OK, I'm assuming many of you have seen these two posts: the person who wants to play Destiny with others within the LGBT/Furry community, and the person who wants to play with Christians. Now let me say first this is not going to devolve into a theological or argument about morals. When the guy(or girl) who made his post about playing with other Christians, his thread was torn apart. He, his beliefs, and anyone who sided with him were discriminated and made fun of. He was told countless times that he was wrong and stupid for believing what he did.
Now today there was another post made by a guy(or girl) wishing to play with with those in the LGBT and "furry" communities. This thread, thankfully, was met with nothing but kind words and willingness to play, even by those who were not LGBT.
Why is there a difference between the responses to the Christian post and the LGBT/furry post? Neither was condemning those who didn't think like them, simply asking to play with like-minded people of similar backgrounds, yet one was discriminated and made fun of. Why is this OK? We supposedly live in this generation of tolerance, where everyone's beliefs and lifestyles are to be accepted, so why the intolerance? Everybody should remember the Golden rule, treat others the way you want to be treated.
Ok guys, it's getting a little out of hand. This is not a topic about religion, it is about respecting each other. Remember, just be nice to people. It doesn't cost anything. You're not required to agree with them, but do not belittle or discriminate against them for thinking differently than you do.

I would just like to state that i am christian, and have nothing against someone being homosexual. I do not believe in homosexuality but do not condemn it as some others of my religious group do. I don't approve the hate. If this guy wants to play with christians let him, but if he were intentionialy bashing gays or ANY other racial, ethnic, or religious group, then i would have a problem.

As long as they can shoot straight I don't care about anything else

8 AntwortenI respect your opinion. But I think sexuality and religion have no place in Destiny. Why even bring it up?

1 AntwortenThere are extremes in everything. Certainly there are some Christians that bring upon themselves a good bit of lashing out due to their fervor about their beliefs. I didn't see the thread but based on your thread, it seems like it was pretty innocent. I've been around the block for a number of decades now and I can tell you as a Christian that there are some folks out there within our group that go about things the wrong way and often their methods are not supported by the teachings of the Bible. They would argue with me on that statement but I have no issue going toe to toe in a theological debate. Now on to those that feel the need to trash anything Christian. I can only guess as to their motives but taking away the religious aspect of it all, I suspect that their fervor either comes from pent up rage from some event that happened to them or it comes from uncertainty. The first option is plainly a human response. People have a tendency to hold grudges and they will often take the opportunity to bad mouth those that they don't like. The second option, I believe is where you'll find the most reaction from non-Christians. These are the folks that probably were raised in the church and chose to not believe. They want very much for their choice to be the right one because they are well aware of the consequences of being wrong but deep down they are conflicted about the choice they have made. That stirs a discontentment that manifests itself in rage. To further this point, I know a number of true atheists. Those guys are calm in their non-belief. They aren't unsettled in the least by discussing religious doctrine or anything else to do with religion. While they don't believe in a god, they often do see the moral benefits that the "stories" of Christianity provide and sometimes even embrace a theological discussion.

