Ever since D2 came out I have questioned the point of this expansion. Let's be honest here, D2 is not a full game, it's an over blown expansion of D1, that removed a good chunk of progress in terms of quality of life due to poor planning in regards to how and when this game was developed.
I am an app developer. Not a game developer, but one of the core ideas in development is usability. Making things function as intended, but also useful to the end user. Whether it is a shopping cart or a survey. Getting the user from point A to point B in the most efficient and useful way possible is always at the forefront of the development process. Are compromises necessary? Of course. But the user experience always has to come first.
Destiny has never been great at this, but at least in D1 there was some tangible improvements year after year.
D2? Far too many systems that simply do not feel as if they mesh. Be it the clunky inventory system or the repetitive activity structure. Most things in D2 "work", but they do not work well together.
Consider your character. You have a level. A power level. Then 3 core attributes(mobility, resilience, recovery). Which seemingly operate independently of one another. What does level 50 do for your overall power? Nothing. It's an arbitrary marker and a means of gaining access to early game activities and loot. Attributes? At max level, power and character, can you really feel the difference in general game play between 5 resilience and 9? I don't. Getting sniped in the Bergusia forge feels pretty much EXACTLY the same between setups, with my subclass skill tree seeming to make more(if ever so slight) of a difference.
Is Kill Clip THAT much more powerful than Rampage? Are .2 second TTK increments really the determining factor in gunfights? No. I being a shitty crucible player can seemingly take forever to kill someone with the exact same gun that always seems to 2 shot me when used by someone more skilled. So why bother? What will having top tier gear do for me, or players like me?
Nothing. Why? Because none of these systems seem to work in conjunction. So the incremental differences ultimately don't make any real difference other than on paper. Which brings me to the title of this post. Everything, and I mean everything just feels tedious.
You need gloves to hit max power? Welp, grind out your milestones and hope RNG doesn't give you weapons. You want to complete that crucible quest? Welp hope you get good teams, seeing as most quests are prohibitive when it comes to progress vs time spent. How does being 70% of the way towards Last Word feel, only to get three full stack ass whoopins in a row. Now you are back at zero progress...
Why? You want a fast reload? Here, let us gimp your range, or stability, or magazine. Again, why?
Grind, sure. But why? What is the point? Do these things ultimately make enough of a difference to be worth it? No, IMO, not really. And I think that is why a lot of players, average players, keep playing.
I have a group of friends who don't really pay attention to the minutia of D2. They use what they like and muddle through. They don't care about TTK, or which perk is better. They just play. And what they end up doing is playing the same 3 things week after week, chasing the arbitrary power cap, just to get there. They haven't even touched the forges. Are just unlocking their subclasses, and only play PvP for the milestone.
How is that a good thing? And why do they play that way?
Because there is no clear reason for them to play any other way. Why worry about stats when they aren't going to see any noticeable difference. Why run a 20 minute strike when all they are going to get is the same useless loot they get from doing a public event? Why spend 20 minutes when you can achieve the exact same results in 5?
Two new locations came with Forsaken. How many materials do you have from each? Yet week after week, "collect 25 of this" or "go into X lost sector". It's a waste. And it is, as I have stated in the past, poor design.
Bloated, poorly implemented design.
The fix? Make things meaningful. Period. Everything in the game should have a purpose. A means to obtain it, and use. EVERYTHING. From strikes and adventures, to your vault and the destination vendors. All of it should be meaningful. Not tossed in, only to be rendered useless or obsolete with every update.
The shooting is fun. That's it. That is why I still play. It's fun to shoot. Otherwise this game is terrible. remove the shooting mechanics and no one would be playing. Grinding out milestones week after week. dealing with the worst PvP system in the industry. No one.
Destiny used to be a hobby. Now it is a diversion. something I do to pass some time. But I don't care about level, or what I can and can't collect. Gone are the days where I hunted for things. Ironic, that we have a collection that I use for little more than a cheaper and more reliable means to gear.
Destiny 2 still sucks. And I don't really see that changing. But I also see the wasted potential, and still LOVE the shooting. So I still play. For now.
Cheers.

