I've been gaming since I was 5 years old. I'm 32 years old. I've played every system you could think of and some you probably couldn't think of. For the past 27 years I've seen so many different changes. Some great, some not so much.
The one change that kills me the most is the community. I agree that there are mistakes and problems with Destiny. But the way I've seen some of you guys (or girls) post or talk about Bungie/Activision is just outrageous.
But it's not just in forums. The way some of you act and speak online is seriously disturbing. If you want to call me old and troll and make fun of me go ahead. I know it's going to happen. I don't care.
But if my parents knew that I talked and acted the way some of you do they would beat the piss out of me on principle alone. And the thing is I would let them.
Rome wasn't built in a day. If you couldn't tell in Beta that this game wasn't going to be perfect then you aren't much of a gamer anyway.
Quit the cussing. Grow up. And actually think of some constructive criticism.
Edit 1: I'm not saying that you don't have a reason to be upset. And I'm not saying you shouldn't voice your opinion on here. Feel free to say what you want. Say whatever you want about me. It doesn't bother me. I'm not going to get mad or hate anyone for what you have to say. I'm just appalled at the way the gaming community has changed. Some of you say i need to get with the times and get used. Well DLC is the times now. So get used to it.
Oh yeah and I know Destiny isn't Rome. It was a freaking metaphor.

3 AntwortenBearbeitet von R0BI985: 10/18/2014 7:55:02 PMCompletely Agree with the original poster. I am 29 so I guess maybe being around 30 gives you a different outlook. I have played computer games since I played the original Elite on the BBC B, I couldn't of dreamed of anything like Destiny then, a game where I could play with my friend who lives down the road. I guess compared to some games like say Mass Effect the story is a bit lacking, but hopefully this will be built upon. I think if Bungie/Activision wants this game to have longevity its going to need to fill a bit more in, and see this very much as a beginning. Gaming has changed, like anything that becomes popular it creates an underclass of people that become Elitist and feel they are entitled to things. Pity im on PS4 as id like to do some strikes/pvp with some more sensible people like the OP. My only frustration is the difficulty to raid when I don't know many people and my clan are all great people but mostly US based when I'm in the UK. I would love a good way to meet reasonable people to raid, but I haven't completed it yet so its hard trying to find someone to take you on (most people want people that have done it!)

I'm embarrassed for you.

Uh firstly Someone wrote brilliant letter which is very sensible and very well written (link here http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/74210271/0/0/1) He also provides a link to an Index of threads he has made I think Deej wrote grow up because this was a slightly too aggressive post Anyway soon I'm going to write a Destiny before DLC review as inspired by the link above

Bearbeitet von Accipiter: 10/21/2014 1:57:30 PMThere has been plenty of constructive criticism on these forums. You just have to dig. Here's mine for example: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/70224852/0/0 Also, don't defend Bungie on this game, if you're saying you're 32 years old...then you must have played other games that were far superior than this. You know this is a bad game. The only thing that is saving it is the FPS control like Halo and the beautiful assets. However without a decent story, it's all for nothing. I can only hope The Division is better than this. Speaking of criticism, did you ever hear the story behind Silicon Knights and their 'Too Human' game? Destiny reminds me of that.

6 AntwortenBearbeitet von poppy: 10/20/2014 10:45:32 PMPeople only act this way because they have the means to. Back in the day, we weren't able to talk or play w/ other people online, or even had forums to discuss the game. It's just how it is, people are mean online because they don't have to deal w/ face-to-face. I would love to play Destiny w/ others but I'm a little taken aback by the community as well. I'm 25 and a girl, I don't want to hear little kids cursing in my ear, so I just play by myself, and end up missing out on a few things :/

2 AntwortenBungievision deserve endless amounts of criticism for this game. If you have gamed as long as you say you have then you should know how far the gaming industry has fallen. It's to the point where we have to buy multiple DLC's just to feel like we have a complete game. Having to purchase DLC just to understand the original retail games story is bull shit. I am done with Destiny and I am so glad I didn't buy the season pass. The whole "we're still working on the DLC" is complete damage control. This game has been in the works for 5 years, and all of this has been planned for some time.

I agree with you to a point. The vulgar and abusive commentary directed at the developers and posters on the forums is uncalled for and uncivilized behavior. But, the language used and some of the abuse heaped onto you in the chat in game-play is something you'll need to learn and cope with. Parenting definitely isn't what it used to be. But, I can be just as bad and sometimes the worst one. I've been a cop for 20 years so I game to let off stress. I have my social settings so that only friends can chat with me in mixed lobbies. My friends and I troll each other mercilessly and we try and be careful not to expose other people to it. But, it would be nice if some parents took the time to check the ratings on game titles. I shouldn't have to worry about some little kid getting into the lobby. So, I don't. If somebody gets on and they sound like they're ten or whatever I just mute them and ask them to mute me. makes life easier.

