Bungie your lack of RPG knowledge is showing.

First and foremost doing things differently sometimes can cause panic at first then really turn out to be great, or you can just look really dumb and not know what your doing. This is what i see whats going on with Bungie's Destiny right now. I've came from Playstation (never owned a Halo game but or played it) and on playstation you have to admit whether is the PS 1,2, or 3 is the king of RPG's. Im not sure if Japan invented RPG's but they constantly take it to another level almost unmatched by anyone. Don't get me wrong Blizzard is in the Top 3 for RPG's in the world but I'm strictly talking about consoles here. So as I stated before Playstation is RPG heaven and no other consoles come close so i feel like an RPG veteran and i see alot of dumb decision making on Bungies behalf. 1. Fire team size is ridiculously low, this is next gen 3 was cool back in PS1 and PS2 days but we are way past that. And no the 3 Class argument does not apply here, there are not 3 classes there are 3 guardians and there are 9 classes/sub classes. This in itself is very confusing, so a class is a hunter and the sub-class is gunslinger???? So whats a guardian or is the Hunter the class and the guardian??? Either way this is not a good layout in my humble opinion, but back to the fire team 3 is just too low and 4 is industry standard for a co-op experience. Now the raids i like, but 6 being the max with other MMO's being 8 is not cool, the more the marrier. 2. No match making in Raids, WHY???? Did you not have enough time to implemented it or were you trying to be different? Don't you guys understand that some people have jobs and lives and sometimes its hard 2 get a 6 man team. Do you want us to jump in the tower and randomly start inviting people to our fire team and hope they would join?? 3. D PAD being used up only for emotes?? Who thought of this??? There should be one button on the d pad that gives your options for a multitude of emotes not just 4, and the rest of the D pad buttons should be used on useful actions such as summoning your sparrow, or going to orbit, or anything else. You know im right, now i did not say eliminate the emotes just change it to one button with a drop down menu with a bunch of choices. 4.Getting booted out of a mission once its complete. I want to leave the mission when i want to not get a timer when its complete, and i would love to hold down one of the D pad buttons to go straight to orbit. 5. Friendly Fire teams should be able to switch to the same Phase. It's bad enough I have to leave out a friend to do a strike and story mission but why on explore? That makes no sense, Bungie put some damn sense back into your game. 6.PVP gear should not be usable in PVE, you should do a better job of separating the 2. I know lots of players that can't stand PVP and want no part of it but Destiny has a very heavy focus on PVP. So PVP gear should not work in PVE and vice versa. I don't mind PVP but im going to spend 80% of my time in PVE, and you guessed it 20% in PVP. Those are a few changes in my opinion that would make Destiny a better game if you agree or disagree please do it in a orderly fashion.

