He did everything the congress told him to, nothing more. The emancipation proclamation was made to piss off the south, not to strive towards civil equality.

It was the opposite, he was an imperial president when he needed to be. My advice is read more on Lincoln. Shelby Foote regarded him as be of the two geniuses to come out in that war. He was the only with the conviction and fortitude to prosecute that war, free the slaves for geopolitical, humanitarian, and military reasons.

Not the North, Maryland. That state didn't need to be targeted to degrade its infrastructure. The were freed later in the war, so that point becomes moot.
