Now Im not one to use CAPS to make a point but Im frustrated. Ive posted several times in regards to this quest step and none have gained any traction to be noticed. Maybe no one cares about the Mountaintop? Maybe its because the quest requirements are too much? I could believe either theory.
Grenade Launchers in PVP within your game SUCKKKKKKKK. Theres no polite way to put this im afraid. They are inconsistent. They are weak and the bouncing grenade archtype is silly and works when it feels like it. Proximity grenades are broken. The entire weapon type is not even close to the META. Its admirable that you guys decided to make a pinnacle weapon to perhaps boost the popularity of the weapon type or to mix it up but Its a damn shame you locked it behind the most uninspiring, laziest quest Ive ever come across in Destiny.
It is simply the most TEDIOUS grind I have EVER put myself through. 1% progress in Quickplay per FINAL BLOW Double Kill? No assists? Thats insulting. Yes I get that its a COMP pinnacle weapon but trying to obtain grenade launcher double kills in a competetive playlist wouldnt be kind to your Fireteam especially in a clutch scenario.
Now im not one to complain about the grind. I enjoy it in fact. One of the significant reasons I play Destiny to be fair. But this quest is not a grind. Its stupid. Id admit that it would be clever if it required a skill set to achieve but it doesnt. The inconsistent nature of ALL grenade launchers in your game ruin the required skill set and turn the achievement into a fluke or a streak of luck.
Is this step even possible without using a 2 or even 3 Grenade Launcher build? I mean, to accomplish regular double kills, it would be essential to include Lunafaction Boots with Rift or the Dodge ability or the Rally Barricade, all of which require impeccable timing of the 'Right Place/Right Time' and even then its down to luck. Too bad if your teammates got the final blow eh?
Honestly, so much hardwork into a weapon that so many more guardians could enjoy and maybe shift the META up a little but not until you adjust this quest step. Its ridiculous and surely you guys can see this.
I have achieved Fabled rank this season and Im currently at 56% double kills, mainly acquired through Quickplay. The amount of double kills I STILL need just does not motivate me to keep playing. Its having the reverse effect on me. Is this gun better than every Exotic in the game??? Then why is the quest so demanding? It took me a few hrs to get The Last Word but weeks and weeks to get a grenade launcher??? Wtf. Shouldnt getting to Fabled be the most difficult part of the quest? Easy fix, let assists count towards progress?
I cant wait to get this weapon. Im even looking forward to using it in PVE ffs. Im hoping its worth the time invested.
EDIT 1: Just an update on the above post. Im currently sitting about 20% from obtaining the Mountaintop. Since I posted the OP, Ive had a lot of support and advice from the community which is great but I did want to say that this quest is STILL the worst quest Ive ever played in Destiny. GL are in a pathetic state in this game and this quest points out VERY boldly how flawed and terrible this weapon type is. When I get the Mountaintop, I intend to dismantle every GL in my Inventory & Vault and vow never to use any of them ever again. This quest has broken me and crippled my passion for The Crucible. But, I still wont give up, I will get this weapon and will continue to throw shade at how poor the experience has been until Bungie take notice. Even after I obtain the weapon I will still bash this quest because it deserves it.

Edited OP with an update.

I hope they bring a sniper next season so you can whine about that quest.

4 AntwortenBearbeitet von shwabbywabby: 2/20/2019 3:15:33 PMI’ve got the Mountaintop so this no longer applies to me but I’ve got to say this is the most frustrating thing I’ve ever done in Destiny. If a new pinnacle weapon is brought out no way should the weapons you need to use get nerfed in that season and the Heavy ammo economy changed! It’s not like they were good before and especially if you compare them to something like a shotgun. But anyhow rant over and time for some advice and how I got it done. 1. Get on your Hunter and use marksman’s dodge. 2. Put on 5 super mods and use Shadowshot and the Rigs. If you can tether 2 or more opponents (which is a feet in itself) and kill 1 with a grenade launcher it counts as a double kill. If you get your Tether 3 times in a match and use a primary/secondary grenade launcher to get a double kill each time that’s + 1.5% a game. Add on any double kills from a Heavy grenade launcher and your making as good a progress as the quest allows. Side note. I don’t recommend Tether under normal circumstances because of how bad it is but it can help for this quest. 2. The Colony can be good but it depends on how clued up your opponents are and how open the map is. I found precision frame grenade launchers to be more consistent, especially on more open maps. 4. The Birthright is good but if your like me and love using TLW or Mida and don’t want to tank your KD then have a look in your collections for Truthteller. It’s not a god roll but it is solid, especially when paired with Tether and Marksman’s dodge. 5. Grenade launchers don’t work on all maps and it will just lead to frustration if your trying to use them all the time. Certain maps they are king though and then you should go all out. That Firebase map is a good example. Where heavy spawns in the corridor up top and most teams camp either end to try and get it. Use the Colony and flank to the left where the elevator is then tether the far wall where they are stood. I got 5-10% done in 1 match using this tactic. Another good map is that circular space station one, I can’t remember the name of. But it has plenty of tight door ways and choke points where teams bunch up together. Tether thought the doorway and just let loose with Colony.

3 AntwortenI’m working on that same quest, man. The only double kills I’ve gotten are mostly during control...spamming colony, if I can get heavy, at control zones...or getting behind a rally barricade and spamming fighting lion since it uses primary ammo

100% agree. I'm currently at 51% for double kills and 53% for calculated trajectory. By the time I get Mountaintop I'm probably going to hate grenade launchers to the degree that I'll never want to use one again.

I agree this is a ridiculous amount of double kills. I think it is best done in Comp before hitting a high rank. To be honest I cheesed this part in lockdown and that took 3 hours. To actually get it in qp would have taken me weeks. The weapon is actually a good PvE gun and very unique. I agree it’s kinda sad that so few players, especially pvp players, will actually get their hands on one.

I did it. Put in the work. Then you can enjoy it too

2 AntwortenBearbeitet von Christmas: 2/19/2019 9:25:57 PMInterestingly enough I agree with everyone here in on one though or another. But the one thing I would like to highlight is that these challenges should at then end of the day be fun. This challenge was horrible and bungie needs to stop making thing un fun

8 AntwortenThe double kills were the easiest part of the quest for me. Just use colony and camp heavy

2 AntwortenI used Bite of the Fox, Fighting Lion, and Play of the Game with sticky grenades on my hunter wearing Dragon's Shadow. Got it over 70% done during the course of my average week. Then switched to Militia's Birthright and got the remaining ~30% done in a couple days of QP. Mostly while solo queuing. You can do it. I believe in you.

2 AntwortenI got mountaintop at the end of December, and I mainly used a Militias birthright. Using three grenade launchers is unwise. Sometimes fun, but unwise. Roll a militias with ambitious assassin and it'll make it go a little faster. Camp heavy if you have to, I used an outrageous fortune with sticky grenades. They're grossly underrated in my opinion. It's a grind but it is worth it. I'd say mountaintop is the best one shot launcher in the game since they nerfed proxy nades AGAIN (ffs Bungie...) it's pretty good in pve now too, since they doubled ammo reserves. Decent dps with a lunafaction rift or rally barricade. Just keep at it, you'll probably be burnt out, but it'll be worth it if you enjoy grenade launchers. (Use an Icarus grip when you get it, too)