  • 1- The Fireteam size isn't terrible. Limiting the number of people in a raid or a mission keep it from becoming unintelligible and messy. What would happen if you drop, say, five or eight guardians in a room with one raid boss. Unless they scale the damage and armour for that boss based on how many people are in that room, it will probably lack the challenge and it would become a mess of bullets in every direction. As for the classes. It doesn't hurt to have that party size because it gives you the option of having all classes or a three hunter hit-squad or whatever. I'm not sure who thinks that that is the sole reason that fireteams are that size, but I severely doubt that really plays into it all that much. Still, adding matchmaking to fireteams for story missions wouldn't hurt. Doing them alone isn't bad, and it makes the game challenging, but it takes the social aspect out of the MMO RPG. 2- Was this an issue? Are you talking about story missions or the strikes? Because the strikes had fireteams. It stuck you with two strangers on the opposite side of a small map with a bunch of level 8 enemies. You kick some ass to the entrance and end some dudes. I'm not sure if this was a different thing between systems (doubt it) or you are talking about story missions instead. I agree, it'd be nice to have a story mission with matchmaking as an option. Again, it's a choice. You have your options to run as a lone wolf or be a pack. That was kind of the idea. And as others have said in the comments, look online. Join a clan. Find a group. Faff about in the forums and make some friends. Either that, or yeah, join some people in the tower. I did several times. We got our ass handed to us because we were all painfully under levelled for the strikes, but it's possible. What needs to happen for the tower is probably proximity chat or tags that say something along the lines of "looking for group" or "lfg" like other MMOs. 3- I agree that having the D-pad for emotes is... definitely interesting. But unless there are multiple powers you're supposed to be using at once, which on the Beta, there weren't, I don't really see the problem. Still, dancing to peek around corners or to be that guy in raids and PvP seems far more fun to me. Is it more useful, not really, but it is something that adds something slightly different to gameplay. If keyboard integration is added and you can just use /dance, /sit, /point, and /wave, then cool. Then that would free up the D-pad for other things. But unless they populate it with things, I don't really see the point in complaining about it. 4- As other people have said, "What are you going to do in an empty level?" Yeah, the timer kind of sucks, but it's better than a sudden cutscene or something that breaks the pacing. It also keeps fireteams from being kept up by one a-hole running around when the other two want to get going. That, and golden boxes are always there and you can always run over to those areas in the explore mode. Nothing really changes save for constantly respawning enemies and probably a few less boss encounters. That's how it was with the others, not sure if the short trek and extra gameplay ruins that for you. Also, other RPGs, such as Mass Effect and Dragon Age, just kick you into a cutscene or drop you out of gameplay immediately once you cross a certain point. Like you drop through an invisible wall and BAM! your mission is complete, even if there is loot scattered everywhere.
Not all games are going to be like Borderlands, where you just shoot stuff and then whatever story is meant to be there kind of wraps itself up over a phone call and some text boxes.
5- It goes by the fireteam system. You can drop into the same world and you will see friends or other players running around Old Russia all the time. And use some sense? Well, let's move on to your last piece 6- The reason you have the same weapons in PvE and PvP is because you are pitting your guardian against the others. This isn't Halo, where you can customise your multiplayer character so they look slightly different, but being the same dude with the same guns. Every weapon has a name and some interesting idiosyncrasy that makes it unique. It matches a play style.
For example, I am a fan of snipers, shotguns, and DMRs, so arming myself with those weapons for PvP make me the best I can be. Others like heavy machine guns, auto rifles, and pistols (or whatever), they use those in order to have their own edge.
Having the gear be the same makes it so that the character you play with is always the same. It's not the main character in story mode and some random schlub in the competitive multiplayer. It also makes the game skill based. You bring your best game and they bring theirs. Outside of the Iron Banner, all levels, armour, weapon damage, and ability damage are levelled out so that it is just the player's skill and knowledge that makes them different. And I agree, I won't be spending anywhere near as much time in the PvP, but when I do, I want my guardian to stand tall over those around me. And I want dance on their graves.

      1. The Fireteam size is dependent on the level design they are trying to achieve. I agree that open-world parties should be larger, but Bungie is fluctuating team sizes for Raids and Strikes depending on balance and the structures of engagement. 2. It's not the lack of matchmaking you want to be complaining about, it's the lack of social features. Matchmaking isn't the only system that can get people together, though it is the one that we are most familiar with. Bungie is taking a different social approach to Raids because it is the highest tier of content they have to offer and they want us to be more familiar and cooperative with our teammates. While I don't agree with their approach, I do agree that we need more social features to fill in the hole left by the lack of matchmaking. Anything will do Bungie, anything at all... 3. There are definitely a few inefficient UI issues. 4. They don't want to break immersion by having you wander around. Since the the missions are instanced, you could walk past the final area into the open world without the open-world elements to complement them. This is why they force you out of the mission area: it's their way of saying "please load up the free roam map if you want to explore." 5. I haven't had problems with this, but maybe I'm misunderstanding the problem. 6. PvE gear only matters in certain PvP game modes. For example, in the beta the Iron Banner was the only mode that accounted for gear stats. So all game modes, unless otherwise specified, don't account for gear stats.

Nitpicking here, for #2. I'm half and half on. I can see what bungie is trying to do in terms of making the game more sociable and wanting a dedicated team of sharpshooters to take on the harder content but damn, at the same time all people really want is a option. What if i just hop on and decide, "eh, I'm geared up & decked out so maybe I'll want to try VoG/raiding today".... but i see none of my Destiny friends want to do it.. probably playing PvP or explore , not online or not geared enough....Then what?? What if that was my only opportunity to raid that week? To me, In the grand scale of the world and life, it mostly comes down to choices that we all make. Give people the choice to do or play how we want. People are supporting and paying a pretty penny to play thru all content this first game has to offer. I can see why there shouldn't be a barrier to entry for one of the games finest moments in terms of raiding and securing top gear/exo's (exotics). Don't nerf the raid just because some pickup/mm groups cant handle or clear it. Then that's where bungie or the community should be like "find a dedicated team of 5 to raid with like we encouraged you all to do from the start". Now with that being said there is two ways this could end. Either Bungie sticks to their guns and we all adapt or they fold and give us the option adding mm. Me personally, I feel like bungie is going to keep the current model of raiding and based upon reviews and comments after release, either keep the same model or add in mm by next year or so. Edit: If not matchmaking, at least give us better ways and avenues to communicate to other guardians. Maybe add some sort of chat mechanism for the tower..Allow us to chat alongside folks in PvP and explore/story mode via headset or something along with the option to mute ppl if needed. Right now for what they're trying to do in terms of grouping up. its not fitting together

