I lent one of my friends my copy of the 5E rulebook and she actually wants to play...means I now have four friends in the same town who all want to run a campaign. Rejoice!
Question is...what sort of character to run? Always a good question, but especially now since it may actually a character I get to use...

1 AntwortenI was browsing memes earlier and there was a discussion about how to make an Eldritch Blast Machine Gun using Sorcery Points and Action Surges. The components are 2 levels of Warlock for Eldritch Blast and Invocations to make it hurt and push people away, 2 levels of Fighter for the Action Surge, and 3 levels of Sorcerer for the Quickened Spell meta magic that let's you cast an additional Eldritch Blast as a Bonus Action. Also at 5th Level Eldritch Blast gives you an additional Blast. So it goes: Action- Blast x2 Bonus - Blast x2 Action Surge - Blast x2 For 6d10+30 damage on turn.

3 AntwortenBearbeitet von SYKEVANDAL: 7/9/2021 3:17:10 PMCleric. Look up the “Crap Guide to D&D” by JoJoCat. No more explanation necessary once you do. Funniest thing I’ve seen since 2nd Edition. For the record, I’ve been playing D&D,…well,… since before AD&D 1st Ed. Played heavily in college (2nd Ed.), and then on-and-off through 3rd Ed. Introduced my daughter to D&D when 4th came out. Then played some 3.5 with friends. Now, I am running a Forgotten Realms Campaign for my daughter and her friends (all college grads - group of 5) with an expanded (homebrew) Lore and History in 5th Edition (with a little Pathfinder 2nd Ed. sprinkled in for flavor). Some of my original D&D characters are making appearances as key NPCs. What I did when I was requested to DM was to have everyone create the character they wanted to play, and then worked with them on what they wanted their background and motivations to be, then worked it all into the Campaign (over time of course). I think I’m having more fun now than I did when I was playing back in the day.

1 AntwortenCongrats!! Getting a solid consistent group together is hard. As for what character to use, beats me. I saw you were thinking of a paladin and I'm never really used the class myself, but they seem really fun to use. I don't know if it helps, but personally I like to add something random to my characters and then try to think of a good reason for it. I think it really helps add some dimension to your character. Example: I thought of a entire little backstory to justify why I randomly gave my monk knowledge of the giant language. It justified her understanding of a cantrip and her fondness of it, too.

1 AntwortenAs always, being the old grognard, I suggest using an OSR ruleset where the game is less about rules than rulings and characters are defined more by the players imagination than what's printed in a book. They're invariably cheaper to acquire (oftentimes free), easier to learn and combat (the longest and most tedious part of anything 3E and beyond) proceeds faster, slowing more gaming & story progression per table session.

1 AntwortenTalk to whoever is DMing and get some basic background about the campaign and world before you make a decision. That way you’re built into the narrative. And you DM will appreciate it.
