Because they're GM levels of hard...
Yeah, the problem is this communy getting so lazy that they're literally going AFK and watching fake egirl thirst traps on tiktok while other people actually do the activity.

Wait, so you mean to tell me that some people just sit around and do anything but help, and reap the benefits of other's work? Gasp! I wonder if they do that at their job too? No, people are not like that.

Ran across a couple of players on Nessus last season while fishing and the glimmer mining event popped up. I tried standing between them and each siphon and even on top of it, since I wanted to get back to fishing, but they still started the longer heroic version anyway. Fine, I thought, they probably need the glimmer. I go off to the side and emote into a chair to sit it out. They proceed to run forward into the unloading skiff and kill adds as they spawn, neglecting the glimmer pile. They realize I'm not doing their work for them about 30 seconds before the event ends and I just laugh as they scramble back to the glimmer pile far too late.

There are usually patrols around. Or you could double down on some gunsmith bounties. There's ways to soften the blow of waiting.

And all of this is wasting a lot of time compared to sinking shards into rahool when necessary. This change was planned with malicious intent and shall just bind players for longer though heavily reducing the gameplay quality.

That does sound like something Bungie would do.
