Humans are animals, same as all other animals. But humans give themselves rights and proper treatment. Right treatment is even human centric as it's called "being humane", although that word is sometimes used as a justification for killing other animal friends.
So I ask you all: why should a human be allowed to kill a dog, cat, or crocodile with impunity? Why shouldn't animals be afforded the same right to life and happiness as humans? Humans treat animals like their slaves and inferiors, and it doesn't make sense to me.

Basically if the law says you don’t have rights - then you don’t have rights. This applies to animals and humans. For example women for the vast majority of human history haven’t had the same legal or voting rights as men. That only changed about a hundred years ago. There’s no such thing as innate rights. Rights are only granted by law. However if you’re trying to argue about whether animals should be granted rights I would say in some cases they should be granted limited ones. For example chimps are highly intelligent animals. They should be granted limited rights I think. It should also be illegal to mistreat or torture animals. But as far as full blown human rights - I think that’s completely impractical.
