OP updated to better explain meaning of thread:
READ: Let's get something straight. I am vying for the rights of the consumer. This has nothing to do with your enjoyment of the game. The game was launched with a severe lack of content relative to what was alluded to at pre-launch. Instead of either delaying the game to allow time to finish the content that has already been started or adding in the full content for free, they're charging extra and labeling it DLC. If consumers continue to support this producers who put out unfulfilled games then add DLC that should've already been in the game after, this will become the norm. There are only negative consequences for consumers possible from this outcome.
Let me elaborate on the main point of this thread: helping consumers. More a more recently developers are pushing out half-assed products that need DLC to fill what they lack.
For example: Destiny. Pre-launch, we were promised a huge scope, excessive customizations and huge landscapes. What we actually received paled in comparison. Compared to what was alluded to pre-launch, the retail game severely lacks content.
Now, players are find areas inside the disc game that are locked. Sure, some of them a simply polished textures, but others are nearly refined besides enemies and other variables. Yet, the fact remains that we are not able to access the entire game without paying extra money.
By entire game, I'm implying what was alluded to before and even after launch. Presently, we are forced to wait for purchaseable downloadable content to truly complete what was supposed to be GOTY.
I don't know about you, but this is an attemp to take complete control over the consumer.
Products nowadays are becoming less and less refined than those of the past due to consumer ignorance. Consumers ignore the fact that producers are taking direct advantage over then for easy money.
This is causing a loss in both quality and quantity that should be expected from a $60 AAA title.
By allowing this to continue, all consumers will ultimately suffer. When producers see no reason to put that extra time and care into their game, as a large amount of ignorant consumers will still purchase then, we will be left with half-finished games that you'll need to pay above and beyond the price of $60 to fully take advantage if what you should've had available to you at launch.
Here, we are talking about principles. Producers should feel obligated to delivery quality content to consumers. They shouldn't be allowed to take advantage of consumers by making them pay for more than just the disc to fully enjoy what the game has to offer.
EDIT: How does the game feel complete to anyone? Bungie is practically penny-pinching consumers' money to finish off the game, while all the while they go around randomly nerfing things and continually sticking to the repetitive quality of the game. They make empty-statements and promises that end up in no significant change to the way the game is. Buying the DLC just gives the company further reason to continue this action, as they'll only see the profits that can come from such an activity.
Obviously, as I've stated in response to a number of comments, I realize there can't be a change overnight. But, truly, the way Bungie and Activision are handling their new title is nothing to support.
EDIT 2:It seems many have misinterpreted the meaning behind this thread. I'm not asking developers to make the game I want, and I'm certainly not trying to act entitled.
What I am doing, however, is hoping consumers will start making more educated decisions. That they will stop throwing out money to penny-pinchers, such as at EA and Activision, and instead actively support positive changes in the industry.
This shift, though gradual, could eventually add up. And I know I'm speaking to a limited audience, and that nothing significant will occur spontaneously, nor over the next few years. But there still remains the principle that consumers play a large role, whether they choose to accept it or not, in the direction in which the industry is headed.

5 AntwortenBearbeitet von Gnoizic: 10/7/2014 9:07:25 PMI was gonna say "call me an idiot," but then I saw that you believe that the DLC content is all already on the disc. I guarantee you that there were chunks of the upcoming DLC in wireframes when the game launched. Were there areas that are already in place on some maps? Yeah, some. But the content wasn't done at launch. Edit: Guess I got out of this on your edit anyway. Pre-ordered the DLC for a bargain. Got the whole limited edition for $75.

4 AntwortenCan you please explain how "All of the DLC" is already finished and on disc? I really hope you understand how ridiculous you sound when you spout information like this with absolutely no proof to back it up. If you're referring to the "finished" locations like the Serpham Vault and The Terminus that have been found on disc those areas are far from finished. Playing video games does not make you an expert on game development. Seeing a textured Environment doesn't mean that space is playable or ready to be showcased. Objectives and missions have to be designed in the space, AI must be pathed, Kill volumes and containment added, and so much more. Seeing a finished room doesn't mean it's finished and Bungie is stealing from you. Take off the tin-foil hat and think a little more before you spout nonsense like this.

I totally agree. But it's too hard to stop people. When they tell you what a game will be you get excited, buy it, then it's not what they said so you want the game to be more and they release DLC to complete the game. DLC should NEVER complete a game, DLC should always add to the already complete game.

1 AntwortenOh shut up please... Let me set you straight on something... You don't own the game, your $60 only bought you the right to play the game. The power of the consumer is to not buy a product. Not bitch until they custom make it to your needs and screw everybody else's... Quit acting like you were required to buy the game and were let down. You chose to buy it and if you don't like it, you wasted your money. Learn to spend it better... As far as your supposed "cut content"... 1 FORMER employee acting butt hurt because the decision was made to change the game, is not reliable intel. This happens in a business, for whatever reason. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad but I'll guarantee since you don't have a controlling interest in Bungie or Activision you don't know enough. Please step down from your soap box with your false claims of being there for the consumer, because you're not. You're here because you have a problem and are only trying to start a faction, oppose other factions and create chaos and segregation... Go find something you enjoy, and realize, the consumer, will never be anything more than what they are until they quit buying junk and unneeded crap. I don't see that happening, so just learn to spend your money more wisely, oh and a business will try and get you to buy, wether you like/want/ or need it. They're a business and their job is to sell stuff... Luck to you...

