You did get your code for free. The payment for the beta code goes towards the pre order.
If anything, Microsoft is the one punishing you.

because microsoft sucks and its technically not because I had to go to the store and put money down in order to get it, people keep using this point but I wouldn't have gotten a code if I didn't pay now would I?

Technically, if you preorder, and dislike the beta, you can get the $5 back (that was put down for THE GAME). Thus making it free. Also, if it wasn't free, you'd end up paying like $65 for the game, instead of $60 (before tax, and assuming standard edition). Sooooo yea, the code is free ;)

that made little sense why would I pre order if I didn't want to buy the game why bother pre ordering at all if I don't want it? what that's pointless so again not free maybe it is for those using that idiotic pointless method also I said I'm excited to play the beta if you bothered reading the full post so this made no sense I'm context with what I said lol

100% of the money you put down goes towards the price of the game. Hence its called a preorder. You aren't buying the BETA. You are buying the game, and if you buy the game ahead of time, they give you access to the preorder for free.
