I've never worried too much about fashion when it comes to exotic armor ornaments, but I've wanted more freedom with weapons for years. Considering how like 90% of the weapons are all reskins, I personally see no reason why this shouldn't become a feature. Hell, the model for Better Devils has been reused at least 5 times, technically more if we count every time such weapons were reprised. The closest to a valid reason against being able to transmog your weapon that anyone has ever given me was because it would "trick" people in pvp, but there's no way someone is going to VISUALLY SEE, especially at longer ranges, whether the guy is shooting you with a Time Worn Spire or Autumn Wind for example in the 0.6-0.87 seconds or whatever the ttk ranges are of of pulse rifles in general. And chances are if they would've killed you with Rose, they would've killed you with Loud Lullaby, they would've killed you with True Prophecy. And that "deception" would only work 1 time. Even if it needs to be limited by frames or manufacturer, I can't see anything wrong with this. The closest to an actual advantage this would offer is whether a different gun has better sights, and that should be taken as a sign players like those kinds of sights on a gun.
