Outer Worlds is fun but short.

Any one else played it through? What do you do after finishing the game? Are there any cool weapons or anything? I’m playing back through killing everyone and everything to get some new enjoyment, but I’m wondering if there’s other forms of enjoyment.

  • It was alright but after playing through and beating the game once in the first week it was released I put it down and never went back in except for a quick 5-10 minute session to grab a quick achievement I'd missed that didn't require a fresh playthrough. Honestly I'm kinda disappointed with the game because while it was fun to play and I liked the mechanics, I never could get myself immersed in the game because the companions were just there and aside from the usual interactions I found myself not caring about who was in the party with me or not and wound up going solo for several sections of the game. The fact that you can't romance or form a bond with any of them was the main turnoff for why I stopped playing, really poor decision from Obsidian imo to intentionally leave the option out. Also thought the tinker options for upgrading guns/armor was a tad overpriced even when spec'ed 100 skill in tech or whatever the stat was that lowered the cost for tinkering but it also wasn't hard to farm bits either just running around killing marauders and selling off whatever loot they had on them.

    • It is somewhat short, more Fallout 3-ish (Fallout 3 in space) in time for me. There are quite a few things to do, but once it's done, like Fallout 3, there is an endgame summary that takes about 5 minutes telling the story of what happens to each of your companions based on the direction you took them. All in all it's worth playing. If you have Xbox Game Pass, it's easily one you need to download. If you don't, then choose what you wish. But if I recall correctly, there will be more content added later that occurs prior to you completing the last story line, so everything is still intact. I don't know when that is supposed to be coming out, but I'll be playing it when it does.

      • I still haven't fully finished it because the last sections (presumably anyway, there can't be much more where I'm at) keeps -blam!-ing crashing. I've kind of put finishing it on hold until a stability patch comes out.

          • I didn’t think it was too short. From memory it was about 20-30 hours if you do all the side quests. I think this is a good length for most single player games. I think most AAA games these days are way too long and bloated. These games with 80+ hour campaigns just become a chore to finish most the time. They are artificially padded with pointless boring side quests and repetitive open world filler (like clearing forts 50 times or collecting 100 pointless objects or whatever). I’d take a streamlined well made 20 hour game over a bloated repetitive 100 hour game every time.

            • I think it's better this way. It kept my attention for the whole campaign and didn't feel boring at all I even wanted to do all the side quests to play it even more. Compared to Assassin's Greed Odyssey where the story lasts for a while but I kept getting bored with it, and there's no point in doing the side stuff since none of it really affects the end.

              • It really feels like a game from the old xbox days with a bit more polish. As in, it's short, the worlds are empty, the NPCs just stand around, and theres a loading screen like every five minutes. Enemy AI is dumb, lot of face rushing or taking cover in stupid positions. Stealth does not work. Some things they did worse than those old games though... the loot is terrible. Special gear has been worse than stuff I could mod. Companions are less talkative and kinda just hang around. The game feels very on rails, even for Obsidian. Even the things I like come with gripes! The customization is neat, not that I can ever see my character outside of the super dark menus. Also pissed me off that one of the very first buildings I saw was a barbershop THAT WOULDNT LET ME CHANGE MY HAIR. Characters are funny but like I said, your crew doesn't seem to talk as much. Idk, I've been sick for like a week though too so I might be a bit grump.
