I am trans (MtF). My wife is trans (MtF). I run a discord server full of trans, gay, and NB people. Most of my friends are trans. My creative writing blog has two trans characters, with one before his/her egg cracked and questioning, and my self-representative character is aromantic.
Micah-10 feels like Bungie made Osiris and Saint gay, made Eramis and Mara lesbian, and then said, whoops! We forgot to represent a minority! Let's hastily slap together a character!
Micah-10 having two dads just feels like over-representation of LGBT. Like whoever wrote the character just assumed trans people are automatically LGBT because they have LGBT parents.
The whole "leaving the planet because of parents fighting" also seems like a very over-representative thing, yes a lot of LGBT people have issues at home but there's also a few that have very happy childhoods.
Then there's the whole thing with Cayde "useing his memories of their time together to create the idea of a son of his own to try and ground his future resets." WHAT ON EARTH IS THAT?
This entire character is an over-representative mess, and bringing it up in my Discord server ended up with most people agreeing.
Micah-10 feels like a cishet person's idea of what a trans person should be like.
Whoever wrote this character needs some strong social sensitivity training.

2 AntwortenI’m still upset about the change to Osiris and Saints relationship. We coulda gotten a Battle Buddies relationship, something we don’t have within the lore. We get close to this, but nothing quite like what we had with Saint and Osiris. One could argue that the Guardian is the Battle Buddy character, especially with their relationship with Saint, Crow, and Cayde respectively, but the Guardian doesn’t get enough in lore representation to have a genuine character. This really sucks because that means we don’t get a whole lot of the Ghost too. I mean, we have had one lore book that has acknowledged that the Ghost died. ONE. So no, we don’t get enough of the Guardian as a character, and we don’t get enough Battle Buddy relationships!

It was all a sociological test anyways... Could we handle representation and understand consciousness not being tied directly to our perception of genders physical limitations... Pretty sure, we are a xenophobic species, so we better be ready for war... As far as them being badly written, plenty of them are... My boy Nimbus got all kinds of f'd in the a...

5 AntwortenOr just experience writing good characters in general, characters, especially blank slates brought back from the dead with vestiges of their old personalities, should be defined by their experiences and actions, not whatever it is they keep trying to do with these characters.

Didn’t even know the character was trans and in that way I’d say they did a good job. Doesn’t need to be the character’s whole personality (contrary to popular belief).

He's a robot who cares

Terrible take.

For as long as I’ve played the game it always feels like the story is: darkness is rising, a baddy is coming, you are what stands between good and evil, BOOM, Blam! Everyone is happy, until Crota’s third cousin on his mom side is seeking revenge and it starts all over again. I don’t think story has ever been the game strong suit.

It's a video game. Not real life.

4 AntwortenMicah-10's been in the lore since the beginning of Destiny 2, and Beyond Light spelled out that Micah Abrams and Micah-10 are the same person. Why is it only an issue now? Never mind that the argument between the parents has context within the story - there was a divide between them over what Clovis Bray was doing with the Exos. Nor do I see Micah having two fathers as the writers making certain assumptions about LGBT families.

WTF does any of this have to do with a damn video game....stop living in an illusion...its a game...no one wants that crap as is

7 AntwortenAgree, there is too much representation for LGBT in Destiny. Literally, almost half of all named characters seem to be LGBT, which is unrealistic. In real life, only 6-8% of the world's population fall into the LGBT category. Of that 6-8% only 1-2% are Ts.

Bungie should just focus on writing good characters instead of trying to be sensitive to every minority in existence.

Who the heck is Micah-10? Sorry have I not given these clowns a penny since witch queen.

Micah is an exo. I didn’t think they would have genders.
