I'm going to try to explain her in Xenocide the best way I can because I don't have the book on me. In that it said something about her being a shell that the workers made up. So she's a collective of their minds. It said something about Ender being surprise she was. Because all that time he thought he was talking to the Hive Queen herself. Herself as in a single being. But in Children of The Mind it said this on page 134.
Her workers slept in the dark of night, though it wasn't darkness that stooped them down in the cave of her home. Rather it was her need to be alone inside her mind, to set aside the thousands distractions of the eyes and ears, the arms and legs of her workers. All of them demanded her attention.

The pequenino farthertree named Human had explained to her that in one of thee human languages this had something to do with love The Coonections of love. But the Hive Queen knew better. Love was the savage coupling of the drones.
So both of those quotes implies that she is her own single being. Which means both books contradict each other.

1 AntwortenThe Hive Queen is one being, but she is also all her workers. Her workers cannot even function without her. She IS their brain, and she communicates just like the Ansible. Well, it's not quite true. The workers lose their focus and brain when she doesn't direct them in tasks, but they are still individual beings. If they lose their link to the Queen, they will no longer be able to function. But she doesn't need to be directly controlling the workers. They just need that connection to function and do what is needed. They are like her arms and legs too- she can control them when she needs to and see what they see. They are extensions of her body.

2 AntwortenI'm only a third into Xenocide, so I dunno. I've always been under the impression (having read Ender's Game, Speaker for the Dead, Ender in Exile, and the Shadow saga) that the Hive Queen was a like the brain, and the rest of the Formics were like extensions of her being.
