OP updated to better explain meaning of thread:
READ: Let's get something straight. I am vying for the rights of the consumer. This has nothing to do with your enjoyment of the game. The game was launched with a severe lack of content relative to what was alluded to at pre-launch. Instead of either delaying the game to allow time to finish the content that has already been started or adding in the full content for free, they're charging extra and labeling it DLC. If consumers continue to support this producers who put out unfulfilled games then add DLC that should've already been in the game after, this will become the norm. There are only negative consequences for consumers possible from this outcome.
Let me elaborate on the main point of this thread: helping consumers. More a more recently developers are pushing out half-assed products that need DLC to fill what they lack.
For example: Destiny. Pre-launch, we were promised a huge scope, excessive customizations and huge landscapes. What we actually received paled in comparison. Compared to what was alluded to pre-launch, the retail game severely lacks content.
Now, players are find areas inside the disc game that are locked. Sure, some of them a simply polished textures, but others are nearly refined besides enemies and other variables. Yet, the fact remains that we are not able to access the entire game without paying extra money.
By entire game, I'm implying what was alluded to before and even after launch. Presently, we are forced to wait for purchaseable downloadable content to truly complete what was supposed to be GOTY.
I don't know about you, but this is an attemp to take complete control over the consumer.
Products nowadays are becoming less and less refined than those of the past due to consumer ignorance. Consumers ignore the fact that producers are taking direct advantage over then for easy money.
This is causing a loss in both quality and quantity that should be expected from a $60 AAA title.
By allowing this to continue, all consumers will ultimately suffer. When producers see no reason to put that extra time and care into their game, as a large amount of ignorant consumers will still purchase then, we will be left with half-finished games that you'll need to pay above and beyond the price of $60 to fully take advantage if what you should've had available to you at launch.
Here, we are talking about principles. Producers should feel obligated to delivery quality content to consumers. They shouldn't be allowed to take advantage of consumers by making them pay for more than just the disc to fully enjoy what the game has to offer.
EDIT: How does the game feel complete to anyone? Bungie is practically penny-pinching consumers' money to finish off the game, while all the while they go around randomly nerfing things and continually sticking to the repetitive quality of the game. They make empty-statements and promises that end up in no significant change to the way the game is. Buying the DLC just gives the company further reason to continue this action, as they'll only see the profits that can come from such an activity.
Obviously, as I've stated in response to a number of comments, I realize there can't be a change overnight. But, truly, the way Bungie and Activision are handling their new title is nothing to support.
EDIT 2:It seems many have misinterpreted the meaning behind this thread. I'm not asking developers to make the game I want, and I'm certainly not trying to act entitled.
What I am doing, however, is hoping consumers will start making more educated decisions. That they will stop throwing out money to penny-pinchers, such as at EA and Activision, and instead actively support positive changes in the industry.
This shift, though gradual, could eventually add up. And I know I'm speaking to a limited audience, and that nothing significant will occur spontaneously, nor over the next few years. But there still remains the principle that consumers play a large role, whether they choose to accept it or not, in the direction in which the industry is headed.

1 AntwortenBearbeitet von Death Essence: 10/9/2014 2:52:11 PMI don't agree. This game is awesome. I'm at less than a dollar an hour on entertainment cost and that's even with the $89.99 pre-order price that includes the DLC. And the DLC hasn't been released yet! This is tremendous value. It's a fun and addicting game and very polished. I wish I could buy even more stuff to support them. Maybe I'll buy a Destiny shirt from the store.

