You may not want us, but we are good for you :P
My apologies; I know im beating a dead pony here, but there have been so my shooters with medics in them. I just think that if they gave me a heal gun/ healing space magic, or something ; I would turn you into believers. I am the kind of person who never takes center stage. Instead my pride comes from supporting others. Throwing down a healing turret, using a medical beam gun, throwing healing grenades or bubble shields, busting out the field AED, thats what Im into! I just want to heal, its what I do. (Imagine if you will) Your on your last leg. Wave after wave of dudes are comming at you like you owe them money! You just cant afford to die here; You've have come so far. You deside to go down fighting in a fit of rage; hoping to get just one more kill before death snatches you up. But then a medic shows up and throws down that healing goodness; allowing you to fight on!!! Surrrre any other kind of character could help you keep the fight going. But they're prlly just gunna steal your kills and not rez you until they have killed the enemy that you were try'n to kill before you fell. But true a healer will assist you in killing those jerks with your own hands :) Our joy comes from keeping that life bar full!!
Support Healing in Destiny
We will keep you on your feet as you bring the enemy to it's knees.

I guess its a pipe dream. It rlly wasnt that silly of an idea.

Healing does not have a role in a First Person Shooter as a class-specific ability in Destiny, I hope. It always causes issues within MMOs with the triangle of balance and doesn't really serve to promote a single-player world with some co-op thrown in.
-
Please go be a doctor in real life, there is (hopefully) no space for healers in Destiny.

1 AntwortenBut... what would happen to holding onto a grenade and running into a group of enemies?!
-
what if you are like me and you like the thrill of being low on health on your last bullet not sure you are going to survive. I love healers in all but they might take the fun out of it. Unless there is a limit to how much healing a healer can use

5 AntwortenI don't need an analogy to understand that the role of healer really doesn't below in an FPS. It's just too RPG/MMO for a game that is building up to be a really fun social shooter. Also, one made by a developer that is known for their ability to streamline gaming experiences to their core. I don't want to be bogged down by having to worry about filling certain roles just to shoot my gun at the target. Also, even the phrase "healer class" just doesn't seem like Bungie. If they have gone this long without the need for heavy RPG elements as a crutch, why would they all of the sudden relay on D&D archetypes? Honestly, there is nothing a healer can do that a shield or regenerating health or a medpac can't. Plus, you get the added advantage of not have to sacrifice a valuable spot on your fireteam. I don't need someone summoning magic to beat my objective. I need someone who can shoot and be strategic about it.

While sure, I'll play Medic in TF2 and have a good time now and again, I don't really think Healers are necessarily beneficial to game design. Make them too weak, and no one wants to play them because they don't make a big impact. Give them a significant impact on fights, and now all encounters have to be balanced around having a healer in your party. In doing this, you make healers almost mandatory as now completing the encounters (particularly extended fights) without healers is far more difficult. Dedicated healers almost always reduce the choices you have when picking a party because the game is balanced around having one of those buds on your side. Some people like to play that role, but I doubt it's close to the majority and I don't think players should have to have a medic in their party. I'd prefer something like...the Pilot class from Battlefront or the Drop Shield (though that had its own problems) from Reach. You have supporting abilities that can still make clutch saves, but it isn't overwhelming and players aren't forced into only protecting their squad. You get the support side of things while still keeping it optional because it isn't too powerful and the user of these abilities still focuses on direct combat. I'd like to see that, but no more TF2 Medic please.

1 AntwortenBearbeitet von Hylebos: 7/6/2013 6:11:17 AMNo thanks. Dedicated Healers are all too often a trap from a Game Design standpoint. How many games have there been where healing is so essential to the metagame, it's almost mandatory if you want to have a chance at competition? If Destiny had dedicated healing abillities, there would always need to be some poor sap on your team to heal everyone else's asses, and to be honest that's a waste of imagination and it leads to stale team compositions. I would rather that every guardian in the game have some abillity to heal or regenerate themselves without wasting specialization or customization towards that purpose, there are more interesting ways to bring support builds to life without chaining them down to a medkit.

woot; im getting likes so I know a few of you love the feel'n of the heal'm ^_^

1 AntwortenI think each class should have some heal/buff abilities, but I don't think ANY class should focus on it.
-
Destiny will have neither vegetables nor healers, so we won't need to worry about it.
-
2 AntwortenHow OP would a team of healers be? Would they need to have less firepower to balance them out? If they are offensively nerfed, how do you play single-player? Would they be a challenge class? If they are a challenge class, wouldn't that undue all the effort Bungie has put in to making the classes equal but different? It's a nice idea OP, but Healers belong in arena shooters or MMOs. Destiny may be a hybrid, but not everything from either of the two sides of the hybrid belong in it.

I absolutely understand where you're coming from. I think the mindset has definitely changed over the past couple of years, however. Dedicated anything doesn't really exist in a lot of forward thinking games. It will most likely be a setup where everyone has a small self heal. However, I would not be surprised if there will be specs that will allow you to focus on a more support oriented role. Let's look forward to more information, and don't get discouraged yet. P.S. I remember the great EQ2 days of wandering around PvPing outside Qeynos and holding off groups of enemy players since my Warden kicked healing ass and kept my small group up. I know that adrenaline rush you are addicted to. I know...

2 AntwortenWhere is the buffing team mates and providing cover fire anymore
-
3 AntwortenIf I am facing hordes of enemies, I want someone DPS'ing the enemies on my flank - not healing me and making me do all the real work. Healing should not be a primary focus.
-
If there were no warlocks in the game and I started a thread about having warlocks; The this thread would looks the same just replace the words (healer or medic) with warlock. Some would like the idea, but many would not like it. My point it that its silly to be so closed minded to things. I am happy that Bungie is so open minded, cuz if they weren't; Destiny would be just another FPS.
-
I'm sure there will be defensive abilities for every class, maybe you can have a whole fireteam of healers!

1 AntwortenEver play Team Fortress 2? I like this idea.

4 AntwortenHeloooooo nurse! On a serious note: Why not change your thoughts on how to support others in this game? If you want to purely help, the best way you can do that is watch the back of a fellow Guardian. Stay on higher ground to point out incoming enemies, and take pot shots at them to either distract them or lower their health to make it easier on the guardians below. If someone is dead, you revive them like a corpsman: You get into the thick of battle, revive, then cover. That is what I would like to see in a person who prefers support.
