Every time I suggest this you say it doesn’t fix the game’s problems, yet you never elaborate on those problems in such a way that actually shows how my suggestions don’t work.
Problem: Powercreep
Solution: Make pinnacles exotics and rebalance archetypes/perks if necessary.
Problem: Too much loot clogging drop streams.
Solution: Remove all loot from streams after its available for one or two years.
Problem: Players may elect to not grind new loot and keep using old guns if there are no power caps.
Solution: Only release new perks on new guns, thereby incentivizing players to step outside of their comfort zone and try new things by populating new activities for new loot.

You're never gonna get a concrete answer out of him. Just look at his replies to you. He only knows how to answer in metaphors. For all the posts people makes and ignores the inconvenient things he probably can't properly address. He's probably a troll so you shouldn't waste your time lol.

If I do somehow make him see the light then it’ll save us all a lot of time in the long run. ;)
Sorry, all out of salt.
Fair. Godspeed.

Kicks the can down the road. Just like Bungie has been doing before. Your suggestion just kicks the can down the road a shorter distances and delays when these same problems just re-occur.
-
How specifically? Under that system they are keeping the current number of guns available the same at any given time. That means they can regulate the economy. The only thing increasing is the number of guns moved to collections (which need a rework desperately). That is not kicking the can down the road, because there is no potential downside. New players don’t drown under massive loot streams, old players get to keep the stuff that separates them from the new little lights.
Sorry, all out of salt.
Because it doesn’t FIX the problem. You still have overpowered weapons in the game. You still have to have legendary weapons undergo power creep to remain relevant or lose loot drive if they don’t. The only way to fix the problem is to FIX the problem. Which is that you have to take power away from the player so you can keep giving them power to chase. Power creep isn’t the problem. It’s a symptom of the problem. You don’t extinguish a fire by blowing away the smoke.

Bearbeitet von Ghost Rider: 1/15/2021 6:02:56 PMYou patently ignored the part where I noted OP pinnacles were made exotics and all other legendaries were rebalanced by category and archetype. This is not blowing away smoke. This is putting out the fire. If there are no OP guns or perks and no overload of loot there is no reason to sunset gear. New perks, weapon models, and weapon audio provides incentive to grind them out. All problems solved with one fell swoop.
Sorry, all out of salt.
No. I’m explaining that it only delays power creep. Your not listening to the fact that the only long term solution is exactly what Bungie did. What every loot game developer does.
-
Explain to me how making pinnacles exotics, ensuring all weapons do not deviate from another statistically except by their perk rolls, and ensuring that perks and perk pools are balanced across all weapons would still lead to power creep. Like I said, you keep saying that sunsetting is the only solution, but you don’t actually defend that with examples. I’m giving you concrete arguments as to why my ideas would work. Rebutting them with, “Every other game does it.” shows nothing but a lack of creativity on your part. This is not to say sunsetting won’t do what it’s intended to (it will), but that it is not the best solution most equitable to all players.
Sorry, all out of salt.
The answer doesn’t change. This isn’t about examples. It’s that you aren’t willing to accept the principle that is at work. If you take pure water and cool it to 32 F/ 0 C.... it going to freeze. Now you can change that by dissolving salt into it. The salt delays freezing (freezing point depression) by interfering with water crystals forming. But if you continue to cool the salt water to 0 F...the salt water will freeze. Salt or no salt. You want to add salt to the water to prevent it from freezing, when the long term solution is to HEAT THE WATER. Sunsetting heats the water. But it requires taking power away from the player. You want to add salt to the water to break up the ice that was in the game two years ago, but don’t want to deal with the PLAYER PSYCHOLOGY (chasing after power) that is constantly driving down the temperature of the water. All you’ll do is delay when the water freezes. Because the player psychology can’t be changed. Running afoul of that psychology (no power to chase) nearly destroyed the game in vanilla D2.

There still is power to chase. That’s why the light level cap exists. You level select loot to up your game (literally and figuratively). That requires resources to be managed properly (I.E you have to choose what you take with you to the endgame).
Sorry, all out of salt.
Which is why it delays the problem. The game will simply recreate the power creep problem somewhere else. You have to address the actual problem, and your proposal doesn’t do that. It’s why I was able to predict Bungie would fail on DAY ONE. Everything they tried for five years had the same effect as what your suggesting. The problem kept coming back...and the game became more and more unmanageable each time.
