Frame Rate Dropping

Hi. I have been running D2 through Steam on my RoG Strix for 5 months without issue. Last week though my frame rate dropped through the floor, from running so smooth I had no reason to ever check the FPS, to instances where is goes from over 120 to below 20fps, making the game unplayable. Its does this in orbit, at the Tower, during gameplay - throughout, and continually. I have dropped the graphics into their lowest settings and am still getting the same results. I have updated all drivers and even the Windows build - still no solution. I have deleted the .xml file as suggested, no improvement. I am running a Strix model GL702ZC, Ryzen 7, 3000mhz processor, 16gig of RAM on Windows 10 build - 10.0.18362. Any help or suggestions would be greatly welcomed, else I'll have to dust off the PS4..! Thanks.

  • a couple of things to look into. the ryzen 3000 series cpu's required a bios/motherboard update a while back, make sure yours is up to date. and to prevent throttling on a laptop (as crisidelm said), look into a program called 'throttlestop'. my son has a acer predator with the same issue and after installing throttlestop and configuring it for his model, the throttling stopped and he no longer has the drops in frame rate that you describe.

  • As usual, with laptops the first thing to check out is possible overheating, that makes the CPU/GPU throttle down.

      • This happens to me on pc when my controller batteries get low. Change batteries and bam, everything goes back to normal.

      • Hey man, I've been having the same problem lately. It's always happened every now and then but the past couple weeks its been worse. One thing I've noticed is when I ALT-TAB to make an LFG post or use DIM, that's when my frames start dropping. The only fix I found was to relaunch the game whenever it happens. Hopefully bungie will fix this issue soon
