The other day I got criticised for not being in a clan and not having an in-game title, two things I thought a little strange.
I’ll be honest, I’m 57, Autistic, ADHD, pretty shy, and I have had two strokes. My coordination and reflexes are crud, my jumping is more falling and I try not to inflict my sorry abilities n others if it can be helped…save for match-made in game stuff like strikes.
I’ve been in clans and had good times and bad. In some cases I’ve been the person letting the clan down and left, at other times the clans have folded or there’s been some internal strife that I don’t deal with well, and I’ve felt I had to leave.
But I get it, Destiny is a multiplayer game that requires team work…at times (and since I’m not great…a lot of patience, lol)
And titles? Never ever looked at the requirements to get one. I mean, I’ve seen players with them but also played strikes with players with them who are almost as bad as I am…which is an achievement in itself..so I’m not sure why titles are so important?
Are titles a true reflection of skill?
Do you feel better knowing you have got one?
Thoughts?

1 AntwortenThat's just not good sportsmanship. I got seals and I'm really proud of them, especially the raid/dungeon associated ones. I'm proud of them personally because, I feel like I was an underdog when I started playing, and nobody thought I could ever actually get good and achieve anything. But having virtual achievements in a virtual game we're supposed to be playing for fun isn't a good reason to disrespect on someone else. There's NO good reason to disrespect on someone else, period. We are all people first and foremost. The people who let seals get to their heads are narssasistic and delusional. Be proud that you aren't. You shouldn't be judged poorly on your "ability to game". That's ridiculous. They should be judged poorly for being disrespectful, especially over a video game. That isn't real life achievement. You survived everything you've been thru, THATS a REAL achievement. Don't ever apologize for being a person.

Titles, clans, guardian rank, raid clears, and many many many more things are tools people use to try to show how good they are when in reality it's not hard to get most things in this game. Ignore them.

You're 57 and still worried about what other people think of you? Anybody who would make fun of you for having a life outside of video games is probably a child or a real life loser. Titles are not an indicator of skill, don't let these no life hamsters get to you. Play at your leisure the way you want, I hope the future brings you a much more pleasant gaming experience.

Not everyone has titles or in an clan that person is wrong to shame someone for not even displaying their guardian status within the game.
-
1 AntwortenLmao what? I know you can't name and shame, but I really wish I could meet the brainlet that gave you crap for this. Sorry this happened to you.

2 AntwortenBearbeitet von A_mo: 8/28/2023 1:23:17 PMHere's the thing about "no-life" numbers and titles and such. No one that has those numbers really high really cares about how high other people's numbers are in general. So don't blame us if we make the numbers go high regardless of whether they are bedazzled or less prominent. For me after not playing for a long while and having all my numbers be low it's really not that noticable. That may also have something to do with knowing that I will have the time to make them high if I feel like it though. Definitely don't think any of it should be removed, especially because some of it is to help people. But those kinds of things shouldn't always feel like a requirement for everyone because that will just compound the effects of not having them for those who are just going to have various reasons why they don't get as much of those aspects done. Guardian ranks is still basically brand new so with stuff like that you can see why it's more prominent. The game should look inviting regardless of skill though. That's really going to be something where if you have the time or whatever to do it you're probably better off listening to the people that don't fit whatever reason. So what would a game that still gave rewards and commendations but did so in a less status based way look like for you?

1 AntwortenMy thoughts is that this is a video game and you should play it however the hell you want. Honestly, more power to you for not joining a clan or bothering with titles. A lot of people forget that games were made for people to enjoy them and as long as you enjoy the game and do your thing, nothing else really matters :)
-
1 AntwortenI would never criticize someone for that reason. But, I remember when I had no title, and I went for Harbinger. It was pretty hard, but I got it. Then I saw the Conqueror title, and it was rare back then. When I got that one, it was very satisfying. But if it’s not important to you, then who cares about whatever anybody thinks. Play your way, right? And if you want to do something but think you might have trouble, then post it in LFG, like “need help” or something like that, I or many others could join you and be happy to help. Some of us really like to help others.

1 AntwortenSome people will just do anything they can to make themselves feel better than you. Titles and things are ways you can prove what you have accomplished sure. But discrimination against people without one is just being a mean person.
-
1 AntwortenI think that it’s an unfair way to judge a player but it’s efficient in the sense that it minimizes what options they have to contend with. even though it probably isn’t actually better as it isolates outside potential and and prevents the growth of theirs and the entire community in the long run. I’m sorry that this has effected you in this way. I hope that your post changes some minds. Great post.

Screw them. Be proud of who you are! You bring your own unique perspective to the world and are valued for it. Just don’t let others sway that. Don’t let others make you question your character, f them. You’re awesome just the way you are.

