Getting better at PvP
Alright so a lot of the people on this forum that complain about trials struggle with PvP skill. I have a few methods that brought me from a negative KD player to top 500 and a 2.0+ in all seasonal playlists. Keep in mind, you don’t need to play all of these restrictions, these just helped me when I was trying to improve initially. If anyone else has any ideas that have given them results comment them.
Play rumble:
-The playlist helps with game awareness and gun skill if you play fast. You have to keep track of all of the people around you to avoid being third partied, and have to execute your kills quickly to win the game. Dying punishes you in this game-mode and the fast/awkward gunfights that FFA game-modes give you will help fix up your aim.
Stay away from the trials cheese class builds:
-Don’t let them kid you, running around invisible with a slug or with stasis isn’t a fun counter to apes and handcannons. They’re builds that negate gun skill. If you’re trying to improve, you want to use things that challenge you as a player, not load outs that do the work for you. Avoid perks that are always giving you free health regen (wormhusk, OEM) and damaging/weakening your opponents for free (Arcsouls, stasis turrets.)
The weapons you use:
-People are going to get mad at me for this one but, stay away from using bows, sidearms, fusions, ARs/SMGs, GLs and exotic HCs at first. Things like Ace, main ingredient, the bow swap combo, and smgs do not take a whole lot of gun skill to use. I added ARS to that list because they encourage pre firing and spraying are corners which won’t help train your reactions. Also, avoid getting too used to weapons like slugs. They’re really good right now, but don’t really fit into the sandbox well and will likely get nerfed. It will be hard to play as well when bungie brings them in. Some of my friends had the same issue after the revolker nerf.
Stick to lower AA handcannons, pulse rifles, snipers and PELLET shotguns to improve your gun skill. These weapons are the most aim oriented weapons available, and really punish you for missing or miss placing shots.
Another thing about the weapons, I have found that taking off the targeting mods on your helmet also helps when trying to train aim. Those targeting mods help with accuracy yes, but they give you an AA bump. Playing with the lower AA will also help you get better at aiming weapons in D2.
Lastly, welcome the opportunity to play better players. Being punished for bad moves is a good thing. Playing the top 2%-3%+ is ideal, the gun skill isn’t too crazy but they nail you for playing badly for the most part.

I honestly feel that pvp would feel better next week when all the new changes drop. I’m glad that they’re trying to make it more focused on gunplay, which is honestly how any fps should play

3 AntwortenThis is pretty good advice. It might come off as a little bit elitist but OP isn’t wrong. Players that work on their fundamentals and game sense will improve. In my circle the players that rely on cheesy things for their kills are generally the worst overall players. Movement is so important. You need to utilize your slide and jumps. Guns with high skill ceilings that compliment each other should be used. Lastly is attitude. Destiny has a very soft community that will easily throw blame at anything other than themselves. I used to be a big complainer. One thing that helped me was telling myself that other players are finding ways to succeed. So I looked at myself and ways that I need to improve. I took the time to understand the game better. The game came a lot easier and I’m now top 500 in a few playlists.

Make your way work. Find out what you need to do to make it work in less than optimal situations. Find out where it shines. Don't be the guy that changes stuff every time you die and blames the loadout. Instead, train your muscles and reactions to the point where that loadout is second nature. Once you do that, you'll be able to do the same with other loadouts faster and faster. This will be even faster if you stay away from things like near unlimited shatterdive builds and focus on gun oriented builds. That is what really helped me. With this I went from a 1.2 K/D in Trials in Season 12 to a 1.7 in Season 13 using Way of the Sharpshooter and Frostees. Put me in the top 1% for that season. And that was when it was very sweaty and stasis was just busted. Now I didn't really put that effort in after that. I did what I wanted to and I just wanted to go in to have some fun after work. But if I had continued that track I could be in an even better place I think.

8 Antwortenactually, a better option would be to master unusual gun types for pvp, most players panic and dont know how to properly fight people who pull out -blam!- like jotunn, ruinous effigy, arbalest and other underused guns like that its also why people get upset at certain new exotics in pvp, they throw them off because they don't fight anything besides shotgun+handcannon

Used to be in your shoes. And I've played against you as a player. You became hella of a solid player. But for the rest of yall I can strongly back up what he has to say because I did a lot of the same moves he did. If you get good with the most skilled weapons like a 140 and a shotgun, the cheese stuff will become way easier to use. Which then helps you really see how broken it is. People think I'm a bad player because of it. But to be fair I got better with the high skill gap weapons, which then makes the cheese so easy to use. Then you'll see how that other stuff is really unbalanced 😂

1 Antworten30k+ shotgun kills "Skill" Everything is cheese. People hate my bow plays and say it takes no skill but never take off stompees and shotty. Truth is everything has skill but nothing does. If your only goal is to win then use the cheesiest thing you can think of. If your goal is to get better then playing rumble/3v3 and challenging yourself works best. If you want to have fun... Good luck. Anyone can use a felwinters lie. A skillful player forces engagements with it. Anyone can bow swap. A good player makes hand cannon users have a run for their money. Ect ect. I just tell people to find something you enjoy and stick to that. There is reason why scrimmers have such a massive toxic ego, its that they have stuck with a build for so long. Just try your best to have fun and the wins will come. Forcing yourself to use a playstyle just turns you into a drone. Please be unique!