          • I completely agree with you about the raids. Matchmaking is what made last generation of consoles revolutionary. It feels like PS2 days when the only way to play with people was to have them be available at the instant. It is a completely backwards, counter intuitive idea that is mitigates the experience and even the game as a whole. And no, it is not part of the meta game. If you want to spend an hour assembling a group of complete strangers to do a raid than be my guest. Not many people have that dedication or that time.

          • 3 people is fine. The requirement for socializing to raid is another layer of the meta game. I barely use gestures, don't care. Missions are instances, not sure what else to do in an empty level. Not sure what you mean by phase, if your'e referring to going to orbit to join a fireteam; I agree, that should be improved. Gear spanning all modes is great, less tedium changing out armor constantly.

1 - actually the little we played in beta, a fire team of 3 seemed perfectly balanced. There wasn't a lot of open terrain for you to fight in. I don't know how many times my buddies and I came close to biting it because I'd strafe right, he'd strafe left, and we can't go through each other. How much worse would it be if the levels were more crowded? 2 - if its such a big issue for you to find a fire team or a raid group, look online. There's plenty of forum posts with people posting their ids to help make raid groups. If bungie won't help you do the matchmaking, you'll have to do it yourself. I personally probably won't have that problem...I've got a bunch of people on my friends list with destiny and I trust them all to have my digital back. Regardless, matchmaking is not going to happen in game...so I suggest worst case scenario you pug up on some strikes or explores and adapt. 3+4 - Meh. Not big deals in my honest opinion. I understand where you're coming from, but I can live with/without them either way. I have no strong feelings neither for nor against. 5 - as far as I could tell, you did, as long as there's space in instance. Of course, in the transitional areas were there's only one fire team per instance, no. But one of my buddies actually provided sniper support over 3 maps because he was our 4th man and couldn't join our group. 6th - uh...its pve. Why would you care if they're in PvP gear? If you feel like its overpowered...well, there's no friendly fire. Get your grind on and get better gear. You think its easy getting crucible gear? If anything they're helping you get public events done quicker. Now, if they don't let pve gear into PvP, how is anyone going to compete? Melee attacks and otherwise naked? Come on. Tldr - stop being a hater and guardian up.

-How can a console company that dosent make games be good or bad at making games -Whats confusing about 3 types of guardian classes and subdivisions within those classes that you would call subclasses -whats so wrong with meeting new players or maybe starting a clan with people with similar interests and time schedules -i agree on having more emotes but it was a beta so its probable that they will add more in the full game - waiting a few seconds for a mission to end isnt really that bad -fireteam limit on explore is pretty bad bungie needs to let go of the idea that im gonna go all over the place making new friends in every other match -i dont get why you think gear should be different pve and pvp even if someone cant stand pvp then they just shouldnt do it why does the gear matter? And what is the distinction between pvp gear and pve gear its all the same range

            • nice to see someone not go straight into ripping the game apart, some people do panic about change but its the same with anything & please don't say you're a rpg veteran (it makes you sound obsessive, sorry) 1. Fire team size is ridiculously low; this is true, i would like to see it upto atleast 6, itll help get lower level player up a few levels, plus it means you have a full team for raids, but 6 players are abit to much to control, especially in voice chat :') 2. No match making in Raids; people wont want to drag people that just go afk or something through a raid, mm is something that should be there though but not something they should force you to use. 3. D PAD being used up only for emotes; this is abit dumb, you should be able to assign a couple to the d-pad, but still leave room for a torch. 4.Getting booted out of a mission once its complete; agree'd this is stupid, we should be able to leave in our own time, after all its only 2 button presses to go to orbit from anywhere -.- 5. Friendly Fire teams; no idea what youre going on about in this one :S 6.PVP gear should not be usable in PVE; nope! if youve worked for it you should be able to use it, but the matchmaking should be designed to give you a chance. and a playlist where if you jump in with rubbish gear, you're fair game (give people something to work for, like going to an area youre to low level for in a mmo, you might get a few kills, but you really shouldnt be there...just yet)

Okay this post made me cry a little bit. Lets think before we post things hmm. Are you a game designer of some sort? And why are you talking about Ps4 and their game releases on these forums? Destiny is not just an RPG. It is an open/shared world fps. Allowing PVP gear to be used in PVE allows players who just like PvP to use their gear for their occasional adventures outside of the crucible arena and vice versa. Destiny is an exceptionally made game and only a fool would dispute that based on their experiences on a limited beta. Having no matchmaking for raids is a brilliant idea by bungie. Being a long time mmo fan I have had much experience with games after and before the matchmaking system. Raids are for serious, experienced players who want to reach the highest possible peak in Destiny. Raids are truly challenging and Bungie has stated that they want to keep them challenging. They want people to communicate work together and playing with strangers from all over with loud music playing through their mics can really ruin a raiding experience. Do not forget this is a console game and not a game like rift or world of Warcraft.

