Dear Bungie,
With Destiny's launch, there has been a tumultuous storm of opinions and thoughts flying around across the internet. Everybody seems to have an opinion, more often than not a complaint, or an idea of what needs to happen. Arguably poor review scores from many publications feed an ever increasing loop of groupthink and lead to unfair conclusions and accusations about what, from a real perspective, has the potential to turn into a masterpiece.
With the forums ablaze with topics lambasting the game you've made, I wouldn't be surprised if, on your part, there is at the least confusion, at most dismay at the exact nature of the friction. I've read the complaints. However, I feel very strongly that everything in Destiny has been meticulously thought out, planned, and implemented. In simpler terms, there is nothing about this game that doesn't feel intentional. It feels to me that every aspect of Destiny as it exists now aligns with your vision, and that you have made the game exactly as you wanted to make it.
Those of us who have long time experience with similar games, and really want to see the industry evolve, recognize that Destiny could very well be the beginning of a masterpiece, a revolution in how games are experienced and how stories are told. We play it religiously, and we trust you to develop its universe into something really special. It already has established itself as one of the most memorable gaming experiences I've had, and I'm sure that rings true for those like me.
But the adherence to your vision is the cornerstone of positivity for this experience. Destiny is going to be a long road, and vocal members of the community that don't truly grasp Destiny's scope and potential will continue to complain. Likely, it will be relentless. I've already seen people go from complaining that they had too easy of a time getting to the level cap, to complaining that the raids are too hard over 3 DAYS. In fact, Destiny seems to have had 3 years worth of complaining cycles crammed into the 1 week it has been available.
We have our journey over Destiny's lifetime, and you, Bungie, have yours. I urge you, remember this: You must unflinchingly adhere to your vision. If anything can be said about the game industry, particularly in MMO type games, it's that "The Customer is Usually Wrong". You can't please everyone, and large scale change will rarely please most. But if every game released is going to strive only to please the most customers, we end up with bland and repetitive titles that rarely venture outside of the status quo.
To you I say that you will need to heed this forum's tagline more than any of the users: Be Brave. Don't buckle to the complaints, and don't stray from making what you see because of the outcry of those who don't agree on its beauty.
Sincerely,
A Fan.

1 AntwortenExtremely well put. I completely agree, and urge Bungie, and those of us who support what they are doing, to remember that the people who are least satisfied with Destiny are always going to be the most outspoken. Stay the course Bungie, job well done.

The PvP is still straight up garbage at the time of any review so far.

Hear Hear! anyone that thinks that Destiny is bad, obviously haven't played the game. logged in about 40 hr and still can't stop playing. best game ever

Will Everyone please stop with this whole its perfect/ it sucks war thing. Yes the game is lacking in some qualities like crafting, but at the same time I believe Bungie said they didn't think of this game as actually an MMO. It is realistically a halo like RPG with some MMO qualities to it. As for the servers EVERY GAME HAS THESE PROBLEMS. It is a -blam!-ing week old and you are complaining about no new public events, bugs, disconnects, farming, ect. The game is still new. I fully expect them to patch some of the farming methods as well as the price of buying items/ the required points to buy items. I don't think people realize how long it can take to create new worlds/maps. Instead of constantly complaining about how you are bored because you marathon the shit out of it take a minute grab a few friends play some strikes, start a new character, have some fun. Bungie will give us bug fixes, patches, and new content if we wait patiently for them to give it to us. Sure we may have to remind them sometimes not to forget about us but there is no reason to be crying and screaming like 6 year olds.

I am just level 23 and my last hope was that higher levels would unlock awesome assassinations that would break the painfully dated multiplayer crucible. The PvP is not going to keep anyone coming back, Reach, halo 4 is still years ahead of this (battlefield too) and role playing like farming for gear "just to say you have it" is frustrating and an insult to serious gamers that played the hell out of halo 1 and thereafter. The whole game feels like farming, my team mates only value is to add more bullets to the bullet sponge and provide a spawn beacon.... Its just like standing outside a cave shooting them as they spawn.... only its and end guy... same. I am grateful to know that there is no door opening, no magical ability that moves us beyond what I am experiencing, no shattering innovation that will awe and shock us all... I am not going to waste my time anymore playing this crap. I am feeling like I am still playing the BETA to earn the real game but it NEVER comes... I am glad alot of kids like this game, but serious first person shooter fans will disappear as soon as Hardline comes, serious RPG'ers are gone, next skyrim... cuz really, its just farming for digital uselessness.

Well said, i agree with all of what you said. I allso felt that the game is just the basic ground work for a massive adventure just waiting to be explored. And i trust bungie to deliver every thing when it is its time. P.S. If they add some kind of a forge mode like halo down the line, i would be so happy.

Bearbeitet von Ronnij91: 9/18/2014 6:44:45 PMBeautiful letter, I couldn't agree more. This game is full of potential and I can't wait to see what the expansions have in store for is. Bungie is doing big things. ^^

You wrote good words, put them words together into good sentences and put them sentences together into good paragraphs. Because of this I would take a bullet straight in the pee hole for you. You for president of Earth. You. (and those magical words you sling)
there is nothing about this game that doesn't feel intentional
Now there's a terrifying thought.

Oh yes I sincerely think that we have seen nothing yet. I think it's only the tip of the Iceberg. Great things are on their way fellow Guardians...

Well said. Completely agree

Bearbeitet von ShadowNinja77: 9/18/2014 6:31:58 PMBeautifully well written. I agree with every word & I hope Bungie knows they're fans will back them on this game.