1 AntwortenI'm of a different view than most of those who don't affiliate with a particular religious institution, so I don't know if I can really represent them when I say this, but what I'm seeing constantly is that religion has become another reason to fight. Atheists figure their isn't a god, so those that believe are either crazy or deluded. Religious figure those who don't believe will be sent to a horrible place when you die. Atheists preach their concepts because their worried about the mental well-being of the people, and the Religious preach their concepts because their worried about people going to an eternal hell. I think we can all find some common ground in that we're trying to help others, regardless of how, so the best way to do that is to wait for someone to be ready to hear what you think regarding religion, and simply not bring it up all the time. For atheists, wait for someone religious to question their faith, there's any number of circumstances that happen. Don't force the concept down their throat, because it's when their questioning their faith that they'll be most ready to talk about the possibility of a god not existing. They don't' want to hear it the rest of the time, just like you don't want to hear about the splendor of 'what can not be proven to exist.' (I put that in marks because some in the religious community will likely feel there is enough evidence for THEM to believe, and upsetting them is not the purpose of my message.) For the Religious, wait for someone to need a guiding light in the darkness. Life is tough, odds are someone will be lost at some point. That's when religion can be it's most helpful. Regardless of preaching Christianity or some other religion, it's when we need an answer for things that science can't answer, or meaning beyond the facts that religion provides something that few other things can. That's when atheists will be most willing to talk about 'God'. (God is in marks because the name for the highest possible being of worship changes from faith to faith.) Shoving the idea down their throat only serves to wound the mental well being of the person who is trying not to choke while your stuffing their throat. There is only pain in forcing ideas upon each other, which is not the purpose of those of faith, and usually it's not the intention of atheists. (Sometimes it's fun to get people worked up, those who live for this are referred to as trolls. Some Atheists are trolls, and so are some people of faith.) As someone who neither denies the possible existence of a deity, nor believes their must be one because things I don't understand exist, I try to remain open to the belief systems represented to me. However, talking about religion while slaughtering countless enemies in Destiny is not really what I'd find appropriate nor suitable for the situation, as I'd probably miss half or more of what your saying due to explosions and gunfire. The other half might provoke higher thought and discussion, taking my concentration off of slaughtering things. My suggestion to those who wish to play with a specific crowd following a particular religious doctrine would be to form a clan citing the name of the religion in the name. For example, Guardians of Christianity, or some other name that combines the faith with a game term. This is because you'll receive LESS (you'll still get a lot) disrespectful messages than if the name was purely religious in origin. This is because the community will view you as a part of the whole, instead of those seeking segregation from the whole based on a particular set of religious views, which comes across as possibly elitist behavior, regardless of your original intention. Now rest my *pen* (keyboard in this case), you have typed yet another wall of text most will probably skim through, reading things out of context, and the angry messages will come. For the only thing that's truly certain in this world is that someone will always find a way to be angry about what you wrote with the intention of reducing toxic and inflammatory behavior that's worsening a problem instead of addressing it.

8 AntwortenA lot of people on here throwing out really dumb ideas on why this guy wants to play with like minded individuals. It most likely has nothing to do with wanting to talk about the religion. As a Christian I find it difficult to want to play with people that feel the only way to express themselves is with swearing. Maybe this guy has a family, does not have a good headset to play with, and does not want his family over exposed to a ton of swearing. Good Golly, sometimes playing online all you hear is different expletives, ones used as adjectives, nouns, and verbs. He is probably looking for a group of people he feels shares certain values so he doesn't mind them having the ability to talk to the people in his life....This exact reason is why I always mute people when I play online, I don't go around swearing in real life....unless I stub my toe....and I don't want to spend my free time listening to it. Playing with a christian community might not take out all the cussing, but it should help to narrow down a community where you don't have to listen to f bombs every 10 seconds.
-
Because Christians wanting to be with their own kind leads to the idea of others not being welcome because they aren't as good as them. Light wanting to be with like minded means they want to be without the people that hate they're kind, such as Christians.

11 AntwortenA bit off topic: Every once in a while, here in my country of the U.S.A. I'll hear someone say "there are no atheists in foxholes." Which is odd considering there is a monument in our nation's capitol commemorating the sacrifice of American atheists during WWII. I'll tell you where it is hard to find atheists, though: prison. Atheists make up less than 1% of the U.S. prison population. And there are some who insist that religion created morals. The rest of us know better, though. We understand that morality predates religion.

4 AntwortenHint: Be Wary Of Opinion Below I PERSONALLY don't see why someone's sexual/religion/fetish preference is even important to the game, let alone gaming. Why even put up more walls to separate myself from everyone else,at the end of the day,all I ask is you're decent at the game and you're a cool person. I'm going to treat them like a Person and a Gamer at the end regardless of whatever they're into. UNLESS your an *sswhole, then no,I don't want to game with you.

It's the internet. Anonymity+teens=intolerance of mainstream beliefs.
-
there are also people in the christian community who condemn us for playing "violent" games like this
-
11 AntwortenI don't care who I play with, just know how to play the game. I will say it is much more enjoyable when you have people that are like minded. As a Christian my self, it's nice to be in a party with other like minded Christians as they tend not to be as vulgar as most people online saying the F word every five seconds as that get's old and annoying pretty quickly. To each their own. If you don't like it, screw off.
-
6 AntwortenBecause a lot of Christians try to convert people to Christianity, and are annoying as hell about it
-
The fact that Christians have been the attackers over these past years is why. Between the bad things they have done and the discrimination, christianity as a whole isn't as tolerated. Not every Christian is a discriminatory jerk but there are quite a few, so people tend to be sour when they come across them.

