You can use it as a second tripmine, to close off another angle that besides your tripmine, and when it detonated or is shot you know someone’s there. It’s very useful for Survival if you’re hardscoping a door.

I don't find that to be true. The radius is so small and, just like tripmines, it is far too easy to see and avoid.

In small corridors like the Cauldron doors or the small passages along the sides of Endless Vale, they can still help quite a bit. And they are also great at dealing a little chunk of damage to get your tripmine back with Ahamkara Spine.
