Video shows man asking Mahud Villalaz why he ‘invaded’ the US before tossing acid from a container, causing second-degree burns
Milwaukee police have arrested a suspect who allegedly threw acid at a US citizen after telling him to “go back to [his] country”.
Mahud Villalaz suffered second-degree burns to his face after a man threw acid from a container in front of a restaurant on Friday night, in a predominantly Latino part of Milwaukee.
Surveillance video showed a hooded man pointing at Villalaz, who was raised in Peru, before throwing the liquid. Villalaz stumbled away from the man, who police said is white.
Speaking outside the hospital where he was treated, Villalaz told local news channel WISN 12 the incident began as a parking dispute and escalated when the other man accused him of being “illegal” and asked him why he had “invaded” the US. The man then tossed the acid.
“The feeling was burning, and I was trying to defend myself but I couldn’t because I couldn’t open my eyes,” Villalaz said.
The president of local advocacy group Forward Latino, Darryl Morin, told the Milwaukee Independent police were investigating the attack as a hate crime.
“I don’t see how it could be anything else, as this is sadly and tragically a textbook case of hate,” Morin said. “I dare say it was premeditated, because no one walks around with a bottle of acid and hangs out in a predominantly Latino neighborhood for no reason.”
In late 2018, the FBI released data which showed hate crimes in the US rose by 17% in 2017, the third straight annual increase. Many incidents go unreported and not all regions supply hate crime data to the federal agency.
Some experts have said there is a link between political rhetoric and hate crimes. The comments Villalaz said his attacker made paralleled rhetoric from Donald Trump, who regularly disparages immigrants and downplays the destructive impact of white nationalism.
In July, the president was widely condemned after telling a group of four congresswomen, all US citizens, to “go back” to the countries they came from. Three were born in the US.
Since May 2018, Trump’s re-election campaign has run 2,200 ads which mention the word “invasion” while referring to immigrants at the southern border, according to the Associated Press.

But somehow this is Trump's fault....
Some experts have said there is a link between political rhetoric and hate crimes. Can't write a story without bringing up Trump....

1 AntwortenI read “acid”, and thought of drugs. I was going to applaud the guy and then I read the article 😆

Good.
I'm referring to the arrest, not the acid attack
2 AntwortenBoth are in the wrong. Illegal border crossing is bad. Throwing acid is also bad. End of story.

If Trump didn't expressly say, "go thrown acid on illegal immigrants," Trump is not responsible for the attack, end of story. The 60 year old crazy lune is responsible for the attack. You should not be held accountable on how words you say affect crazy people. What if I threw acid on a Trump supporter because of what this new's article said? Would it be the article's fault? Should they stop posing articles like the one that inspired me because it inspired me? No. To attribute this to Trump is weak and honestly, quite pathetic

4 AntwortenAcid attack? Definitely a leftist false flag attack orchestrated by the Clinton’s. If it TRULY was a rightey behind the attack, illegal have a nice cluster of 5.56 holes in his chest. Good effort though.

2 AntwortenIllegal US citizen? I dont think thats how it works...

I hope the victim recovers quickly and I hope the justice system throws the book at the criminal that assaulted him. I have no sympathy for the criminal in any way, and hope that justice is served. I also do understand how the victim feels though, because I've been on the receiving end of the "go back to the country where you came from" phrase quite a bit since Trump got elected, and I'm a US citizen that was born and raised in the States.

3 AntwortenBearbeitet von One Shot Ted: 11/5/2019 3:13:12 PMLet me preface this by saying that I lean more left than right politically, and the man's actions are not acceptable.
For those wondering, my place on the political compass is a bit to the right of Mohandas Ghandi, feel free to look it up.
Now, let's get something straight: Putting quotation marks around the word "illegal" to imply that he actually has a right to be here is just stupid. If he did not cross the border legally and get government approval to live in the United States, he is illegal and is not granted citizenship. By definition, he isn't a citizen at all. While Dipshit Trump's whole campaign against the Mexican immigrant "crisis" (there is no crisis) is asinine, it would be just as stupid to say that nobody that crossed the border is guilty. Both sides take the situation and blow it out of proportion. Illegal immigrants are a real thing, and legal procces should be applied to them. The correct solution (legally, not necessarily morally) is to make them apply for legal citizenship and follow the process that all immigrants are required to follow. If they fail to do so, return them to their country of origin. The solution is not to throw acid at them, shoot/injure/maim them, etc. Those are more severe crimes than the ones people are "punishing" the illegals for. By their own logic, people that perform such crimes against illegal immigrants should then have even more brutal crimes inflicted on them. Obviously, such a system would just create an endless loop of crime. You can't stop criminals by becoming criminals, it defeats the purpose. Anyways, I went off on a bit of a tangent, but the main idea should still be pretty clear: Illegal immigrants are criminals. Those that punish them outside of due process of law are also criminals. Both groups of people should be put on trial and sentenced accordingly. Neither group is in the "right." Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

The fear of displacement is real. But only affects poor people right now. Right now....