I disagree with the last part. If you aspire to be the absolute best at the game than sure seek out the top 2% players. Most people when seeking improvement want to see progress, they're never going to see that playing people significantly better than themselves.

I agree with some statements but but sidearms id say play with the abnormal ones along with AR's just because they have low aim assist and takes time and effort to be good with them in skillful play rather than prefire like you say as AR depending on gun can range like pulses or scouts

I’ve never played a single game of trials and accepted I’ll never earn a single trials weapon. I can’t expose myself to that with my lack of skill and current mental state.

[spoiler]I personally don't like the fact they increase aim assist/accuracy either, but I don't run them for that. I run them solely for the increase to ADS speed, and often wish that's all they did, costing less mod points as a result. Besides, they seem to be designed as the PvP equivalent to perks like ammo finder mods in PvE. I enjoy the pseudo-Snapshot they provide to any weapon, especially on low Handling ones. Though I still appreciate it on those with inherently high Handling as well. And whenever I don't have them on after being used to them, I'll overaim/underaim on a noticeably higher frequency when lining up a shot going into ADS than I'd mind, and vice-versa. So I see it as more of a matter of consistency at that point. Speaking of which, even something I think most would view as benign like Shotgun Targeting is important to me for either ADSing faster with a Slug (the rare times I use one) or a pellet Shotgun, especially those with Full Choke, to activate that tightened pellet-spread faster for a more accurate shot.[/spoiler]

1 AntwortenBeing an Aussie ( oi oi ), my connection is average at best and Bungie seems to think we're part of Asia-Pacific and constantly match us with players in South-East Asia and even further into Central-Asia... I can tell when we match with anyone above the equator as the names are all upside down. So having said that, it's really hard to improve when most matches have teleporting players, players not taking damage, enemy players spawning 10 feet behind you and being killed before your feet touch the ground while spawning in, by the same super that just killed you.

8 AntwortenHow do bows and sidearms prevent you from learning “gun skill”? I like using PotS, LM, Travelers Chosen, and Farewell, and never really felt held back, but I’m interested in your opinion. I’m not being argumentative, just genuinely curious. I use quotes because I don’t think I understand what you mean by “gun skill”.

I disagree with not using bows. Most bows suck sure. But If I was to say learn how to be precise, use Le Monarque. Aside from the poison effect it also teaches you how to place your shots. If you miss with a bow you lose. It's how I trained my aim and something I need to get back to I've lost my PvP edge badly lately. Bows (that measure up of which there's few) can also teach you patience when shooting. You can't panic or you miss. As for playing with lower AA weapons......that's a falsehood. As someone who disabled his AA I noticed how far less of an advantage I had without it. You lower your Aim Assist you handicap yourself big time. Destiny PvP you pretty much need the AA on both inputs or you'll miss more than hit and then you'll be at a worse state than if you kept it.

The best advice is just play more PvP. Personally don't think using bad loadout is the quickest way to improve. If a noob gets stomped they won't enjoy pvp. Quickest way to improve is to have fun and play more.

8 AntwortenPeople should also learn what is considered an advantageous engagement, and a disadvantageous engagement. Don’t peek if you’re anywhere under 100% health, and if you hit critical before your opponent, break away unless you have some kind if trick up your sleeve.

6 AntwortenI'm kinda in a werid spot when it comes to my skill. I play on last gen so I'm limited to 30fps and 72fov. A lot of the weapons you mentioned being easy such as slug shotguns and ace of spades aren't the easiest thing to use on last gen. I consider myself to be decent. My stats aren't that crazy. [spoiler]1.91 KD, 3.25 KDA[/spoiler] And I take a lot of tips to heart including the low aim assist one. A lot of what I know comes from watching good players such as Saywallahbruh (especially when it comes to my golden gun skill). I'm good with pulse rifles and actually most of my kills are with scouts. I can also shotgun decently. Sniping and handcannon use (not forgotten doesn't count, it's just a sawed off scout), could use some work. The lowest AA one I could find is Sturm at 50 (I don't have the catalyst). My awareness is generally very good in terms of reading the radar and all that. I really don't get to many kills with abilities (Gunslinger main). I went to the crucible subreddit and they recommended I start off with 120rpm handcannons for training to use them. Any tips you would add for me? I know you probably play on PC or M&K. I watched tons of guides and like to say I'm improving but some help wouldn't hurt. But I feel your pain. If it weren't for my poor performance in d2y1 I would easily be 2.0kd or more. My current seasonal kd is 2.49.
