Fellow D1 Vets, talk with me. I’ve been around since the Beta.
I want to know if I’m in denial right now or if this really is as brutal as it seems:/
This is absolutely the harshest drought we’ve had in Destiny as a whole so far? Or what?

2 AntwortenJune update i believe is age of triumph 2.0 & an end of life update, so yes it's the worst it's ever been. D1 beta player too 👍

1 AntwortenAgreed. On top of content drought, I really feel like the artifact has killed a lot for the game. Still wishing we had the option to switch between artifacts ....would make past builds relevant again and give players the choice to play how they wanna play.
-
Absolutely!

4 AntwortenOf course it is. Bungie in their hubris decided to kill their cash cow for a fkn extraction shooter. All the money players have thrown at them for years... for an extraction shooter. Remember all the excuses they made for the pvp people? Well now we know beyond a shadow of a doubt what happened. Just like on the pve side of the game. They neglected all areas for Marathon. Instead of making the this game better or making a D3 they opted to make Marathon. All of us who stuck around for so long are bigger fools than bungie.

It's a total sht show buddy.

Yeh I think so. Probably the end of D2 but time will tell if the franchise has a future.

pretty much sums it up

As a d1 alpha vet…. Yes it is

Bearbeitet von Howiepenguin: 3/15/2026 7:23:40 PMD1 beta vet here. Yes, this is the worst point Destiny has ever reached. You are not in denial, nor are you delusional in that thought process.

The reason it’s low is because there is nothing to do, the recent expansion has been out for a while now. Bungie delayed the next expansion in hopes of getting all of you to play marathon. I don’t want to say destiny is dead despite the player count. I will say bungie is killing destiny because they now have a shiny new toy to exploit players with. Marathon just came out and they already have a season pass, they have dedicated servers, anti cheat, permanent bans on any cheater, better matchmaking etc. Ll the things players asked for destiny. Destiny could potentially die but it’s gonna come down to you guys.

OP: It’s just more of the same, since way back when…mismanagement / hubris / greed / radio silence / etc. - coupled with a wheezing game engine / crumbling infrastructure / spaghetti coding / bad RNG / reskins galore (blackhammer, spindle, whisper 1&2) / etc. I got D1 for my (then) little ninja’s Xmas gift in 2014…and I played as a T, and was his wingman. Later, he went away to school so I got my own Star Wars ps4 or was it ps3? 🤔 The main reason being, the ‘in game’ comms were better than Skype at that time, and Papa was on call 24/7…if needed! 👍 Some time later… IMHO: the first hammer blow was the Sunset debacle. That was the day the ‘space magic’ died…and many sang - bye-bye, Destiny, bye… I bounced over to WF (MR24 😎)…had a whale of a time…until I’d had my fill. Back to Destiny’s shores…where I’ve been pootling about ever since. Only, this time, I just did vanilla stuff (mostly)…no more endgame with its ridiculous RNG and other enhanced difficulty stuff…where they raised the floor to the ceiling at every turn…to satisfy the squeals of the few… I did the epic 12-man mission…and enjoyed the cutscenes that followed it…glad I had my handkerchief…🫠 …though, this is where my 10-year compact effectively ended. Lightfail is where they pushed the new Neomuna Overtuna (N.O.) vibe…and pushed again at every turn. Players complained. BHQ maintained radio silence. Players began to leave. Yada…yada..blah, blah…and here we be! 🫤 Personally, I’d like Destiny to survive, and hopefully thrive…though at this stage, it’s hard to see how?! My big problem is that I’ve only played Destiny and WarFrame since D1Y1…and it’s hard to find another game like Destiny…😐 Therefore, my solution is to wait for Steam’s Game Cube launch…get access to the Game Library, and have at it… Which means, no more PlayStation…and probably, no more active play in Destiny…and when a potential whale like me says goodbye, that’s a sizeable chunk of (potential) change to lose…🤔 As mentioned, I whaled it in WF, but hardly spent a penny in Destiny - save for a few charitable donations. I still haven’t forgotten about when they nerfed my ToM into dust…when I played as a bubble T in TTK…and had a blast helping others to drop Oryx…and close the yearbook of Triumphs. 😡 Anyhoo, that’s my 2d worth. 👈 And, no, I haven’t played Marathon…I do like some of the still artwork…but an extraction shooter ain’t my cup of tea. 🙄 That is all. Ease Springs! 🖖👻 MTFBWY

Even though this community is absolutely unbearable to deal with at times, Bungie had something special and wrecked it. This is coming from one of the top generals of the Bungie Defense Force.

Hmmmmmm, could be

Absolutely...no way this would survive if you had to wait for D3 your talking like 3 yrs and would it even be any good...Sucks for sure Absolutely love this game but just cant find it in my soul to play anymore I log on and sit in orbit for like an hour just taking deep breaths...ive played Marathon hell I even bought it its not as bad as everyone says but I also like those types of games spent MANY HRS in the Dark Zone in The Division and Division 2.. Arc Raiders...DMZ CoD...I feel for those who are not into these types...STAY STONG FELLOW GAURDIANS

At least d1 is still the same . You can go back to d1 and play whatever you did many years ago . In destiny 2 that is not the case anymore cause instead of making destiny 3 and leave destiny 2 as it was they came up with the portal , tier loot , new armor stats , every single activity is a long and boring battleground , you have to be on your best to get through the f ing tutorial , it is just not fun anymore and the worst part of it all is that destiny 2 is nothing but a memory while d1 vets can still go back to d1 and play it , nothing got removed in d1 . D1 vets are lucky that they did not change it like d2 cause d2 is gone , forever and then you have these dumb and dumbers that are asking for a destiny 3 😂 that will be even worse and will get destroyed even more by streamers , i can guarantee you that . They will instantly buy what is new so they can promote it and get paid for it . They don't think about the consequences . They don't realize that all their viewers will also buy the dlc and play it and keep the cash flowing to bungie but after 3 weeks the streamers quit and so do their viewers so bungie is preparing the next dlc so the cash can flow again to bungie for that dlc that is not even good but streamers are are not capable of realizing that so basicly the streamer is the reason why games in general but especially destiny 2 is not fun anymore cause playing games is a job now appearently , you don't play games to have fun but to make money cause getting a real job is too much trouble .

In terms of the games quality? No. The gameplay is still 50x better than D2 vanilla and even D1 despite awful changes. And the story while definitely weaker than Final Shape is still better than the hellscape of early D2 and D1. In terms of player count? I think so. But we don't know the player counts of d1 especially during the wait till Taken King. The first 2 dlc were arguably 10x worse than the first two dlc D2 had but at the same time people were more forgiving back then. I'm not comparing D1 current to D2 current since one no longer gets updates and hasn't had one in a long time while the other still gets SOME updates. But rather the current state of D2's player count to a possible D1 when dark below was released.

1 AntwortenBearbeitet von ishikusui: 3/13/2026 7:58:43 AMFor all that people praise the expansion, The Taken King April update basically added just one short quest/story mission and the Blighted Chalice strike. That year was completely dead as far as content updates were concerned. Edit: corrected strike name
-
3 AntwortenLol Renegades came out 3 months ago & we've known we were getting more content since last year. For reference, The Taken King released in September 2015 & Rise of Iron wasn't even confirmed to be in progress until February of 2016.

5 AntwortenI mean there is things to do but the population is so low good luck in doing anything. I remember how bad Year 1 D2 was and it's comparable to how bad things are now.
-
3 AntwortenHonestly I think it's the worse. At least with previous seasons or DLCs we knew there would be more to come. Right now we're sitting here waiting for deathwatch beetle to start sounding.
