I played this mode for the first time last night. It took my buddy the entire match to explain to me how it even worked, but he had plenty of time because the match lasted 13 minutes. The very next match was countdown again. After another 12 minute match of confusion and extremely convoluted objectives, my friends and I had already had more than enough of this mode.
When I think of a competitive mode of anything, I imagine a straightforward contest of pure skill and a player's demonstration of their mastery of the core mechanics of the activity.
A good example is runners in a 100m dash. It would seem very silly to include a mud pit and zip line in such a race. This would greatly detract from the skills being demonstrated. These would seem more at home on an obstacle course, since that is not a demonstration of pure running speed.
For the same reason rift was an unwelcome addition to the competitive mode, countdown seems even worse. The matches are too long, and if I had to include one or the other, at least rift matches are faster.
Please remove countdown from competitive mode. It doesn't belong there.

2 AntwortenIt’s pretty simple, if it took you a whole match to understand its either: the person explaining it to you is doing a poor job, or you just don’t understand simple instructions.

Rift wasn't a bad addition. Neither is Countdown. Rift at it's core, is a COMPETITIVE game mode. It's basically American Football or Soccer or for the rest of the world Football. It's essentially the same thing and is pretty spot on. Countdown is basically Search and Destroy from Call of Duty.

10 AntwortenPlaying the objective is a skill. Holding territory, maintaining command of a zone. The idea that things like countdown are a gimmick is a very call of duty-esque mindset. Most pvp games function around an objective. It forces an end to stalemates, and at the end of the day, it still relies on your ability to get kills. If you can't kill anybody, you lose control of the objective. Siege, counter-strike, overwatch, team fortress 2, halo, even destiny functions around objectives at a base level, it's just that in destiny the main objective mode is control, so people have gotten used to full on ignoring the objective.

Bearbeitet von Tis-but-a-scratch: 12/2/2023 10:49:53 PMGlad to hear others aren’t getting it either. I was completely lost. Thought I was doing the right thing several times just to find out I was doing it wrong….I guess Just to explain. There were times it would not allow me to set the bomb. But my team still won. There were times I set the bomb and it exploded and we lost.

2 AntwortenBungie: what was the name of that mode we made in year one? You know, the one that killed Trials and drove all the players away? Let’s bring that into comp! 😂. I love Bungie, but I have to finally admit, this PVP team is -blam!-. It feels like they are actively trying to make terrible choices.
-
It’s a little long, but it’s pretty fun.
-
I literally refuse to play it. If I wanted an adjective I'd play dungeon or a raid.
-
I actually like countdown. It needs a few adjustments, but I think it's better than rift
-
1 Antwortenhow is that possible? this mode take 3 seconds to explain, look , you get one point for set the bomb and make it explode, and you get one point for defusing it , you need 5 points, ez, very good mode

1 AntwortenBearbeitet von Grim: 12/2/2023 10:58:21 AMBro have you never played csgo its literally the same thing except more forgiving cause it lets you respawn and your deaths don't count towards your score. All you have to do is plant the bomb and protect it till it goes off but the difference with this and csgo is your both the terrorists because both sides have access to a bomb, its that simple. That being said if you have a bad team your already f**ked you just don't know it yet (just like every gamemode in this f**king game).
-
With all possible respect, you and your buddy must be pretty poor at communication if it took 12 minutes to grasp.
-
2 AntwortenIt took your friend a whole match to explain SnD? Countdown worse than 3v3 rift? Bro 😂🤣

It’s an OBJ mode no wonder no one likes it…… Everyone wants to click heads and be rewarded. I truly believe skill is map knowledge, objective skill, gamemode understanding, and accuracy/gunfights. Skill is not just Kd imo and a lot of people think it should be. You should be rewarded for outplaying your opponent not just being able to clicking their head. I think it should stay but that’s my opinion. I enjoy these gamemodes because it actually encourages the enemy team to push out of their spawn. Well and bubble are issues in any obj gamemode but that’s a totally different issue that’s needs to be discussed.

6 AntwortenBearbeitet von WAR: 12/2/2023 1:32:08 AM100% agree I don't understand why Bungie keeps trying to f****** push their objectives on everybody just literally survival only that's all we f****** want it's the same thing for trials nobody wants to do f****** capture the flag, that s*** feels worse than f****** Rift

1 AntwortenAgree, when I see the countdown I want to leave the match

Bearbeitet von A_mo: 12/1/2023 10:24:28 PMOne of the things that might keep comp where pvp players should (and could be blessed to!) really be experimenting with competitive pvp our way might be to quickly come up with a speedy time frame for Control to be put basically back where it was. On the node currently occupied by "checkmate control." The Shogun does not necessarily have to rely on any chess pieces. The bigger and stronger the Shogun the more you're going to look like the chess piece. And possibly feel like the chess piece if it pleases the Shogun. If the player population doesn't go up and a bigger larger Shogun shows up to put control back, the Shogun is probably going to leave a mark. And how big and bad that mark could be could be depending on how long you gambled with your transgressions a-gainst the Shogun. Once again I'm not. I just seen what can happen to people when the Shogun arrives.

1 AntwortenCompletely agree. As someone that hated Rift, I would 100% take Rift over Countdown if given the option. I like seeing Bungie try new things, but this should be its own separate game mode. It does not belong in a Competitive playlist. It's like Rift and Trials with extra steps. If you are going to add a Competitive mode, add Elimination or something similar.

2 Antwortenimo countdown is a fun game mode, but it should be something you need to choose as a separate gamemode from comp as there are a lot of people who hate it

Bearbeitet von A_mo: 12/1/2023 8:17:07 PMIt's really hard to say what should happen with countdown just from playing it. But I like it and there are people playing it like they like it. That's a mode with scores that should be acceptable to people relative to others a lot of the time but they look at them like "they should just be made closer by someone." Countdown had the reputation of being much slower, so some people may be very surprised. But it actually features a focused in 3v3 version of the real kinds of skills you need in destiny. It's also not going to be for everyone. Rift is just too subject to meta changes and character differences to go back into comp where it was roundly reviled for a while! All big decisions should be guided by the Shogun, or the Shogun team or what's left of it at this time, however. Rank has to have meaning and my alliegiance is to the Shogun unless otherwise threatened by bigger bosses. This is the best chance that real pvp has, and has to be blamed for taking the whole game down. Everyone should be deferring to the Shogun or Shogun team. Hopefully they are not scoundrellllllssss!