                  • 1. The 3 man fireteam is a bit odd, I can agree that it should be 4 player co-op. I'm just curious though, (I'm asking you TC) when was 3 players a thing though? It's always been 2 or 4 in my experience. 2. You are starting to sound a bit rage-y over the subject. #justsaying, but being a bit more polite goes a long way. While having no raid matchmaking is a bad thing, I think it shouldn't be completely with randoms. 2 fireteams of 3 for matchmaking, you go in with a 3 man fireteam and get paired with another. sounds perfectly good considering that Destiny is "supposed" to be a social mmo-like shared world shooter rpg. Two good buddies shouldn't be that hard to find. Personally, as long as raids are as difficult as Reach's firefight limited (on heroic or above) I'll be happy. Despite everyone pretty much being the same (like how it is in Destiny, for the most part), all 4 players had to fill roles, cover certain parts of the map, know when to restock on ammo/ run out and grab a heavy weapon (sniper/rocket/etc), and who to focus on. Firefight LTD was the hardest matchmade mode in Reach. It wasn't brutal (unless you got the 5 white elites, then you pretty much guaranteed game over in most cases). A sense of teamwork and some coordination was required, definitely not as much as WoW raids and whatnot, but it was still there. I just wanna see that kind of coordination and teamwork required in Destiny's raids. 3. more emotes, and assigned to one button, nice idea. down for waypoint, right for emote list (which becomes navigable with the d pad), up for sparrow (still hold the button), and left to signal for help/emote hotkey/chat. Going to orbit should really be left on the touchpad with the ghost. Make leaving early tedious for those kinds of people. If you're in a rush anyway, what's 5 seconds gonna do, kill ya? If your house is burning f*** the game, just escape. 4. I don't understand, any loot you don't pick up before the mission ends should be available at the post master. The point of doing a story mission isn't to explore afterwards, it's for story. Exploration is more or less a separate mode. It's Destiny's campaign. Though it may be given in smalller increments, it should be treated pretty much the same as other shooters. 5. Story and strike is understandable, exploration should be the full fireteam though. 6. There's not much difference in gear. And Destiny is PvE focused, all the good loot will commonly come from PvE, not PvP, where even if you win, have the best score and are leading by a few thousand points, the guy in deadlast has equal chances of getting something. The gear obtained in both modes are equal, actually, you could probably mix and match which legendaries and exotics are in which mode. Also, the chances of getting the good legendary loot and stuff (which will most likely be Iron Banner exclusive) is diminished by the legendary ships you could get too. All the loot I got from PvP I could also get from PvE in the beta.

                    • I agree with everything except i don't care if they have matchmaking for raids. It reminds me of the good old WoW days. And i also don't agree on pve gear in the crucible. In most game modes everything is made even. Only certain events like the iron banner does gear really shine. If i found some extremely epic gear and weapon. I'd damn sure want to take that with me into the crucible.

                      • The main focus to an RPG is the storyline. I couldn't care less, along with millions of other gamers care if it is the best playable game or not. The story is what matters as it should in an RPG. As you clearly said, you've never played halo. Bungie have the ability to create amazing worlds and in depth storylines that an RPG needs. Wether a proper RPG or FPS, they will have the community in expense and wow with Destiny. PvP gear being different to PVE? this isn't wow. It has elements of an mmo but is not one. Small fire teams, again it is not wow, it is not intended to be anything like that. The start of the game is your ghost finding you dead and telling you the darkness is taking over. Where in that does it even come close to saying there is millions of guardians for you to join up with? The small fire team fits the game.

                        • I have to agree on the Fireteam thing. 3 is not enough, not a single person O played with thought it was ok.

                          • It's not an RPG it's a "shared world shooter" with RPG and MMO qualities.

                          • It is an open world shooter with elements and hues from RPG titles and MMORPG titles.

                          • Your post would be great. But destiny isn't in honesty a RPG. At its roots it's a fps first and foremost.
