Take a look at the search above. All I did is type "home defense" into Google and did an image search. Take a look at what pops up.
Now why are those particular images coming up?
Why would you use those particular images for the home defense argument? In the US the AK would be the WORST home defense weapon, but its the 9th image shown. The 6th is a mini-14. Yet another not very good choice. My favorite is the 3rd image. Because home defense means AR-15's, 2 SKS's, an Uzi, ans 12 handguns.
I'm not talking about need. I don't care about the need vs want argument. What I am talking about is how the argument is presented. I just googled home defense and this is what came up. That means anytime someone wants to look at this argument, this is what they will see. Survivalist, gun nuts. And that is why America is split.
The pro-gun argument looks to be maintained by guys who want to defend their homes with AK's and Uzi's.

4 AntwortenAll I know is that in countries without guns, so in my experience England, Australia and New Zealand, there simply aren't issues like this. None of us think about needing a gun to defend ourselves, because that shit never happens. Allowing guns on the offchance that the guy invading your home has a gun just makes it more likely that the guy invading your home has a gun. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. The problem for the US is that gun culture is now fundamentally intertwined into the society, removing guns is not going to happen. Stop civilians from being to able to get guns and the criminals, who already have them, are going to have a field day.

4 AntwortenHow are images found on Google representative of all pro-gun supporters? That's just a ridiculous assumption. As for what guns are appropriate for home defense, that varies for every home. Some people would be best suited using an AR-15 for home defense. Others might be best suited with a 12-gauge or a pistol or carbine in .45 ACP. There isn't one solution for every problem, and people need to stop lumping everything together. People buy firearms for different reasons, whether that be for sporting or defensive purposes.

5 AntwortenI don't own a gun. I don't plan on owning a gun so I may not know much on the topic. I want to know if people think a handgun is sufficient defense. In my opinion, it feels with enough training, a hand gun can defend your home from the common burglar if needed. IF NEEDED. Not all burglars will come in armed, so shooting the perp isn't always the solution. Seriously though, I feel like a handgun owner with the proper time taken to use the gun properly should be able to defend his home. But again, what do I know.

1 AntwortenBearbeitet von o_____________o: 2/28/2013 2:46:04 AMI googled "black people" on google images and got a bunch of stereotypical image, but using your logic, all of them must be true about black people, including the one that shows the black guy in prison.

4 AntwortenUzi's are illegal to begin with, along with the AK if you are talking about the select fire variant. Also, you can't define home defense off of the most absurd image you find on the internet; some of those pictures are supposed to be jokes, like the broom vs AK image. Anyways, the Constitution says nothing about having weapons for home defense or even hunting, they are to resist the takeover of a tyrannical government.

3 AntwortenActually, the third image has a SPAS-12, 2 G3s, 2 AR15s with Triangular hand guards, 1 AR15 with carbine length circular hand guard, 1 AR15 with rifle length circular hand guard, and one AR15 with an LMG upper (Damn, those things go for $5000), and yes on the Uzi, looking at the handguns in this blurry photo I can make out a Beretta M92, full size Glock model in unknown version, Smith and Wesson Model 22A, one Kel Tec PF9, one Baby Browning in .25 ACP, a PA64 bulgarian Makarov copy, and one indeterminable. As for why these are all out in such a fashion, I would assume it to be a "family photo".

I see what you mean but it's referred to as home security. If you were looking for alarms and such.

5 AntwortenThe Bungie community apparently has the reading comprehension of a tooth pick. This isn't a gun control thread. Charlie it talking about the terrible public image the pro-gun side has in this argument. The average voter/citizen isn't going to be as knowledgeable about guns as you are nor will they be as comfortable. So when they do a lazy search and the first results come up with what looks to be a bunch of loonies preparing for the end times they aren't going to be very supportive of your side. The pro-gun side really needs to work on its image if it wants to win people over.

7 AntwortenOh look. Another political thread by who other than our good ol' Charlie. What a surprise. OT: Logical fallacy is permeating throughout your entire post. I don't even know where to begin. 1st: Why do you care what people defend their homes with? A gun is a gun despite it's apparent "usefulness." 2nd: Please tell me again why it is you're trying to blanket an entire group of people based on a Google image search? Seriously dude, it's hard to take you seriously these days.

To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of "gun nuts" myself, but I just let them be. I believe in the Second Amendment, but my reasons are based on logic and statistics, not an emotional attachment to firearms.

4 AntwortenI need ONE handgun to defend my house. There are always those peoplewho need Semi-Auto rifles with 30 round clips. It makes me chuckle.

I don't see how that harms it? Also, a majority of those pictures aren't actually what an average person would use to defend their home. Pictures of Google images is not a very good count argument against guns, get some real "evidence" and we'll talk.

Ugh yeah. Radicals hurt any argument.

12 AntwortenI think both sides need real education, but honestly, I REALLY think the more extreme members of the pro gun lobby need to understand gun control does not mean gun prohibition.

What difference does it make if someone wants to defend their home with a shotgun, pistol, revolver, AK, Uzi, or anything else? Let the homeowner decide what weapon they feel most comfortable with. I never understood why people who tend to be pro-gun have to explain why they want certain firearms. After all, no one exercising their First Amendment has to explain why they feel the need to exercise their freedom of speech, press, religion, petition or assembly. But someone exercising their Second Amendment? Why do you need an AK? Shotgun and pistol work fine. Why do you need 30 round magazines? You'll be fine with 10. It's rather ridiculous, the way it's portrayed in the media, that those exercising the Second Amendment have to explain why they need certain firearms, yet no one has to explain why they exercise their First Amendment or Fourth or Fifth or any other?
