Gun Play in D2
I took a two year break from D2. I’ve played the game since D1 release. To this day, PvP is so irritating. Barely anything has changed.
My biggest concern is how almost every game you will see half the players (both enemy and my own) running around with shotguns. Slide, shotty, repeat. There is barely ANY kinetic gun play at all. The whole kill feed is secondary weapons. Sniping I’m not mad at because there’s more skill in lining up a head shot on a moving enemy. But pre firing on a slide with fusions and shotguns? Give me a break dude lmao. It’s almost laughable.
Why not have both secondary and power ammo on walls with a timer? Players load in with ammo for kinetic ammo and you simply pick up the rest from walls or whatever. This would encourage map control, teamwork and more thought while aggressively pushing fights.
Sure, it’s a quick and easy kill or two you’re giving up. But if your team controls the ammo, then you’ll get those kills back and more because you know for a fact the other team can’t counter it unless they fight from range.
Idk. Minus abilities, is this REALLY the PvP scene that people want? I find it so much more enjoyable to actually have GUN FIGHTS. Not sprinting around the map with a shotgun and sliding around corners and doors for a quick shot melee kill.
Maybe I’m the one that’s crazy. What do y’all think?
Edit: I really appreciate everyone’s input. Giving me a wider perspective of why things are the way they are and potential changes as well.
Also, thanks for keeping it non toxic. It’s cool where we can come together and talk about what we like and don’t like without freaking out. 👍🏻👍🏻

Hanging back and team shooting.....or mobbing up and rolling around the map like Sonic the Hedgehog and team shooting. The game has become so narrow. So poorly designed in PVP and so poorly tuned that there is LITERALLY no other way to play. If you try to force the issue and try to play any other way, you'll simply get rolled. Add to this shitshow the forced CBMM and the fact that most 6v6 matches these days are blowouts and mercies? The Crucible is a poor product....and many people have simply walked away from it. According to warmind.io, PVE is steaming along at a stable and reliable (for early in a new season) 1.2 million players per day....while PVP limps along and stuggles to draw 450k per day. Barely 1/3 of what PVE is drawing.

9 AntwortenD2 year 1 double primary, low ability spam, and *sigh* team shot meta was the most balanced I feel it ever was. Also no random rolls was HUGE. No longer would you die to a guy because he got a lucky roll with better perks. A guy kills you with *insert gun*? switch to said gun and...boom it’s now who can use it better. Looking back at it, it wasn’t bad but I can see why people didn’t like it.

I think if this happened last word would become meta because in primary battles that get closer in range right off the back it basically has a faster ttk than any primary right off the back and since shotguns wouldn’t be a thing to stop it because special is on walls on a timer then it would run more rampant. I’m not sympathetic to shotguns though, I really don’t enjoy using them or having them used on me.

Going into an engagement LOOKING to shotgun someone leaves you open af and you’ll probably go down trying. I pretty much exclusively use shotguns in PvP as specials, but it’s for situational use like someone is rushing you or a flank is entirely open. Trying to main with it will get you killed imo, but I’m sure SOMEONE can prove me wrong.

Except for the fact that we can use different sites to look at weapon usage and primaries make up a higher percentage of the kills.

Special ammo should be limited to what you spawn with or maybe from a box.

They slow the game down to an artificial, arbitrary timer, promote camping, punish people who use primaries and specials well together, and make steamrolling even more of a problem. Limit special drops to primary kills? Sure. Disable or limit scavenger mods? I'm game. Crates? God no.

1 AntwortenD2 Forsaken era had the best crucible in my opinion. Everything was balanced pretty well and abilities didn’t dominate as much as they did. People complained though and now powercreep has certainly taken its toll on this game.

Most of the maps currently in the game are close quarter maps, which provide players with very little incentive to utilize any other weapon aside from a hand cannon or shotgun. Destiny lacks it's own set of mid to long range maps similar to those in halo 2 and 3 that encourage players to engage on long range engagements.

3 AntwortenThere's a twofold problem in the Crucible right now when it's about gun-fights. First, there are way too many Special Ammo around, so many that someone can literally just play an entire Match by using Special Weapons only [i](Shotguns, Snipers, Fusion Rifles, Grenade Launchers)[/i]. Second, Special Weapons are incredible effective compared to Primaries and when combined with Abilities of a specific Class/Subclass, they become terrible. Stasis Titan with OmegaSlide Aspect + Shotgun, Flying Warlocks with Jotun, jumping Hunters with Grenade Launchers with remote detonation ecc. Since nerfing Special Weapons and Abilities would be: 1) bad, and 2) too complex to balance properly [i](knowing Bungie's PvP Team...)[/i], my opinion is that the best option is to reduce the quantity of Special Ammo in Crucible environment in order to make players to [b]THINK[/b] when actually use a Special Weapon and don't be free to abuse of their destructive power all the time long making Primaries useless and gun-fights almost inexistent.

I won't deny i use a shotgun pretty much religiously. But my load out often changes depending on the map and what the enemy team is using. I can't snipe for shit but I'll sometimes give it a try. Most of the time though I use messenger/last word with a shotgun or a grenade launcher if I'm feeling risky.

2 AntwortenWe need more people asking for a HALO style pvp 6v6 mode Guardians spawn in with the same 2 weapons (only AR, PR, sidearm, or sub machine gun) on random rotation Shotguns, snipers, GL, and heavy weapons spawn on the ground (just like halo) with limited ammo No supers UNLESS you claim the “power orb” that spawns somewhere on the map Destiny desperately needs a pvp mode that is fair, skilled, and not dominated by noob weapons Destiny is on Xbox gamepass, none of my friends will play destiny again because of how bad pvp is. Why would a new player even want to touch it? It’s 2021 this game NEEDS a kickass pvp to make real money and build a real community.

1 AntwortenThey did that in D1 and it was shit. It ruined Crucible back then and would do the same now. Change your load out if you can’t deal with apes. There’s some good primaries out there that will stop apes in their tracks.

Making special pickups is a good idea but people literally would not be able to run pvp without special spamming, the sad fact is most D pvp players have zero primary game and don't want to need to use them

Who doesn't want to run around with a one shot weapon...especially with how much special ammo you get? It's unfortunate but it is what it is.

2 AntwortenThe only true reason vanilla D2 sucked was because the ttk on all weapons was about 1.5-2 seconds long! Man that was an insane ttk. You could be out in the open, take a full mag and still be able to slide to cover with half your hp. The double kinetic was never an issue, everyone enjoyed using smg’s, scouts, auto rifles, pulse rifles, even hand cannons like the 180’s were viable. Look at all that variety? Not to mention bows weren’t even in the game at the time. Im telling you guys, the most balanced destiny truly was vanilla. All bungie had to do was reduce ttk across the board to what we have right now and the double primary would actually have worked. Specials ruin pvp, you guys really think stasis is the sole reason for pvp bit being good? Nope, there are a ton of one shots in the game. Specials are just as bad as stasis, one shots need true nerfs, how can bungie do that? Not allow scavenger perks on crucible so every special ammo pickup only grants one bullet or simply move all specials back to the heavy slot and let primaries shine again. Moving specials back to heavy means side arms and smg’s would replace shotguns, scouts and bows would replace snipers. Handcannons, pulse rifles and auto rifles will replace fusions. This is how bungie can fix the pvp experience. Stasis is not the only problem
