Chroma rush and gridskipper are the spiritual successors to epilogue and timepiece, just with a better perk selection.
They left in the most popular guns untouched.
I guess you can say Plug One replaces foil.
I never really saw people use these weapons in D1.
They just wanted to split the weapon list across activities, which is fine.

You never really saw Timepiece and Foil because until the re-hashed raid, both were rare RNG. You also got to remember that early D1 was plagued with sunsetting issues till Taken King, so they weren’t seen that often as well for that reason.

The fact that atheons epilogue was a 900 rpm auto, not 720 (which to be fair, smgs are 900s now) And the fact that we literally got a void machine gun, kinetic sniper, solar scout rifle in the last raid whereas the last time we even saw a good fusion rifle from a raid was, well, never, last time we saw a good pulse was last wish.. Whereas literally in VoG they had the best archetype for pulse rifles that almost doesnt exist at all, would literally be the most on meta pulse that everyone would want... nah, let's not bring that back with unique raid perks. Let's not bring back a raid fusion while reintroducing what's literally the best fusion rifle perk back into the game either while we're at it. Just because plug one and gridskipper exist doesnt mean timepiece and foil shouldnt exist. Diversity is important, and theyve literally already made these weapons before. Splitting the weapon list across activities is fine. What's not fine is blatantly removing guns from an old activity that would be useful in d2. Hell, look at it this way. We dont have an auto rifle, fusion, or pulse rifle WITH a unique raid perk at all in destiny 2 right now.

The two current raid fusions are rapid fire and adaptive. The void from garden and the arc from last wish. They both suck. There is no solar high impact frame in destiny right now. There is no reason PF was left out. If they claim it’s because of lack of use in D1, well that’s because it never dropped for anyone.
