Light level is not content
It's just an arbitrary number that determines whether the game is balanced or not.
So next time, when you release new content and up the arbitrary number cap, don't scale the campaign halfway up to that number cap. It makes for an experience that ranges from boring to frustrating as the campaign gets interspersed with grind-sections where you have to get 'the number' up because the next mission has a higher number assigned to it than you do.

I enjoy the grind a little bit more than stuffing things in my vault that I'll probably never use.

It's one of the key things that stops some players, like myself, from experimenting at whim with any previously earned piece of loot. Having 90+% of my inventory well below light, far too numerous to reinfuse, means we don't use and don't enjoy them. That's a too steep price for some dubious pseudo-content. It also offers a formidable barrier to entry for returning players. Ahhhm if there still are any at this point.

Having to grind power levels every 3 months is the video game equivalent of syphilis. The power/light level crap should have been scrapped years ago. Just give us a normal leveling system like every other game.

6 AntwortenIn my opinion, light level really shouldn't be a thing anymore. However, it will never be removed cause it's one of the only things in this game that acts like progression. The fact that people have to grind their asses off for 2 weeks just so they can attempt a day 1 raid is ridiculous. There are plenty of people who are skilled enough to do the raid, they just don't have the time it takes to get to 1230. There should seriously just be difficulty options. It's ridiculous.

There's no sustenance that can be derived from it. But once you start to eat it, you find yourself incapable of stopping. Despite its sameness throughout it all, you gorge yourself on it until you are completely disgusted and burnt out. It's honestly awful and boring. It's gross and chewy. It is objectively worse than how it used to be when it was fresh. Everyone knows. And there is no reversing it. It will only get more stale until it is inedible. So impossibly disgusting you can't help but avert your eyes, simply because your stomach does somersaults when looking at it. Finally, you get up and toss it out.

Without Power Level Bungie would try harder to design challenges, challenges around mechanics, abilities and weapons. The power of a Guardian would come from inside, from builds, tactics, and skill. Grind? When the grind would exist to get a strong weapon, a solid armor or a game changing ability, you would be way closer to a better game than grinding for a number like Power Level Bungie.

4 AntwortenSeriously! Running a new campaign for the first time is my favourite part of the game. It would be really nice to enjoy it with your moded armor/weapon builds instead of having to use a mishmash of shitty blue armor and weapons. It makes no sense lore wise. “Well i’m off to save the world again, I’ll throw all my epic weapons and armor in this broom closet before I go and pin my hopes on some random weapons I’ll probably find on the ground.”

Now it’s all gone. Edit: I’m referring to in d2. LL doesn’t seem to matter. In d1 you felt a difference when you were max light in a strike, felt like a god. And in a raid it felt good also (Despite those streamers complaining about the rates being too easy after running them a million times AND being max LL....clowns didn’t get it).

Understand your frustration, but you’re attacking a symptom, not the disease. The way Bungie structured the campaign is very commonly used in RPGs. What is not commonly used is Bungie gear-based—-and heavily RNG based—-progression system. The result is that when you have to level up a certain amount, there is no way to predict how long and how much effort it will require.

Bungie realised a while ago, that people burn through new content and complain there's nothing to do. Costs money and time to build big content. So just raise the power cap, it's what most people chase after, brag about and use in IB etc. Why put costly content in the game when you can just raise a number? Thing is, in theory, you should be slaying enemies of past content with such a high level, but you don't, do you? So power lvl means jack sh!t really. Obviously on this dlc they've made it more of a thing as OP has stated. But if lvl means nothing, your playing for hours chasing something For nothing!

38 AntwortenIt's actually an ingenious move by Bungie when you think about it. They don't have enough content to make a satisfyingly long enough campaign, but everyone can see that they're drawing it out when they do it like they did with Shadowkeep. You know, make you grind a bunch of gear in order to progress. Now there isn't a [i]literal[/i] barrier to entry, but it's so hard that you still have to grind anyway or take much longer to complete the missions if you go in under-leveled. AND this way they'll even be defended by the "git gud" brigade who think it is good game design to suddenly have massive difficulty spikes. Say what you will about Bungie, but what they lack in capability to actually release enough content they make up for in creativity when it comes to stretching out said content.

4 AntwortenPutting a fake and meaningless number in the game is the only way bungie can force players to stay invested in their game. Unlike any other game where a level has meaning and you actually can see your character get stronger destiny's level system is just a gating mechanic meant to slow a players progress in the game by artificially making the game last longer and increasing playtime

1050-1200 was to outlevel old weapons and armor and served no real purpose. 1200-1260 is what Bungie wants to be a pain.

The campaign doesn't require much of or even close to a grind to complete.

I actually enjoy levelling up. It makes almost everything I find useful for something. What I don’t like is the change in levelling after hitting 1200, followed by the pinnacle cap at 1250 -1260. Maybe it’s just me.

I'm not enjoying running through old content that is now "more challenging" because of the lack of any staying power our light level gains have as seasons change. Old strikes becoming more challenging simply because of this light level adjustment doesn't make them suddenly fun to play for the 6000th time. It's like a reset that takes away what you were grinding for and starts you back at square one with absolutely nothing to show for your previous efforts. This isn't how most games work. If new content is to be more challenging, it should be just that, NEW CONTENT. Not the same stale content to grind again, except now with the difficulty turned up a bit. After this season's short story/campaign, then what? Since there appears to be a lot of content on the cutting room floor, and not much added back on, I'm not yet seeing what exactly we will all have to look forward to for the next 3 months..... old content and a re-grind of useless light levels? Re-earning copies of reissued gear they decided to sunset?