30 AntwortenSo let me get this straight. You have put SEVENTY EIGHT HOURS into this "half a game with no content". SEVENTY EIGHT. What the HELL have you been doing for 78 hours if there is so little to do in the game? It doesn't matter how much money they put into the game in development. All games get set at the same max price point of $60 (excluding "special" editions). That means Destiny, which had a supposed budget of $500 million, can only sell their game at the same price as all those real half assed games based off the hottest new movie thats out. That means they have to both a) sell a crap ton of games to cover that budget and b)spend some of that budget on content to be released in the future, so they can sell that to the consumer too, again to cover that budget. They spend a lot of money and time building those expansions. Why should they give them to you for free? Do you do your job for free or do you expect to be paid? What about if you have to do extra work and stay late for your job do you not expect to be paid for all that work? If they weren't going to be able to sell the DLCs, they just flat out wouldn't have worked on them. They wouldn't have just magically done them for free just to make you happy. They would have cut it anyway somewhere in development and reduced their budget so they have less debt to hopefully get back in game sales. Instead of a $500 million budget, it probably coulda been dropped down to $300 million. Much easier to break even when your expenses are 60% huh? Also, you ever stop to think about how game prices haven't changed in the last decade? Even going to a new console, which has just about always had a decent price increase, the price stayed at $60. Dunno about you, but I know in just about everything else I buy, not much has kept their price the same for a decade. Thats the biggest reason you see more and more DLC. So that Guy A can still be happy and spend his bare minimum $60 on the game and not see a price increase, but Guy B that really loves the game can go ahead and spend $90 or whatever and get all that extra content because he likes the game and feels its worth it. Thats why almost every single game you see these days has SOME sort of DLC. I can't even think of the last game I bought that didn't have any. Why is it such a big deal that Bungie thought ahead of time and starting working on the DLC before the game was released? You think CoD or any other big name game hasn't been working on their DLC long before the game came out? The only difference between starting it ahead of time and starting it after its released is it gets to the customer quicker. Again, since most people can't seem to grasp this, THEY WOULDN'T HAVE JUST KEPT IT IN THE GAME. They didn't just go through a month before release and say "well lets cut out this and this and that and we'll release it as DLC". They knew the entire time what they were working on was for DLC, if DLC wasn't a thing, they just flat out wouldn't have been working on it. Why spend extra time and resources on something that you won't get any returns out of?

Do you like it you filthy consumer base? Do you like it when I hurt you? Aww yeah I'm buying the expansion pass right now... You love it you slag... Stop crying.
-
I, for one, am kind of happy they left this content for DLC. People have been giving Bungie a LOT of feedback on the current state of the game. This gives them a chance to make things better before they release the expansions. My main hope is that they do something to improve Destiny's story and how it is told. The main narrative is so sparse but has a ton of potential. Fingers crossed!

8 AntwortenSo you are able to get 3+ days played out of a game that is as you say "lacking in content"? That's interesting....
-
11 AntwortenTL;DR you have 77 hours played for 60 bucks. that's rounded up to 86 cents an hour for entertainment. that's more time than i played Skyrim.
-
Well if your speaking for the consumer, you can't be biased, and many many people are loving and enjoying the game, and I will continue to purchase future products as long as I'm having fun.

1 AntwortenBearbeitet von perdomo1479: 10/9/2014 2:50:23 PMthank you for visiting bungie.net. ive played and enjoyed this broken game more than any other game i can remember if you do the math one dollar per gameplay hour ,....im negative 47 BUCKS.... so yes i def want the dlc.

I am? Damn, I feel like a terrible person now 'goes right back to playing Destiny, not giving a -blam!-'

4 AntwortenOk fine. I admit it. I'm an idiot. I was an idiot for buying all the H3 DLC. I've always been an idiot. I'm an idiot who plays only a select few beloved games, and gets really good at them. I'm an idiot for deciding that 10-100 extra dollars for all the content there is to offer is worthwhile for me. I'm an idiot for spending money on a console in the first place. I mean, they just keep releasing more games. Shouldn't I have every game that's ever been made after I bought my first console? Also I'm an idiot because I don't start my forum post off by calling a large number of people idiots. So be it. Whoa is me.

1 Antworten
You're hurting the consumer base if you buy Destiny DLC
Take that consumer base! This has been the funnest attack on consumerism ever! All your consumer base are belong to us!