4 AntwortenI guess the politically correct thing to say is that Titles don't matter. And in the grand scheme of things that's true. But that doesn't mean they are meaningless or worthless. Subjectively, they have exactly the value that you give them. And because this is a game, that applies to everything in it. The only thing that matters is how something effects your experience. Sure, you can get a lot of joy from just the gameplay, but I think most of us enjoy the game more when we're chasing something. Destiny is an aspirational game. What we're chasing varies greatly from person to person, but for a lot of people, Titles are something they choose to chase. It's just one way they make the game more fun for themselves. So for them, titles have meaning and value. Other people could care less. Neither attitude is right or wrong. The value that you choose to place on things like Titles and Guardian Rank is all that really matters. Do titles, kd, and Guardian Rank indicate a player's ability to play the game? Maybe. Some Titles amount to little more than participation trophies. Others require completing difficult content. If I see a player with a gilded Conqueror Title I feel pretty comfortable running a NF with them. I'd expect a Rank 10 player to be competent running any activity in the game. Does that mean a Rank 6 player couldn't be just as competent? Of course not. And none of those things indicate which person I'd rather play with. None of those things say anything about the kind of person they are. Criticizing someone for a fictional metric in a videogame is just childish and stupid. It says a lot more about them than you. I'd be stoked to play with you anytime.

2 AntwortenBearbeitet von Vael: 8/27/2023 6:02:19 AMI think that’s kinda sad this happened to you honestly. I haven’t rocked a clan or a title for over a year now and no one has ever said a thing to me. I get clan invites sometimes but i reject them all because finding a decent clan that actually wants to take the time to grind all modes of the game with each other and just chill and swap out fireteam members is rare. They exist and I’ve met them multiple times, but I guess my social anxiety just made me think I had to separate myself at one point or another.

Some titles do, like if you have Unbroken from a few seasons ago, chances are you are good at PvP, things like Rivensbane, which means you had to flawless Last Wish, also show some skill. But things like “Ghostwriter” are basically just completing some pretty easy event challenges.
-
They’re what I covet most. Getting one means you e done most everything there is in an activity. They also have difficulty scales from seasonal to pvp. You mostly see that talk in Nightfall GM posts (gilded) conqs only blah blah blah Some have more than one title and just pick a fav. I just rock reveler because you basically have to get 4 titles to unlock one. No matter what you have, it’ll never be enough to guarantee respect so I wouldn’t worry unless you desire the chase Potentially easy to get but not all of us have groups of our own
-
4 AntwortenTitles are meaningless and most don't require any actual skill
-
4 AntwortenI will only criticize you if you are in WARD clan.
-
1 AntwortenIt's really sad to see so many people have had bad experiences with clans. I've been really lucky because I was invited to one that has always been good to me. I'm sorry people were so rude to you.
-
1 AntwortenThe only title I wanted was Scallywag. Only because I enjoyed the pirate theme. I really don't care about them. And mostly don't bother to do them unless it happens organically. Guardian ranks, titles, etc. there just another form of bounties. Most of it's more grind than anything else. I don't really care about clans either. Just a free engram. Good luck out there.

1 AntwortenBearbeitet von Naughtius Maximus: 8/27/2023 12:21:02 PMSimilar boat and slightly older. I have autism and a Scottish accent so voice comms can be difficult, mainly for other people lol. I'm in a guild but don't do anything in guild, much prefer to play solo, use matchmaking and I understand why Bungie wants people to group hug all over the place but they should understand not everyone is programmed to look for this. If anything, that sort of thing makes me uncomfortable. I'm uncomfortable on voice comms, in public, in company, in social situations. I like this game, in the main, but want to play it my way and not feel pressured into groups and comms. Regarding titles. I got mine by default rather than by any deliberate effort. Lots of games have achievements whereby completing daft things gets you some award. I've never been a completionist in any game I've played, it doesn't make me want to play more but I know people who are like that and they go all out to get every acheivement. To me it's a slightly cynical way to get people to put more hours into a game.
-
2 AntwortenI wouldn’t worry about it play however you like, alternatively start your own clan for people like yourself. The majority of people whom criticise you have no real life so they come up with caustic comments to make themselves feel important
-
8 AntwortenHonestly I lfg for everything in this game and I’ve had guided 7 Conqs be completely clueless and play horribly in GM’s. I judge people the old fashioned way, by their season rank and guns. It’s honestly the fastest way.

1 AntwortenDestiny has a huge problem with toxic elites and bitter addicts… these people can be very mean, just try to ignore them and enjoy what you can :)
-
1 AntwortenBeing in a clan can be helpful, but by no means should be a reason to give someone grief. That's an odd one.... Titles are also just a personal preference, showing you've spent time doing specific things etc. People are weird and often look for reasons to complain or inflate their self views. Just do whatever makes you happy and ignore random people giving you attitude or unwanted opinions. Glad to see people offering help or to run with you. I would also, helping others complete stuff is fun and it's own reward.
