5 AntwortenI represent the semi-conservative late-adolecent white males of offtopic, and according to the social contract I do not deserve to talk about being on the receiving end of racism in any fashion at any time. But damn it I’m gonna say it anyway. I’ve had people assume things I say have some racist subtext purely on the grounds that I’m white. Not fun. Also being white today seems like it puts you in this weird category where you’re not allowed to be supported for your white-ness, simply because of the myriad racist white people that have come before you, and because of all the other ethnicities that AREN’T white that need more respect than you do. Taking this out of context might make it seem entitled to an outside observer, so allow me to share the real context with you: love. As a Christian, I believe anyone and everyone is made in the image of God and that since He loves them unconditionally, so should we. The more people genuinely love each other, the better things will get. But what do I know, I’m just some punk white guy on the internet.

Racism is a belief system that infects individual factions of people to believe the others MUST be racist otherwise their(the system) wrong. Other people dont have to be racist... Neither do you. You have a choice, you're just not supposed to believe that you do, and if you do CHOOSE to not be racist. Be prepared. 1 AntwortenI have a racist and close-minded coworker (redundant, I know, but they are close minded and biased toward other cultures regardless of race in addition to being racist). The day after Christmas, she asked if a customer had a good Christmas. Very politely and with good cheer, one of our regular customers who has always been very nice said “well, Hanukkah actually, and yes it was great!” To which her face went to an RBF and she said flatly: “Hanukkah. Hm.” and stopped talking to him. After being silent while he was there, he was leaving and she said loudly: “Merry Christmas!” Whenever a non white person comes in, (my coworker is white) she is very short with them, and acts suspicious. Her whole demeanor changes. To white people she is very friendly and really nice, and it’s not just like, one day she’s good and one day she’s in a bad mood. White customer: very nice. Next customer is a person of color: very curt and short with them, speaking in a somewhat stern monotone. Next customer is white: super nice again. I can’t tell if she even notices she’s doing it, and it’s hard to think of a way to approach her and talk to her about being nice to everyone, not just white people.