7 AntwortenThere's no discussion to be had. You've already made up your mind that it's idiocy if you purchase future DLC. Conversely, others have made up their minds that it's not idiocy to purchase future DLC. Making a declaration does not make something factual. The manner in which you've decided to present your opinion leaves only two choices: idiot or not idiot. The reality is that it's more complex and subjective than that. Some people will not purchase DLC and some people will. The reasons why and why not are varied and based on very personal opinions. A video game is much more immersive than most forms of entertainment and therefore more likely to cause heated reactions to opinions that differ from the ones a person forms based on their own experiences. Calling people idiots cause they choose to spend their money on a video game sounds condescending and I'd hope no son or daughter of mine would treat another individual that way. But to each their own I suppose.

You got some bad intel, son. You straight up do not know what you're talking about. Paticularly this gem:
Literally all of the DLC for Destiny is already made and on the disc
There's a lot of places in Destiny intentionally closed off to us so that the devs can someday expand the game and give us even more playable areas. This has been explained to death. What matters is whether or not they have delivered $60 worth of entertainment. Seeing as how this is the biggest game Bungie has ever made and I paid the same amount for a much smaller, uglier, clunkier Bungie game around 15 years ago you could definitely say I'm satisfied. I look forward to purchasing even more content. Now you may disagree, and that's all fine and good, but to call people names for having a difference in opinion is petty and displays quite the lack of character on your part. I won't hold you to the fire for calling me an idiot, though. I understand that some people are just generally unhappy folk and can't help but to project that unhappiness outwards. Especially when there are no consequences thanks to the anonymity of the internet. I suppose that's why your name calling can never truly offend--and if that's the case you may as well just be civil. You're bound to get better results.
-
I don't know what your talking about got this game since day 1 and I'm still enjoying it until now and I bought dlc just like everyone else
-
Too long, didn't read. Buying dlc anyway because I like the game. You say we will hurt the consumer base by buying the dlc, but watch as all your friends still buy it and have fun, while you sit around at lvl 30 and bitch. Soon enough you'll buy it due to your friends pressuring you. Don't lie to yourself.
-
to the consumer base: "shhhh the more you struggle the more its gonna hurt"
-
Don't worry I got your back, I won't being buying both dlc for this game
-
God man, you really need to get a life.
-
tl;dr I will buy the DLC because I really like Destiny
-
In regard to the dlc content, no one can categorically state whether any content has been held back or if it's simply organised project planning. I enjoy the game, I'm happy to pay for the dlc. If you are unhappy and dislike the game, don't buy the dlc. Simple.
-
It's a good argument, but what if a lot of the locked areas are going to e expanded through free dlc? Nobody has said if it will all be paid for or some free
-
You've shaped this topic up nicely, you have my respect. I'll still buy the DLC, because I know I'll enjoy it, but your argument is perfectly rational and worth Bungie looking in to.

Im not sure you are entirely correct. While the stories are still open to interpretation im not sure there is a lack of content. I have 5 days played so far and only that many because ive been off of work with a back injury over the past week... Now while some people are bored because they dont want to start new characters because they dont see that as expanding... Well the only other fps games that have taken more of peoples times are cod and battle field and games of that sort which they play less content on average than we do on destiny... So that point is redundant. There is a deeper level of customization to the game than people realize based on if you like more supers/nades/punches, on guns, and exotics to add just a little more flavour. And while the landscapes arent as vast as wow pr halo they are still big and beautiful.. Now since this is a mass effect*callofduty cross over ( more or less) lets take a look at the mass effect games. For the 180 bucks i spent on all three games i had maybe 6 days played between all of them!? 2 classes each game one good one bad..... Again 5 days or so played on destiny (still playing) and im at 60ish bucks...remeber inflation!? Its a real thing I think if you want more content and bang for your buck you need a true mmo. Not a fps*rpg retarded fish frog baby(refer to south park). Im sorry but with the amount of time it takes the average to even hit 29 makes more content a little daunting and they would have had a higher level cap. Which is coming with one of the dlcs. Which now giving people even more to do for longer. So maybe nerd ragers will e quiet for a week before they over play the game again

2 AntwortenIt's an MMO dude. Have you played World of Warcraft (or heard of it)? It was the same way before they released the actual content to make the game what it is today. Just be patient (even if you don't want the crap, I'm sure some hacker will make it free eventually) and just wait and see if the DLC is any good. If not, then be the bigger man and just sell the game already.