I have a question just for sake of discussion. Would you prefer the nearly endless grind and terrible RNG of D2 or the forever 29 of D1? For the sake of D1, let's ignore that D1 was a new IP as that allowed it a free pass. I will start off and say that D1 was more fun me and while we were limited by raid gear in D1 Y1. The times were some of the best for me and my friends as we all wanted that sweet elemental primary and exotic. Of course D1 year 1 had its faults. Did anyone suffer from the legendary engram coming out as a blue. A lot of my first legendaries screwed me like that at first, but at least the raids were fun.

Nailed it bro

The gunplay performs the best. The "minimal viable product" is solid. I agree with you though. Right now D2 is so boring. I haven't even done everything. There's still the quest for that exotic Black Armory sniper I haven't finished as well as the one for the Last Word. I just haven't been enjoying myself lately. Part of it being PvE is tedious and overly grindy and PvP is a big mess and not fun. Bungie needs to make adjustments to the PvE and PvP to bring players back.
-
There must be some irrational fear on Bungie's end that players will stop playing once all activity exclusive loot is obtained, but thats not true at all.
-
this forum title sums up the second step of the last word quest, this is why I playing this game is a boring mess because I endlessly grind the the second step of that quest #changelastwordquest

Destiny 2’s entire community in nutshell: “Oh let’s play competitive and blow each other for a -blam!-ing handcannon!” Or in pve “lets blow each other for a raid carry!”

Well put
-
You mean you dont want to load into leviathan raid 20 times just to get a weapon frame for the already way overly grinded out forge you just unlocked? Why not?

1 AntwortenLevelling sucks and content is really drawn out. For me, the issue is very shallow unimaginative quests, content, and an horrendous loot pool. It kicks you in the dik constantly, like waste 90 mins playing gambit that you hate, to get a reward in your current highest slot, and it's an item you've had 200 times before. Then spend 90 mins in crucible n the same happens again. This is my new account, n once I hit 570 my alts just get guns nonstop, I'm talking 95% guns, 100% from prime engrams (I had 13 from 13 this week) n made almost 0 progress. I'm still weeks away from the forge quests n the new dlc drops in 3 weeks. Highly doubt I'll buy anymore bungie stuff once Borderlands 3 drops

Destiny has been left behind by Bungie. They got that new mobile game and now some stupid website they want to work on. Couldn’t make D2 content on their own without help from 2 studios. Now they lose those studios and add more to their plate. Y3 will be another shallow annual pass so they can stretch a recycled retconned storyline. In preparation for a shallow D3 finale. The simple fact that the Travelers vision showed us the major plot developments, which jive with Ulan Tans theory of Symmetry and how to truly beat the Darkness, back in base 2 already tells us how the story ends.

1 AntwortenI feel like this has been very clearly demonstrated by bungie’s responsiveness to in game glitches and exploits. Often they respond quickly to bugs that would benefit player by reducing grind time, but will not address aspects that cause an increased grind. Even in d1 era. It took months to get xur to sell heavy ammo synth, but a day to adjust the exploit access to the SRL log on that vendor. A wild goose chase for sleeper stimulant (D1) and basketball court of oryx, despite lots of coverage, but three of coins is patched in a week. D2 is no different really. Niobe labs level 7, xp throttling, edge transit drop rates. Numerous things that weren’t addressed until unveiled or enough outrage. Yet prime engram farming (early nightfall exploit) was immediately dealt with, as was rat king glitch, which would have also sped up player progress. It’s unfortunate because the gameplay shooter mechanics are just SO satisfying, but it’s transparently clear that the value for this game from a business side is retention and playtime, which is achieved through throttling, RNG, and repetition.

