NASA cancels all education and outreach programs.
So not only is our space agency not capable of manned space flight, nor will it be any time soon, but now has halted its extensive educational programs. So, I guess now exists only to assist the National Weather Service and to funnel money to Space-X. Any kids dreaming about going to space when they grow up better start learning Russian.
That's just sad.

I thought this was an April Fools joke... That's terrible news.

19 AntwortenGood. Its about time people stopped living in a dream world caring about the little green men that you used to live on Mars and shit, and start living in the real world. Time to grow up, we got enough problems at home.

4 Antworten*Sigh* The end of NASA is in many ways, marking the beginning of the end of the US's dominance on the world stage. I wouldn't be surprised to see NASA canned, or made a shell of its former shelf in the next 20 years, with corporations taking over. I also wouldn't be surprised if the corporations put profit over achievement. *Shakes head*

I'll just drop this here.

9 AntwortenFunny how a lot of idiots in this thread fail to understand how the rel world works, and it just goes to show how they've been playin video games too much. It's senseless to waste money on a company that hasn't made any significant feats in space since the 70s, and barely have anything to show for itself technologically compared to the private sector and defense. It's about time people realize how NASA didn't deserve the funding it got.

14 AntwortenRemember kids, this is what happens when Republicans are allowed to decide things. Sequester cuts, what a great idea... Screw anything that doesn't profit businesses, right?
-
4 AntwortenSpace education? Hahahaha. Those who wish to be in the field will find themselves a way. Public schools learning about anti matter wont help the economy. Im glad they are changing ideals and switching to pushing funds in a more practical method. I.E WE MARS NOW

2 AntwortenIt seems that people don't value the technological advancements that NASA brings to world through it's funding and research in space

4 AntwortenAn alien ship investigates Earth with two aliens on-board. One alien says "They seem to have developed basic space technology and nuclear weapons." The other asks "Are they an emerging intelligence?" The first "No, they stopped their space explorations and are pointing their nuclear missiles at themselves!" More or less true.

1 AntwortenThey wont need to know russian, it is becoming a private industry, and thats the only way it will succeed.
-
That sucks.
-
2 AntwortenScrew it. Let's band together and start the UNSC as the entire world's new space program. I don't care what the Halo lore says about it being founded in the 2100s. Let's start it NOW.

Good thing Im Russian :)

Robco and Repconn, dude.

This is a shame.

someone high up must be happy with stupid kids. -blam!- them.

NASA's the only group that can put their full fledged efforts into space exploration and research just for SAKE of it. Yeah it's gonna cost money for them to continue their research and projects that probably won't *gasp* TURN A PROFIT. The budget crisis' worst impact was turning everything into a profit margin on a numbers sheet. It's impact on anything but the government, taxpayers, or corporations bottom line is the only thing short-sighted people see. NASA's potential to do their research and development doesn't HAVE to turn a profit like corporations need to function. Some might say that NASA just sucks up money for their projects but literally NOTHING else can send a damn rover to mars for the sake of collecting rocks teaching us about the universe. Those who don't value that knowledge shouldn't have a say where their money goes if they're that short-sighted about the future of humanity.

13 AntwortenBearbeitet von Forsvantro: 3/26/2013 3:36:42 AMfun fact: Nasa's manned spaceflight program for the last 40 years has just been a way to funnel money from the government to boeing and lockheed as a matter of survival after the pressures of the cold war lessened. The space shuttle and ISS were shitty, expensive, unsafe, and relatively pointless compared to their intended purpose, but they did keep hundreds of thousands of people in work for decades, and that's what's important when you're trying to get the support of congress. Don't expect anything better out of SLS either you dreamers, its too massive to achieve economies of scale, and even if there was a plan to use it, only 1 or 2 launches will be able to be made a year with it. People might be on Mars by 2040, but NASA sure won't have anything to do with it. Ontopic: this is a political move in an attempt to spark public outrage, since Nasa is desperate for the public to care about them.

Are you saying that all my countless hours into moonbase: alpha was for nothing?! Dem Bastards! Oh well.. -blam!-... that means we will die when the sun dies if we dont get spacetravel up and going.

9 AntwortenNow with Space Exploration left to private corporations.. Things should start booming. I heard by the year 2025.. A private company wants to have a colony set up on Mars.
-
It clearly says that it's a suspension - not a cancellation. So, calm down.
-
This is really more of a political move then an actual budgeting issue I think. Removing those programs would piss off the most people as humanly possible in order to get more money from the budget. I do support most of what NASA does but these cuts seem very specifically targeted to get the most public outrage.
