People make mistakes, obviously written incorrectly the game is not a MMO.
-
Well, it's directly from mouth of Luke Smith.
-
Well then....there's no surprise there....🤣🤣🤣
-
The Store page is incorrect. Destiny doesn't qualify to be an MMO. It lacks certain qualities that MMO's have.
-
Bearbeitet von Anzaman: 6/13/2024 9:52:54 AMSuch as? Is there some documentation somewhere with strict MMO requirements? And even then, it's being marketed to players as MMO - no matter what anybody thinks about it. So it wasn't even hidden.

https://medium.com/@sunrisebybooks/is-destiny-2-truly-an-mmo-unpacking-the-label-ca4a560c6157 You have to first understand what an MMO is. In short Destiny has MMO elements but falls short of certain other aspects. They have adapted the MMO tag because it's good for business and they use it to try and tap into another pool of potential players. When I load up into the tower you can see a decent amount of players or it could be bone dry. With an MMO this isn't the case. When I walk around the Pale Heart I don't see another living soul but with an MMO it should be full if people doing stuff. Even Diablo IV for example is not an MMO even though it also has MMO elements. Just because a game adopts certain MMO features DOESN'T immediately make it an MMO. People simply call it an MMO because it's easier.

-
You answered your own question. They PROVIDE but it isn't the core mechanic of the game.
-
(Mostly) single-player campaign is core-mechanic of FF14. Saying mostly, since you still need to do some encounters with other players.
-
I've never played FF14 but based on what I've heard most content is multiplayer focused. But that you can complete the campaign mostly solo doesn't discount it as an MMO. Destiny uses elements to try and cater to as much people as possible. But whether or not Destiny is an MMO isn't the issue. The issue is that they locked a hyped up new feature coming with a paid expansion behind a forced 2-player activity that requires a lot of communication. It doesn't make much sense. I get it from a lore perspective but not from a gameplay perspective.

Bearbeitet von Anzaman: 6/13/2024 10:43:39 AMFair enough - but even if Destiny 2 wouldn't meet technical requirements for some blog-post talking about MMO's. It was still advertised and sold to players as MMO, so players knew where they were going into. -- As for FF14 - you have the MSQ (Main Story Quest) that spans through basegame and all expansions, it's all linked. And other than dungeons and boss fights, you do it solo. You also have ton of side-content that is done by yourself, one of the latest activities being Island that you build up and farm stuff and animals there - zero interaction with other players.

Bearbeitet von Vypur: 6/13/2024 10:56:04 AMBungie never sold or advertised destiny or destiny 2 as an mmo. Your platform sold it as an mmo, and they were wrong. On top of the fact bungie themselves have publicly stated destiny is not an mmo or an mmorpg.
-
Bearbeitet von Anzaman: 6/13/2024 10:58:41 AMSo Steam nowadays is also making Store Pages for you? Writing all the text, providing images, GIF's and videos while at it? Bungie might want to get that corrected then, given that Store Page says so, Wikipedia labels it as MMO and user tags show it as MMO.
-
Bearbeitet von Vypur: 6/13/2024 11:07:20 AMNot only have i but also the other person above you gave you clear examples of why destiny isnt an mmo and how its a misnomer for marketing purposes for platforms to sell it to different player demgraphics. Anyone can add information to wikipedia 🤦. Yes steam, xbox and playstation make their own advertisement and marketing images, you do know that right? They can also write whatever they want in their description sections. Send me a link on any of bungies websites where it states destiny 2 is an mmo. There isnt any, bc it isnt one. THEY have said this on multiple occasions publicly.

Just a quick note. The reason why the term MMO is used is for marketing purposes. I've mentioned this before. What is the best way to sell a game to as much people as possible? By trying to cater to as much people as possible. As long as your game has MMO elements you can use that term for marketing.
-
Well - as you say, it's being used for marketing. So players should then know it to be "MMO", even if only by name. Acting surprised that the game you purchased, being marketed as MMO, having MMO elements in it, is kinda odd.
-
People aren't surprised about the MMO elements. People are annoyed that forced multiplayer is being pushed in a game that is mostly about OPTIONAL multiplayer. Bungie could easily evaded this entire discussion by simply making it a mission that is able to be solo'd but included the option for multiplayer. Nobody would have complained and those that love the mission would still enjoy it.
-
Yeah and you know who pushed that? Mark Noseworthy, who himself said "we are going to accept the action mmo LABEL although destiny 2 doesn't meet all of the mmo criteria. It's just easier for everyone to say." As in its not an mmo just a label i.e. marketing term. (And the developers at bungie dont know their heads from their asses lol)
