Beyond Light probably has one of(if not the best) story in the entire games lifespan, it's only rivaled by TTK
LET ME EXPLAIN :
The campaigns I mentioned have actual reasons to why they happened :
TTK had a WORLD ENDING threat that we had to deal with and the big baddy didn't just say "oh I want to take a s**t on the guardians lol". No, we killed his son so now Oryx wants revenge and if we don't deal with him, well, earth go bye bye
Beyond Light has the fallen trying to create a better future for themselves by discovering the darkness, since their current conditions are horrible. In that process, Eramis's hate for the traveler combined with the darkness created a desire to destroy humanity and the guardians. We have to stop her cause 1) We want to learn more about the darkness and 2)Again, LAST CITY GO BYE BYE. So both our guardian and the villain have reasons and motives to act
Let's examine Forsakens campaign. Although great, it's a bit lacking. Cayde dies so we must take revenge, but like, from our guardians perspective, cayde was just a funny hunter dude who annoyed Ikora and Zavala. Speaking from our characters perspective again, the only reason to kill Uldren is because WE just want to do it for pointless revenge(pointless revenge because OUR INGAME CHARACTER, not us in real life, doesn't really have big connection to cayde. He just helped us get aboard the dreadnaught and is the guy that says funny stuff on some strikes and missions). Uldren doesn't really pose a threat to the city or traveler, he's just some awoken gone mad that want's to bone his sister(and that's gross). Also he didn't kill cayde because he wanted to, he just did it cause cayde stood in his way. It would be way better if this story was about Zavala and Ikora(Probably the 2 people closest to cayde) acting or revenge, then it would make alot more sense(OR at the very least if your guardian was a hunter, then it would be more interesting).
So that's why I think Forsaken, although it was a REALLY GOOD campaign from the players perspective, it's a bit worse than the other two I mentioned cause motives are a bit lacking and we are the only one that want's pointless revenge
Red War comes close but the fact that we get our light back right away and speaker dies OFF SCREEN, WITHOUT FACE REVEAL, yeah that was kinda bad. But again, The Red Legion are CONQUERORS, they wanted to conquer earth and THEN Gaul became interested in the powers of the traveler. Our guardian has to kill Gaul to take back the last city(probably THE last safe place for humanity on the galaxy)that we lost cause we were not prepared for an all-out invasion. So again, nothing happens cause "me want revenge" or even worse, cause "lol some random robot and a guy that speaks to a white ball told you to do it(*cough cough* D1 vanilla campaign). There is a reason and both parties have their own motives
That's my opinion, BL has it's problems but at least the campaign is not one of them. Hopefully people can understand that at least