Very well said, and worth 100% of my support to you and Bungie.

Well said. Keep up the hard work Bungie

This very well wrote, and Destiny is a wonderfully brilliant game. Destiny has landed to a special place in my heart after a week, and as a gamer, not many games have done that lately for me. I only have ten hours in, but I see many, many more in the future. My only question is, where can we go from here?

This is beautiful +1

One of the things I think Bungie got wrong was the lack of proximity comms... especially in the Tower. Calling the Tower a "Social Area" is what is peeing off a lot of the gamers. In fact, they should have made the game proximity comms EVERYWHERE (but with an option to enable or disable). There are times when you need to ask others not to help... For example there is this one bounty that you need to kill three or more in a single special use. So I was waiting until the enemy would bunch together so I could drop a Nova bomb on their head and just as they did... BLAM!... Some git on the other side of the map snipes one of them so when my Nova hit I only killed two. It's times like this where the "public area" is a big fat failure. I would then try and find somewhere else to do the bounty.... this time I got the enemy together and WHAM! someone used a FRICKIN ROCKET... It's times like this when I just wish I could say "Can you please not do that? I'm trying to do a bounty!" But generally, it's those damned snipers that pee me off... You can be going for the kill and them the sniper kills them and ruins your patrol scores or bounty attempt.

Signed. Those complaining are people who are part of the cod generation. A generation of individuals who got everything they wanted just by playing for a few hours. A good portion of loot is gonna be worse than what you currently have. Then comes the Unending grind for raid gear (or legendary set gear in general)

1 AntwortenBearbeitet von D0uBLeKiLLBiLL: 9/18/2014 5:56:26 PMI couldn't have said it better myself. The FPS community has been ruined for me in the past with the release of countless copy/paste titles that adhere to the general whiny nature of game forums. Stick to the plan Bungie. You have a gem here and to stray away from your original vision would disappoint millions. This game has only been available for 9 days and people feel as though the story should be longer when they are playing 12 hours a day or that getting top tier gear should be faster when they are not putting in as many hours as the true grinders. I couldn't be more happy with this game as it is everything and more than what I expected. Praise the Traveler!

Bearbeitet von AHal: 9/18/2014 5:31:54 PM
You must unflinchingly adhere to your vision.
I could not agree more with this statement. It's not about what all the self righteous, entitled feeling people think they should get. It's about what Bungie wants to do for this game. It is their game. And Bungie typically does stay true to their own vision of their games. After all, we remember their saying... "We make games that we want to play." In other words, if you don't like it that's fine you can go play something else, but if we like it we are going to make it in this way and play it because we like to play it. If they feel that anything needs to be patched, they will do it if they believe that it does based on their own, collected, statistical data, not based on forum uprisings. If they made such decisions based on forum complaints we would see large scale changes on a daily basis, and like you said, any one large scale change to a game very rarely pleases most, and you go from one group of angry gamers to another of sad, disappointed fans. That's why, as you said, it is crucial that they Be Brave and stick to their own vision for the game, and those who enjoy it with them will continue to enjoy it in harmony. I don't think we have anything to worry about. Bungie will hold true to their vision of the game and it will continue to evolve and be even more amazing than it already is as time goes on. I have loved every minute of Destiny so far and I can't wait to see what the future holds. And I know that Bungie will deliver. They always do.

1 AntwortenI am completely enjoying the game, but like most games there are some things they need to change. Both minor and major. The following changes are my opinion and are in no particular order. - Cut-scenes... I've watched the same cut-scene countless times, this must be their filler for a load screen, but at this point I'd rather see a black screen with a loading icon in the bottom right corner. - Why do I have to go to Orbit to get anywhere? I should be able to queue for Crucible or a Strike Playlist from the Tower. In fact why can't we travel from Mars to Venus without first having to go to Orbit? - The double RNG, I know it's been mentioned quite a bit. I deal with it but honestly why can't they make a green Engram give a green, a blue gives a blue and a purple gives a purple/exotic? I'd much rather see a blue drop and know I'm getting a blue, than to get a purple and have a blue that I already own come out of it. - A choice of hearing enabled mics. I don't think it would be good to be able to hear anyone around you because it might just turn in to 11 year olds making momma jokes, but if I choose to hear everyone, or if I can request to talk to someone. Overall I enjoy the game but there are some major changes that need to happen in my personal opinion. It's not enough to stop me from playing the game but it sure would be a nice improvement on the game.

5 AntwortenLove the Game. BUT WOULD JUST LIKE TO ACTUALLY PLAY THE DAM THING WITHOUT DISCONNECTS, THERE ARE LITERALLY SCORES OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE THAT CANNOT STAY CONNECTED FOR MORE THAN 2 MIN. Unfortunately, this will soon skew the public opinion of this game if bungie doesn't DO LIKE BLIZZARD and get network support desk or a network engineering team to look at their infrastructure. Our opinions will soon be counted in the masses that wont like this game very much because we simply cannot play it to lend our full support. NO I am not on a college campus, thousands of us with issues are just home users. I for one am on a 70 Meg Fiber Optic network, with a dedicated ONT right into my house. I can statically configure anything to work as needed, without my carrier. Trust me when I tell you, there isnt any amount of overlapping port forwarding and port triggering that can be done to resolve this, unless bungie does it themselves. There are gamers that need their help, I'll keep waiting patiently for another few days, after that then, it's time to call it and be realistic; they did NOT properly prepare to support a dedicated always online game...

I love you

I agree.