2 AntwortenIve put a lot of time into the game. Became semi interested again when last word came back. Then apex legends happened. And I’m not saying destiny needs to go make a battle royal, but they need to do something cuz the current game is boring and grindy as all hell.
-
2 AntwortenFor me destiny 2 is just an addiction that am actually working to overcome Especially after the 6 months of frozen PvP Sandbox and obvious flaws of gambit
-
1 AntwortenLolol yeah the shooting, that's what we all say, and yes the game design /mechanics are broken, but honestly with D2 bungie was trying to build the equivalent of a bad casual mobile game on the pay to play basis. Then everyone left, bungie tried to back track for the streamers/hard core and made the game overly meta based and toooooooooooooooooo griiiiiiiiiinnnndddddyyyyyyyyyyy!

1 AntwortenWow, Wiccked I love this post. First off, thank you for taking the time to articulate yourself the way you did, this was a great read and it nailed every point. I think this is how a huge lot of us feel. The game has been exhausting, feels like we have been clocking in and out. It’s been weeks since I’ve played and sadly, have no desire to hop back in. Also, regarding your App proficiency, can I send you a private message regarding interest?

2 AntwortenI bet this post will mysteriously vanish overnight 😏

11 AntwortenIt's called LAZINESS. Bungie is the laziest company in the world. Apex Lengends was dope tonight and Anthem is less than 48 hours away.... Love trolling bungie because they suck.

Bearbeitet von FlyLoBetto: 2/13/2019 7:07:09 AMI quit for 4 months and just recentley started playing again because i want Breakneck. I really like Gambit if playing in a team with communication but other than that i really dont like much else in the game. Strikes just seem pointless and raids feel too elitist. I raided every raid every week in D1. Only did Leviathan in D2

2 AntwortenBearbeitet von TheReflafitator: 2/13/2019 8:27:36 AMI just logged in, looked at the event, saw that it revolved entirely around the Crucible, and then logged back out. What a -blam!-ing joke. An unfunny one. None of my friends play this game, they all abandoned it within a month of release and now they make fun of it whenever it's brought up. Even my friends who recently got the game for free don't want to -blam!-ing play it. They each played for like two hours and then uninstalled it. I have no reason to continue playing this game anymore, and haven't for quite a while. The fact that this event looks so absolutely brain numbingly boring and also the fact that this game has ran like RANCID ASS DIARRHEA SHIT ever since the Foreskin update, is making me terribly regret giving Bungie and Activision even a penny for this product. And the best part is there are no refunds. I'm so -blam!-ing pissed off right now. Ever since that update killed my performance I've felt like I've been robbed. That's probably why I keep bothering to play, it's the only way to get my money's worth now. They've made no attempts to fix whatever is causing the game to run like a slideshow at times. I hate to have to say this, but this single game has made me really grow to HATE Bungie.
-
1 AntwortenThe game is so tedious now I have tried loading it up to find that I can’t even be arsed to get out of orbit. It’s less effort to change the disk.

Bearbeitet von blade329: 2/13/2019 3:44:36 PMExcellent post. While I like Destiny 2, you are spot on. So much of this game just doesn't make sense. It's like a looter shooter pretending to be an RPG. The RPG side is so poorly done, that I have trouble even using the term. Leveling and progression are laughably bad and make little sense. It still boils my blood how Bungie had the gall to put "Become Legend" on their game box, while the game did everything it could to make you feel ordinary.
-
100% agree with you.
-
I think I'm about wrapped up with my posting... If they don't wake up, start making the game fun for all, if they don't start letting people play the way they want, if they don't open all activities up to everyone, if they're not able to remember what this game was meant to be and what was promised and deliver that... well... then they might as well scrap it and start on that new game they have in development (that we know nothing about) start fresh and let this one die.
-
Man I hope none of ya'll play Kingdom Hearts or any game along those lines. The resets in sequels would kill you.
