Bungie's forgotten what makes Destiny, well... Destiny.

Don't mind me. Just rambling into the void. Bungie has forgotten what brought people along for the ride in the first place. The feeling of the game as a whole, back in Destiny 1 when you first played it, not the best time I'll be the first to admit that, and then they took that start and sent it skyward with the Taken King. Destiny 2 had a very similar start. Rough take off, and then off it went with Forsaken. Since then, it's had its ups and downs, sure. But it just seems like ever since the Final Shape, they just forgot what people liked about the game. People don't want to be in a hamster wheel, chasing newer gear (New Gear system, which they put on hold, and did not confirm to my knowledge is being scrapped.), people don't want this absurd salad of modifiers. All you've done there is absolutely annihilate your matchmaking for the most part. I don't know what it's gonna take, but please for the love of god, rediscover why people loved your game. Something the devs at Bungie really need to understand is, they're not competing with other games when they chase those other games' trends. If people want to play Diablo, they're not going to play Destiny 2. They're going to play Diablo. If people want to play WoW, they're not going to play Destiny 2. They're going to play WoW. You're going to steal like two people from each of the games you try to emulate, and then they're going to dip after a month at most. I used to love Destiny. I miss playing it, but I can't bring myself to play it again. Renegades should have been a win, but with mess you made with EoF and the molasses-like pace of undoing that damage, it wasn't a win. Not at all. Please Bungie, just recapture the feeling of Destiny. Stop trying to capture the feeling of other games. You're at your lowest low. You can't afford to keep trying to poach other games players.

  • Bungie didn't forget. They had turnover so great that most of the designers that were there at the beginning are elsewhere.

  • I've been so bored and uninterested with newer games lately. I've found myself going back to Borderlands 1, when I used to have fun with a game that respected my time put into it.

    • The main issue I find with Bungie, is the constant change in ideas, vision, and overall the different direction that certain leaders or creative minds may have, and instead of attempting to synergize and work with the current systems, they instead attempt to make the old thing obsolete and give a shiny spotlight onto it instead. I dunno if it is a leadership issue (which let us be honest, it mostly was for awhile there), or if simply Bungie has some issues with in house communication. From a lot of what has been kind of shown behind the scenes of Bungie, it really makes me feel that they have a sort of situation where one head wants one thing, but doesn't like the old thing, or is told that they must make a better system to replace the old thing, and is kind of forced into making a bad decision, or else someone else will do it and they lose their job. Really the people who made Destiny 1 are not the same people in the current state of Destiny 2, and it does show. Now I personally think the teams we have currently for D2 are just as amazing as those who cooked up the Taken King and Forsaken, but they have a different style or vision, compared to a lot of the older members of Bungie. Narratively Destiny has not changed, and being a huge fan of Destiny's narrative, it has been my main drive on keeping up with the game and falling madly in love with the universe. Style wise, the game has changed quite a bit from being a lot more dark and gritty, to being a bit more comic style, but in a more sort of anime kind of way, that way they can kind of swap between various themes easily, and keep a sort of more global appeal towards the game. Granted many people don't like the style Destiny has adapted into, and I honestly find that valid, I personally don't mind either or, and will enjoy it regardless. Bungie is 100% aware that EoF wasn't a massive hit and even a few of their own team members have come out and talked a bit about such mistakes or failures. But change takes time and that is something I think people forget often, that when you voice yourself, it isn't an instant or near-instant change. It takes quite a bit for something to be improved upon, and you can find a million reasons or excuses as to why Bungie is at fault for that. I think it is ok to step away from Destiny if you feel like it isn't as fun as it use to be or not as appealing as it once was, but that is something everyone must understand, and at the very least, respect the vision that it is going in, even if a decision made has shifted the game into a direction many were not expecting. I personally don't think EoF was terrible nor was it bad, but that it was another Beyond Light situation with how things were completely different after things were sunsetted and vaulted. Given time, and if Bungie does go down the route of finally making the Light and Dark saga into it's own game or place for people to fully play through, and leaving the Fate saga as Destiny 2, and whatever comes next into Destiny 3. I think Bungie has a lot of protentional and has honestly done a very good job, regardless of their failures and mistakes. I think a lot of the toxic and bad part of the community is finally being severed from the game, and we can finally go back to being a happy and friendly community, seeking to make the game better, and enjoying the content that Bungie gives us. This is their game, their story, their vision. If you don't want to enjoy that, then don't. Hopefully my own rambling isn't minded either, just wanted to put it out there. :P

      • An addition. People saying that Renegade is a "win" is just an opinion. The player count isn't anywhere near the peak of D2. Once you have done the main story, exotic quest and dungeon, it's just a repeating grind which does not value your time. This is no different from previous seasons. Renegade is not going to make the grind any better. Those of us who are done with the grind, or using the recycled content, guns and armour several times won't be swayed by this Renegade "win"

They're going to play WoW.
The irony of me reading that, playing WOW IN THIS VERY MOMENT, to enjoy stuff in that game that is specific to that game. Remember Arrowheads motto Bungie, considering you so openly inspired the new Renegades activities based on it. "A game for everyone is a game for no one".

Man, Stockholm, see ya later, with a "took a break back in renegades post, what I miss?" post. Also you have no clue what Destiny is. Actually tell me the meaning and purpose behind the story and not copy pasta dumb -blam!- from your lore nerds that don't actually dive into the philosophical or scientific aspects of the game. How in the -blam!- could you enjoy a game you never actually understood?

          • Gunplay was driven to an all-time low during TFS. It was like beating my head against a wall with forumers given how frequently I was voicing this issue. But most forumers were "mUh Me SpAm AbIlItIeS eS gUuD!" This is the result: A bloated loot pool ripe with unforgiving RNG and endless grinding for a select few weapons you seemingly never get, paired with infinite Ability Spam out of 1-2 builds we're stuck on for months on end to actually achieve anything. The game has become incredibly unfun....

              • Have you never seen any posts where people on here tell Bungie, "Do [Insert Topic Here] like they do in [Insert Game Title Here]" or make constant comparisons to what other games do? Seems to me like at least some people want Bungie to follow the trends of other games based on that evidence.

It wasn't just Bungie trying to capture rhe "feel" of Diablo and other exploitative live service games. They were basically trying to copy their "engagement farming" methods without realising that the majority of people play these games INSPITE of these terrible grinding mechanics, not because of them. Utterly irrational decision making, driven by spread sheets rather than anyone with actual intelligence and critical thinking. Or a spine. Seriously, EoF launched with so many terrible ideas, player numbers collapsed in a month , and then they insisted on holding onto them for almost half a year my god. And then publish so crap about how change came with risk etc etc. DO YOU PEOPLE THINK WE ARE STUPID ? I mean, the answer was obviously yes.