9 AntwortenI'm 42 and I love this game. Yeah it wasn't everything I wanted it to be but what game ever is? I started gaming on Atari 2600. Pong was awesome! Anyway, I have no doubt that there will be improvements. I will be here the whole way sucking up every piece of new content. I think the biggest thing that the forum critics are missing is the fact that there is far more good than bad in the game. That and the fact that the developer are usually at war with the execs who want to push the game out as fast as possible setting impossible deadlines and causing many changes to be made along the way. For me the biggest letdown was PvP. In my 38 years of gaming and my 2 decades of playing shooters, I can say I have had enough of deathmatch, control, capture the flag, FFA. Given the multiple factions, there was so much in the way of meaningful PvP that could have integrated seamlessly into the game world as opposed to a separate, stand-alone entity like it is now. Using Shadowbane and Planetside as examples, one can see that there was a much richer direction they could have gone. As it is now. I feel like it is two games: Halo FPS and Destiny MMORPG. That being said, I think it was more of a marketing decision in order to reach a wider market. Mass appeal and all, but history has shown that by trying to mix the mouth-breathing, wannabe alpha-gamer, stat-mongers with the carebear, farming, "let's hold hands", MMORPG crowd, there will always be friction. It's like asking hardcore republicans and democrats to work together to solve a problem. So I understand why there was such a stark contrast between the two elements of the game. The other area I would like to see improvement is Patrols. They are too generic and other than sucking up rep they have little relevance unless you have a bounty for them. I'd like to see the chance for legendary patrol missions that may pop up in the same way exotic bounties pop-up except that they are acquire right at the mission beacon. These special missions can lead to legendary (not exotic) gear and/or ascendant materials and this would help out the lone wolf who plays mostly solo. Last thing, add a raid board to Tower so players can put their name up on it then go out on farm, patrol, strike, or crucible until they get a full group. This beats standing in the Tower sending out random invites or waiting for people to invite you. I have buddies I play with from time to time and they are cool guys but we are not always on at the same time so it is nice to know that I have a tool to pick up a group when they are not on. Other than those criticisms, I enjoy the game and look forward to seeing how it evolves.

Bearbeitet von DoggyDaddyX: 10/18/2014 3:35:08 AMAnother 40+ gamer here. Destiny > Pong. That is all. But Destiny may not be better than 2600 Adventure. Unless there is a shiny Warren Robinett room that you can combine a magnet, a bat and a hallowed knight.

This forum is lacking moderation is the problem. I can't leave any constructive feedback without having it quickly burred under all the spam of complaining and i don't really bother to come here often because of that. I'm sure if Bungie hired more moderators and get some order going on here, we could actually have some normal discussion about the game and constructive feedback.

1 AntwortenI totally agree with the OP, most people talk crap online because of the anonymous mask they can hide behind and 99% of them wouldn't dare to act or talk this way in RL, trust me I have met some from various guilds/clans and they wouldn't say boo to a goose lol I am 43 and have been gaming since 1982, and also sometimes shocked @ how come people can be disrespectful to each other and game developers. As gamers we have never had it so good, games look and play better than ever and it's gonna keep getting better and better and gamers should appreciate this :)

Yayyyyyy more complaining about complaining about a game that requires negative feedback from a community because the game is mostly negative!
-
But the greater gaming community is no different than any community. Sure, back in the 80/90s gaming was a lot more niche' and the communities were much smaller and a lot cooler to be apart of, those were kinda our pre-mainstream days. Just like before a big band breaks, everyone says they were "better" before they "sold out". Then we experienced this massive growth where gaming went from being this nerdy hobby to essentially another media format on par with music/television/movies. So now the community is incredibly large and we've got players from every edge of existence in our ranks. Essentially Godwin's Law is now in effect aka "Anonymous Decay". There is no community of this type that is not decaying over time. So while I agree that things are lamer now, what else could happen? That's like saying, well I'm ashamed to be a Roman in AD 37 because Rome was wayyyy better previously. Or I'm ashamed to be an American in 2014 because the 70s were our golden age. Everything is constantly decaying or worsening over time until it eventually dies off. It's just the way we evolve and develop as organisms, its nothing unique to gaming and there is absolutely nothing anyone can do to stop simple Darwinian Evolution at work. Welcome to reality, yes it fcking sucks.