Bearbeitet von Mr Pontiac421HO: 10/8/2014 11:28:01 PMMany of you act as if this is something new that game manufactures do. I beta tested Motor City Online, by EA, back in 2001. At the end of the beta test they released all of the available content for the game so we could play with all of the cars and parts available. Guess what happened when the game went live, only a small percentage of the game was available to play. After having access to the entire game in beta I and many other players were angry that they were holding out on content until they gradually began to release it to us. We also had to pay a $10 monthly fee to play the game. I do not agree with this practice, but all I can say is stop whinning about it and acting like this just happened with Destiny. It has been going on for quite some time.

6 Antworten..... Take a axe. Now cut your own head off. This is what you are doing to Destiny because you don't seem to understand the lose/lose nature we're in right now. You say to vote with your wallets and hurt the industry by not paying a cent until the practice of DLC on launch stops. Guess what? Marketing doesn't see it that way. Your failure to put money in a company's pocket looks like this to them. "I don't like this IP at all. This concept is not what I want. I would rather spend my money on something else." You're not saying, "This is an ultimatum. Give me what I want or no money." When Marketing hears the former, they will take their research and go look for where you are putting your money. "Oh look! Research shows he's putting his money in COD where the game has had little to no changes to anything. Investors! Set up camp here and start pumping the well again!" In plain English. When you don't support a game that has made radical changes just because you didn't like a certain thing, you cause the evolution of the medium to grind to a halt. You demand with your money the same stale concept year after year because that's where the money is going. You as the consumer have the power in this case. Investors, especially in today's economy, are very skittish. If they don't see money coming out of something, they won't put money in and will think of hairbrained schemes such as DLC on release in order to "protect" their investment. Until they know it's a very safe investment, we are tightrope walking. This line of thinking you have outlined in your OP is a double edged sword. You do this, you hurt yourself because you're telling the industry that you don't support new things and they need to stick to the tried and true. Once investors get over their fear of losing money, they'll be more likely to listen to you and your complaints of toxic business practices. You want truly diabolical? Let the investors think they're doing well. Then start cutting off their funding. When they start asking what's going on, flood their in-boxes with these complaints.

10 AntwortenReality check on the cost of entertainment. The game cost $60 and the DLC was $40, for a total of $100. My last evening out (me, wife & 3 kids) we went to a movie and it cost me $107 over a three hour period. Destiny is a bargain. Even a mediocre game that provides at least a few hours of entertainment is a pretty good value. People complaining about how little they got for $60 should pay some bills for awhile, it might change your perspective.

They left us wanting more. In business, that's considered a good thing.

My thoughts upon reading that title: screw that

Cry me a river

6 AntwortenYou are not entitled to everything that comes on the disc. Fact. You did not pay for the disc. You did not pay for the packaging of the disc either. You paid for a license to play the software as is, as designed by the developer and publisher. I don't like that the game lacks content myself, but for gods sake quit crying and make better informed purchases in the future, and don't jump on hype trains. /thread

I tender my apology to the consumer base: "Sorry, consumer base."
-
I am a customer and i wont buy any Dlc. I played Halo from '02 to '14, but with Destiny, i lost my faith into Bungie. Skyrim is indeed a good example to wake up those people saying Destiny has no lack of content. Im sad to see that people stopped to take a break inbetween to overthink their actions.
-
5 AntwortenThis is why bungie will never be better than Bethesda. Skyrim for $60 had 20x more content than destiny. If it would of had mp I would still be playing skyrim to this day.
-
Edited the OP to address other arguments.
-
2 AntwortenMan give me your info I'm going to buy you the DLC
-
If you don't like the way the game is return it and stop spewing your shit into the ears of people that actually enjoy the game. Go spend your $60 on a game that gives you a days worth of fun. I think destiny has plenty of things to do. Ffxiv's end game content was 3 boss fights 2 dungeons and a raid. It's the way games like mmos start and then they build off of it
-
I think people are just upset and wish there was more content. People pay 60 dollars for games that have a 8 to 12 hour run through and don't complain. I think they did a fantastic job and I hope they continue on improving this game. My only gripe is I wish they would open up communications within the game itself.
-
5 AntwortenYou have played this game for more than 75 hours according to your profile. 75 hours for a 60 dollar game is in no way a "lack of content." I payed 60 dollars for Shadow of Mordor and almost finished it in a few hours. I love both games, but destiny certainly doesn't have a "lack of content." I agree with you on DLC though. I hate having to pay even more money for any game I play. However, the game in it's current state has flaws, but lack of content isn't one of them.
-
5 AntwortenDue to inflation, AAA games should be $70+ by now, but they aren't. While the lock out content is complete bogus, publishers have to make money just like any other business.
-
Imagine all the dlc's will not "complete" your game but add more of the same missions, strikes and raids. Perhaps destiny will never be complete for you. But perhaps it's already complete for others (not including me though)