Bearbeitet von Primal Daemon: 7/22/2014 5:38:17 PMWe've never had true 100% tolerance in the USA, well. . . .ever. There's always some group or another that's been the focal point for mistrust, hate, dislike and malcontent. Lately, in the last couple of decades, the media have been the ones fanning the flames and fueling the hate. It's easier to dislike someone when the t.v. tells you to, apparently. As for true tolerance, I think the American founders had the right idea. They believed that a person had the right to worship whatever or whomever they wanted. I concur. They also believed a person had the right to THINK you were a screwball for your beliefs. I concur. The crime comes when we either try to shove our beliefs in another persons face or when we degrade and abuse someone for voicing their beliefs. Either one is wrong. I think the best way for people to understand one another would be to say, 'Hey, I don't really care if you worship a kumquat. Just don't try to get me to worship it. Let's just (insert activity here) and respect each other enough to avoid stepping on toes.' Just a little more education, on both sides. Just a little more conformity, on both sides. Just a little more respect, on both sides.

You think we live In a generation of tolerance to this sort of behaviour. You're naïve my friend. Equality and diversity is just a sugar coated resolution thinned out on top of a deeper problem. Unfortunately discrimination will never be stamped out, especially when we live an outdated societal structure of what we have today.

Bearbeitet von Tennfors: 7/22/2014 5:40:47 PMHahahahhaha I'm so sorry but when I opened the thread I thought your name was RacistTempest! Found it really hilarious ^^ But no, there should be no hate. I would want to question though why it matters if you play with christians or not. I wan't to believe that games can bring us together, as people. People with common ground and love for the arts of games no matter what beliefs, culture or sexual preference you have. Love to all the guardians! Walk in the light of the traveler! <3

1 AntwortenI think that from an outsider's perspective, many religions appear to be wealthy institutions who wish nothing more than to recruit and gain money by any means necessary. I'm not saying that's the truth, just the perception that is held by many non-religious people. Also, from the perspective of someone who is not involved in the LGBT community, the people in that group appear to be oppressed, the underdogs, if you will, who merely want to be accepted. To the people who view these two communities in this way, attacking religion is the equivalent of the Rebellion over-throwing the Empire. While accepting, welcoming, and being friendly to those in the LGBT community, is the equivalent of Chunk giving Sloth a Baby Ruth and making him part of the Goonies. What I mean by that, is when we perceive someone as being an oppressor, it is our natural instinct to stand up to them. When we see someone being oppressed, it is our natural instinct to defend them. It feels noble, and good people always want to do the noble thing. In reality, despite these generalizations, most religious people are not oppressive jerks trying to shove beliefs down your throat, and most LGBT people are not helpless victims.

35 AntwortenSee liberals spout on about racism. They then turn around and laugh and call people stupid for having beliefs in a Lord and Savior. How is that not the same as being racist or prejudice. Anyways thank you for sticking up for us.

Beliefs are beliefs, if anyone wants a LGBT or Christian group or even a purple headed yogurt slinger group.. Make a damn clan. Simple enough. Clans are the best way to get like minded people together to have fun. Seriously how hard is it?
-
4 AntwortenLook at the post in this section. This is why some people don't want to be around religious people. Your doing to yourselves. Just play the game.
-
If you were actually tolerant you wouldn't have made this post. Just a thought But please proceed with your rant about intolerance.

13 AntwortenBecause most Christians seem to think that their mandate from "God" to "spread the word" overrules your right to not have to hear it. If you tell them you don't want to hear it, they usually then will not quit pestering you about it. When you finally break down and tell them you have a different religion/religious beliefs, then they feel that it's their right to harass you constantly with quips about burning in hell, again regardless of whether or not you have asked them to cease. Most people really don't go for that shit, so Christians get the harsh treatment that they do. Christianity: "Believe like we do, or we'll beat you to death with our bibles."
-
i think you have a very good point and everybody on here has a right to there beliefs and if they choose to play with other people who share there beliefs so be it.
