I guess… hipfire kills are just for cleanup. It’s around a 1.4s TTK, but it’s basically guaranteed. The real money is in the ads which after about 0.5s of charge can delete someone with just 3 crits. Why I don’t think it’s op is that all this is locked behind a charge mechanic that requires you to maintain line of sight. It’s not like a fusion where you can peak at the last second. Without these bonuses, it’s the worst sidearm in the game. It’s a lot like Jotunn but for small maps. Great for deleting lower skill players or distracted people, but not good for 1v1s in something like trials or comp. (Where most balance changes are focused now)
-
if you maintain line of sight, that -blam!- tracks more than jotunn.
-
Yep, and it has a full second charge time where you need to spend a majority of it in line of sight and within about 15-18m. Devil’s Ruin is so good because you can spend a majority of that time behind cover just like a standard fusion rifle.
-
it's fine due to how poorly it handles + it's a rapid fire so lower base damage. If any sidearm needs a nerf it's Devil's Ruin
-
devils isn't that hard to counter. you actually have to aim with that weapon
-
not aiming with FW makes it way worse in my experience. The hip fire base tracking isn't great, and it takes too long for the balls to land and get a kill, plus they don't hit very hard individually. But my argument wasn't that Devil's Ruin is OP, just that it's a very powerful mini fusion rifle and can be a menace in the hands of a player that knows how to properly use it. You don't need 100% accuracy to secure a kill (though neither does FW), and can easily shutdown anyone, including supers (which I guess FW can do with headshots, but you need to keep line of sight longer)
-
arent you supposed to hip fire and ads at the last moment?
-
don't think so, since either firing mode seems to have a very defined purpose, hence the "pick your poison" perk. ADS kills really fast (excluding the charge time), but is entirely dependent on the users ability to aim well, while Hip Fire kills slower but tracks for you and is easier for enemies to avoid

Devils already got nerfed

It's not hard to prefire lanes or corners for an easy OHK, then you can use it as a normal 300 sidearm when you need, which are quite powerful in the sandbox right now. Oh and I forgot to mention it has infinite ammo, so infinite forgiveness. I'm not even great at PvP and I can easily abuse this, so in the hands of higher skilled cheesers, I know it's busted. I wouldn't want a nerf to charge time or a kill requirement, as that would ruin it for PvE, but maybe shorten the burst length (unload time) and range and make 100% accuracy required for a kill. If you miss, you can always hotswap, which is what people already do with cheese weapons. For PvE just give it a damage buff

Or just revert the changes (Except the special change) they did and either 1. Make checkmate a side mode again or 2. Work on making it balanced. They launched it in a very incomplete state with many issues especially on the balance side which has made this even more unbalanced than pre-change pvp.
