Anyone here getting it too? Which character will you play as? I will probably go Maya first, for phase lock awesomeness.
Then Salvador for BAMF mode.

It was a portal for the Destroyer to get from it's dimension to Pandora. The Guardian Angel apologizes after because she basically led you right into fighting a giant boss that could have killed you. Now for Handsome Jack, he's saying that he got his riches from the vault because he's taking credit for finding and opening the vault. I don't think anyone would have even known about the vault being real if it wasn't for Handsome Jack saying he found it. Handsome Jack is using the "vault riches" as a way to control Pandora and hold a power over them since he was the one to "find" the vault. [Edited on 09.12.2012 9:15 AM PDT]

Note: I did not play any of the DLC's.[/quote] I think the guardian Angel that contacts you in the beginning tricks you into thinking the vault is a mythical place of untold riches because the Destroyer (whatever it's called, at the end of the game) has the opportunity to be released every 200 years, and you happen to be there at the right time, so she deceives you into killing it, as to stop it from escaping, destroying all of Pandora. I think that's what was going on. I might be wrong, though.

When I'm playing with friends at first, I'll probably use Maya for a bunch of those teammate-helping abilities, but when I'm playing alone, I'll probably be using Salvador.
