Got another homework assignment, so here I am to consult and converse with you all(unlikely) once again.
The prompt this time is to: discuss the existence of God(from the Bible). Not why he does what he does(if he does) but purely his existence.
Post your viewpoint below!

God, to me, is an answer to humanity's question of "why are we here?". What is our purpose? Obviously we are above animals who only know how to eat, sleep, and procreate. We can think, we can build, we can do so many things that goes beyond nature. We should have a purpose for all this, right? Let me put a similar thought out there. Santa Claus, everyone's favorite fat guy in a red suit. Santa Claus, as everyone here knows or will know, doesn't actually exist. Santa does not travel the entire world delivering gifts to every good child, there is no workshop where all the toys are made in the north pole. No flying reindeer, and especially not one with a glowing red nose. We all learn this as we grow up. Yet, Saint Nicholas did exist, and he was the person that Santa Claus is based off of. So what gives? Where did the story of Santa Claus come from? Santa Claus is the manifestation of Christmas, more to the point of being generous to those around you. Being a good child will give you a gift you want, while being naughty only nets you coal. Treat those around you with love and kindness, that is the spirit of the holiday. Santa Claus is that manifestation of generosity, the culmination of how one should act to others. Much like how God is an answer to the purpose of humanity.

Look at how complex the human DNA genome is. If you unraveled one cell’s copy of your DNA, it would stretch for miles and miles. That’s just your DNA - let some how it is entirely unique. Also, every other species on Earth has their own DNA genome. Each trait provided to each species is for a very specific purpose. We have teeth to chew our food, stomach acid to digest it, and muscles to move it. Each and every part has a specific purpose. Now, evolutionists would say that these traits evolved over billions of years, with small increments here and there. First of all, just take the human being as an example. Each system in the human body relies on the other systems so much that without one, we would not be able to function. Also, how on earth does a central nervous system or endocrine system or respiratory system just evolve over time? There are multiple facets to each of these systems, each of which would destroy the system if it wasn’t present. So these systems and traits are designed with a purpose, right? But if we gained these traits through evolution, that’s like saying the code of a video game or security software could be written by a monkey banging on a keyboard. Sure, it’s theoretically possible, but every line of code is written with a purpose and design in mind. None of it is pointless. It is an insult to every engineer on Earth to suggest that their work could be copied by monkeys. But that’s exactly what evolution through natural selection is suggesting - we came about through random chance. So in my opinion, there is no possible, rational way that we came about randomly, and therefore, there must be a God. I personally believe it is the Christian God, but that’s a different conversation I don’t really want to have at this moment.

111 AntwortenBearbeitet von Disciple4Christ4: 3/22/2019 9:29:23 PMThe Bible says that God is clearly seen through His invisible attributes in creation. For example, just take a second and LOOK around you at the world, the complexity of everything and the natural order and and laws in the universe. Look at the stars and how vast they are, look at the complexity and genius in an ant, or inside the human body. I will not believe for a SECOND that all of this happened by chance. The odds are astronomical. There is a Creator, and He cares for us.

4 AntwortenI think our universe was created by a higher power. A lot of the conditions of the universe are too precise to have happened by accident. There are a lot of religious scientists for this reason. I don't believe that this higher power is benevolent. We're probably just part of some experiment or simulation or something. I have no proof for any of this though so I still label myself as agnostic. It's just the theory I think would be the most plausible.

Well three religions cheering for the same dude can’t be wrong. On the other hand... not really a follower of any of those teachings. Can’t really say my good man.

Bearbeitet von Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds: 3/24/2019 11:57:18 AMI see no reason to assume so because: - A lack of evidence - The omnipotence paradox - The problem of evil The best version of god that critical inquiry using logic and reason can seem to produce is an indifferent one that is not all powerful and that is of inexplicable origins. I see no good reason to concern myself with such a thing even if it does exist.

Why would an omnipotent entity care if I touch myself at night?

7 AntwortenThe Bible is GOD's Word. Everything thing written in the BIBLE is HisWords He told the people what to write down. He is the only real Author He does not lie. Secondly GOD ALMIGHTY is the only LIVING God. He is the Trinity which means He is GOD ALMIGHTY the Father, JESUS Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit He is 3 in 1 and lastly He doesn't need your belief to make Him alive.
but seriously, the existence of a god has not and probably won’t ever be proven or disproven
Bearbeitet von Aspect: 3/23/2019 11:46:20 PMif god was real, why would he have people starving on the streets? Why would he have war? Why would all this suffering exist? not denying the possiblitiy of a god, just questioning it.
-
I see it as that there IS some form of higher power, but not in the form that any religion thinks. It's far more complex

The education system would never ask these questions.

This is an excellent thread. I don’t believe in God, and have seen no evidence to make me believe that such a being or force or whatever you want to call it could exist. On the other hand, I find it both amusing and confusing that a literally infinite universe with trillions of planets, stars, and galaxies has evolved over billions of years for the explicit purpose of me typing uninformed nonsense about the existence or not of pan-dimensional omnipotent creationary entities into a hand-held computer on a Saturday evening whilst Mission Impossible Fallout plays in the background on my television... I think what I’m trying to say here is that whilst there is proven scientific evidence for just about everything on the planet Earth and beyond, the idea of one ethereal being having created all of this is only marginally less ridiculous than a fish climbing out of the water and growing legs however many billion years ago and evolving through recorded and unrecorded history just so that I could watch a Tom Cruise film in my underwear...

2 AntwortenWait what!? If you’re coming from a Biblical worldview it’s obvious there’s a God. I may have misunderstood the question but it seems straightforward to me.

6 AntwortenI came here expecting a shitpost, and I was pleasantly surprised. My viewpoint on it is this: both God and science are real. Scientists cannot explain the spontaneous nature of the Big Bang... this concurs perfectly with Genesis. The writers of the Bible (I’m pretty sure Moses wrote Genesis) could not have explained that themselves... I mean, it’s not like God dropped the Bible out of the heavens, it was written by humans. I am not attacking any other religion or belief, I am not attacking more traditional Christianity, and I am not attacking atheism. But my understanding of God is that He wrote the laws of the universe that we call science.

2 AntwortenIt's 1am here so I'll definitely phrase all of this poorly. A common question posed today about God is "Can God create something so heavy that even He can't lift it?" It's an interesting question, and I like Augustine's answer to it. A similar question was asked during his time: Does God have hair? Fingernails? If so, does it grow? Those questions from then and now set to define the physical existence of God. Augustine believed that God had no physical form. That, as a spirit God was infinite, and to have a physical manifestation would be an impossible limitation to his existence. Infinity bound limited by its limitless form, I suppose. Therefore, God's existence must be purely spiritual.

If I were to believe in a creator God (kinda mid way, not sure if It does or doesn't kinda thing) I'd say It created the Earth as a baseline, put some minimalist creatures there (the organisms that predated the Dinosaurs) and i'd say Evolution kinda just took things off from there, and over billions of years later here we are. In this scenario, "God" would've been the reason behind the Big Bang. Kinda going off on a tangent here, but what I really don't understand are the kind of people who think Creationism and Evolution are mutually exclusive. Like what about Creationism immediately discounts Evolution and Science? Also, what kinda school do you go to where this is the kinda homework they hand out? Just curious.

In my personal opinion I believe God does exist. I am firm in believing this but if you still want to argue just know my phone is slow to tell me when somebody replies so it might take an hour or so to respond.
ps. Auto correct sucks.
