So with the updated moderation and recent bugs being stomped out, the site is continuing to improve (which is awesome). However, there is still something I feel needs to be included into the site in order to further improve the user experience and that is locked threads. Why, you ask? Let me give you my two cents.
Although the CoC has been updated to provide the moderation team more muscle and intimidation, one thing has still been left out of the Code of Conduct is necrobumping (bumping an old or "dead" thread). It may not necessarily harm users but it can often be annoying and misleading to most forum-goers (myself included). I feel locking threads should, if possible, be reinstated back into the current build for bungie.net.
Necrobumping isn't the only justification however, locking threads could also come in handy when it comes to bans. It should be like the old system where once a user is banned, the thread becomes locked so that it may die and go down the list.
So yeah, that's pretty much it. How do you all feel abut the lock feature?
For new members who weren't around for the last site, locking a thread is pretty much what it sounds like. Once a moderator locks the thread no one can reply to that thread any more, which allows it to die down.

Nah. Necrobumping isn't that big of a deal to me. As long as a thread has discussion value, I don't understand why the thread date should prevent discussion from happening.

1 AntwortenBearbeitet von Spawn: 1/23/2014 8:28:13 PMYes and no. There are other ways at dealing with this. I'm probably in the minority, but I ALWAYS check the time stamp on a thread upon entering it. It's just habit. 1. The current "auto-hide archive" is 1 year. Simply bring that down to 1 month or 2 weeks as it was in the old site. People can still respond to the thread and hold conversations (notifications are still sent), but after 2 weeks the thread doesn't appear in the public forums. It still exists, just becomes auto-hidden. 1a) The downside of method 1 is that "important pinned" threads ALSO get auto hidden after X amount of time. That includes, FAQ's, Titlebar thread, threads that some OP's put days worth of time into. You're giving threads a maximum time limit before activity drops severly. The only way to participate further is by either saving the thread or having a direct link. 2. Someone mentioned a couple weeks ago to implement the tag #Locked, which would only be used by ninjas and webteam. When a thread gets the #Locked tag, no one can respond to it. It still exists. It doesn't get moved or deleted. 3. This point goes around the fact that it's near impossible to derail a conversation thanks to the thread structure now. So it's easy to argue, why should locking even return? Is it that big of an inconvenience? Rambling thoughts, plotting and scheming. PS, nice avatar change.

Meh, I'd rather the sorts be fixed such that necro bumping is not as easy to do. First off, the latest sort should be based on the created date, not the last modified date. It'll always be a list of the threads in the order they were created. No bumping at all. Trending should be fixed so that it does what latest does now, but take an average of the last X posts by unique users. That way a single user can only have 1/X influence on the trendingness of a thread.

4 Antwortenno i dont. locked threads were one of the biggest issues i had with bungie.old. lots of times the ninjas would lock really good threads. lots of times the ninjas would even lock the joke threads too, just because they didnt find anything funny.

Just the idea of locks in general really excites me in ways none of you can imagine So I'm in favor of this

I'd love to see locked threads come back.

It would be cool if locked and sticky threads made a return.

IMO...there are a lot of new ppl that are joining Bnet everyday....I feel as you do that they are being misguided by OOD (Out Of Date) information. All it takes is 1 Necr-Bump to get a whole bunch of newbs Confirming that Tiger Man is your start up character. I would welcome Locking Threads
