Let me make this clear, this isn't a PVP centric game

You might read the title and say some bs like "well it has pvp and competitive so why not..." I will address that shortly but first let me ask you something. Why out of every shooter on the market, all of which have PVP do you choose the loot shooter to be serious about pvp in? Seriously battlefield, CoD, Overwatch, everything else out as it comes to shooters is PVP based entirely. They don't have any serious PVE to focus on. Hell most of them barely have anything you could call a story anymore. All their eggs are in the pvp basket. Go there. Now let me ask you why do you think Trials hasn't returned? Why do you think custom games haven't been seriously expanded on to at least reach Halo 2 or 3 levels which are games Bungie made 10 plus years ago and had better custom games? Why do you think when a new expansion is coming they show a bunch of story stuff, a raid teaser, a strike or two, and then maybe show off a pvp map along with a new exotic weapon or a cool armor set they want you to see? It's because the game is and should be PVE centric. It should and always will be the focus. In fact if D3 leaks are to be believed pvp might be open World only. Something I wanted since the beginning. Stop banking on this games pvp. If that's seriously the "replayability" keeping you here you might as well quit. We have three different horde mode activities, 3 raids, 2 lairs, a dungeon and other things like the Whisper quest to replay. Not to mention strikes which I believe need some improving. PVP is a fun little side activity and that's it. They made competitive with hopes of Esports but that's a joke. It will always be a joke in a lootshooter game with inherent imbalance. Play it for fun. Don't take it so seriously and whine for nerfs. Edit: a lot of butthurt as expected. I never said remove pvp. I said stop complaining, you can't even agree on the changes. All of a sudden some of you want shotguns gone again. In case you forgot people hated the two primary system which was created because of pvp whining. Same with making many abilities, grenades, melee, recharge rates all weaker. Same with strong exotic weapons.

  • I want to point out that because of this... the game's PvE end game is weak. There is no reason to get a od roll weapon in PvE because the requirements of those weapons are not needed for the end game. You don't need much for the SotP. All you need is a thunderlord, a shotgun, and whisper for the final boss. The end game doesn't challenge the playerbase at all which most people then use their god rolls for PvP because that is all there is in the "end game" to go for god rolls. The game is missing a number of difficulty holes in the game. From the gap between strikes and the raid. To any difficult content requiring builds and a level of skill that pushes us to get better at the game while also getting better loadouts.

      It may not be PvP centric but its clear bungie likes to keep a hard focus on it as it's a very big secondary part of the game. It sucks how it unfluences pve and such, but bungie should have the ability to separate things but choose not to. From what I remember, their reasoning as to why they don't is because they want pve and PvP to feel as close to each other as possible, meaning they want striker to have the same duration and aoe in PvP as pve, so they balance it around both. Me personally, I have no issue with that because I play both sides of the game a good amount and it feeling different in both would be weird, but the patches that don't only affect PvP when in pve it doesn't even matter is where I do not like it. Their stupid design choices and lack of ability to create both a power fantasy AND a balanced PvP is pretty much their fault alone. They either over tune or undertune everything or sometimes don't touch things at all because of reasons. If Destiny didn't have PvP anymore, I pretty much wouldn't have much interest in the game anymore because besides raids and strikes, this game doesn't really do anything for me. The pve content is just so repetitive and usually tedious to increase playtime because they aren't fast at generating content that's good. PvP doesn't necessarily have to have all that much to make it less repetitive, but obviously their poor balancing does this. With their design choices to have a working PvP in a loot shooter, it's definitely still better than most other games that are pretty much only PvP centric. Like it's not even funny how true this can be. The part I like about the game being a hybrid though is acquiring that rare gear and being able to use it in PvP. It doesn't have to be good, but in pve there aren't really playstyles that the exotics affect and a lot of just general abilities can end up being bad as a whole due to their stupid enemy design in pve. But in PvP, there's more so things you can do with it because players will act differently than ai. I don't know though, if they just kept up with patching the game when it needs it with buffs, nerfs, etc, it probably wouldn't be as bad, but considering I've seen pve games with crappier balance than destiny...it honestly isn't really all bad. When I mean crappy balance, I mean when they create a character or class that can end up being worthless outside of a specific build or a specific character in general. The best example I can think of right now is something like the commando from borderlands 2. He's the gun character that does some of the lowest gun damage in the game, bad assault rifles, etc. His only saving grace is his turret which gets demolished in harder content.

    • So true pvp stifles creativity personality I believe they got rid of warlock selfres from d1 for pvp as so many enraged people complained about it even though a simple shotgun and melee killed it. Along with that the argument of that it allowed people avoid wipe mecanics in raids that’s not even possible now as after a wipe mechanic triggers now it forces light to fade take shuro chi for instance Titan banner shield can survive the wipe mechanic with banner up but light fades still. Anyways self res was a fun sub class and helped as a extra life and in the current area of the game that’s fine as that basically one extra res token at the cost of a super but I feel it was removed because they didn’t want pvp people to be screaming at them agin cause they didn’t know how to stop a self res with a simple shotgun melee combo.

    • The thing that pisses me off is that this game was advertised to be a PvE game back in D1. There were BARELY any mentions to Crucible at all. If they removed the Crucible, making the only PvP available in open world activities like OP said, and put more time and effort into PvE, this game would be 10x better imo. What really annoys me is that Bungie wants to focus on PvE, than on PvP, than on PvE, back and forth, back and forth, which leaves the game with these game modes that are so short and unfinished which is why half of it isn't really that fun.

    • I agree, and that is why Anthem will be much, better no PvP, you do not have to worry about the developers changing weapons or archetypes because it is to "OP" in PvP. I don't know why people even care about PvP in this game, none of this loot carries over to the next game, they often leave pinnacle weapons behind in the next big expansion. And there isn't even a MLG or Esports league because the PvP genre is to inconsistent, is it gonna take 2 or 3 head shots, well depends if the guy got a kill before or if he got lucky with roll drops... There should be casual PvP and Mayhem nothing else, Competitive draws toxic players as you see in every game, Overwatch, CoD, Fortnite, LoL.

    • Then why does the forums have a lot of people asking for nerfs, buffs, crucible balance changes, subclass balancing, and matchmaking changes everyday? I want to see more pve lore related stuff to read while a take a dump, but its mostly pvp related.
