After logging quite a few hours of PVP sessions, I finally think I am ready to give my complete impression of its current status. Overall I think it is very fun, and addicting. The gunplay feels tight, and some of the one on one cat and mouse games can be very intense. It does play a bit like Halo, but I don't think that is a bad thing at all.
My main concern with the PVP is the secondary weapons. I think it is overkill that everyone can have their main weapon and a shotgun/sniper. Anything CQ is just a shotgun-fest! It dramatically lowers the skill gap, and is frustrating.
The last game I played was on Rusted Lands, and their entire team was using sniper rifles as their secondary weapon. It made it almost impossible to move without being hit and either dying, or having your health drop to red immediately. I thought this was very frustrating, and it really took all of the fun out of the competitive gunplay.
I suggest that for PVP they revamp it and let you have your main weapon, a pistol for your secondary, and move the shotgun/sniper into the heavy weapon slot. That way it isn't as out of control as it is now. I think that a shotgun/sniper should be more like a power weapon, and not a weapon you can constantly be using.
I never noticed this problem right away, but it seems like the more I play the more the shotgun/sniper is being abused.
What do you guys think about this? Are you fine with it the way it is, or do you think that the shotgun/sniper is too prevalent and takes the skill level out of the game?
TL:DR, I do not like that everyone can have a shotgun/sniper as a secondary weapon. I think it reduces the skill-gap, and that perhaps these weapons should be moved to the heavy weapon slot. What do you guys think?

Bearbeitet von LockSkywalker: 6/14/2014 10:38:00 PMCould have just said "nerf secondary ammo pickup times." Secondary ammo is so prevalent that I see people just passing it because their secondary ammo is completely full. When I get ammo for my sniper I want it to feel like a big deal. Like I have an advantage. Like when I get heavy ammo. I get those 2 rockets and I know I have the upper hand.

Also- Throwing this out there. I will say that what makes shotguns 2x more effective at close range than say a semi-Auto weapon is at medium range. Is that instantly after firing your shotgun you can melee. Meaning your dead if your within melee range and i have a shotgun. I think they should delay the melee attack for 0.5-1 second if you just fired a shotgun.

Honestly it isnt the weapons its the play styles and map layput. Once i realised that i raised my average kd from 1.5 to 2.5. I win all of my battles if i use a shottie in a close quarter area. Medium range- Auto or semi auto gun. Sniper- long range. In any other ranges these guns become inneffective. Also i find the secondaries, primaries and heavy weapons to be very well balanced as far as usage. Ammo supplies are low and you must plan to get ammo on your way to the opponents area. The ONLY broken thing in pvp right now are the vehicles. And this only applies to the start of the round in the snowy map. If vehicles that triple your health and fires infinite rockets are allowed at the start of the round, Then everyone needs to start off with atleast 1 round of ammo for their heavy weapons. It is unfair to have to wait 5 minutes for a good way to take out some guy who just terrorizes 2/3 of the map and sits on flags with his vehicle and no one can stop him unless he severly messes up.

I agree and disagree. I've played the alpha quite a bit and I agree having a shotgun constantly lowers the skill gap a little. However, if you're fighting a guy with a shotgun at medium to long range, you're probably going to win. So if you have a sniper and you see a close quarters space, don't go in there. So it's kind of playing smart other than run and gun like most first person shooters. Plus you need special ammo other than primary to refill.

1 AntwortenI think that the current system is good, but special ammo should be more limited

Sounds like a decent idea. Go to alpha.bungie.net and join the clan Every Console Is the name. Let's team up and do some tests in PvP

Hmm the sniper used to be a heavy but was moved to a special weapon. The hand cannon was then moved from a special weapon to a primary.

1 AntwortenI haven't gotten a chance to play the game yet so I am on the outside looking in here.. But, I would tend to agree with you and could imagine how those two weapons would end up being spammed. However, I couldn't see them throwing them in on the same level as say the rockets, as in, with the power weapons. Seems to me that the rockets are far more powerful than the sniper and shotty. Do they even have "secondary weapons" like pistols? If not, it would be hard to put limits on being able to carry an AR and a shotty/sniper.

2 AntwortenKeep in mind that secondary weapons are special weapons. Normal ammo doesn't refill them I think. I haven't really seen to many Sniper Rifle users and thank god for that. Shotgun really is only CQC style. I do hope they add more types of weapons in the Beta release though.

2 AntwortenI haven't played, so take my analysis with a grain of salt. It seems that everyone having access to shotguns and snipers would increase the emphasis on skill, not decrease it. If everyone has a shotgun, then it seems like situations would require more skill and more tactics, unlike in Halo where the guy with the shotgun won simply because they overpowered the other guy.
