I was just listening to “Easier to Run” by Linkin Park when the music brought back an old memory.
My brother and I bought a used Xbox (original) when we were quite young. We hadn’t yet developed a strong taste for what kind of music we liked. Petra was a bit of rock and roll, which I liked but had always wanted something harder.
Anyway, the original Xbox harddrive (when no disc was inserted) would hang out at the dashboard and let you browse files.
Well, we discovered one day a file placed there by somebody who had previously owned the console. The title was simply “ht”.
Inside the file contained an entire album’s worth of songs.
It’s style blew our socks off, so much so that I’d occasionally queue up the Xbox and listen to the music without playing anything.
Linkin Park ended up being my gateway band to my current taste in double-pedal Jesus Metal.

What kind of information have you found on used hard drives and / or consoles?

1 AntwortenMy older brother's PS1 and PS2 memory cards when he handed down his consoles to me. I liked seeing the kind of games he liked back in the day, my favorites were his save files on GTA 3 and San Andreas with save dates close to when the games originally came out and seeing how far he got. He never made it past Bomb Da Base Act II in GTA 3 (can't say I blame him, that mission can be a pain in the ass), so I'm determined to finish that old playthrough for him over 15 years later.

Pardon me if you’re old enough to have done this, but you would have gotten a kick out of the old rental days when saved were kept on the cartridge.

2 AntwortenI always loved never deleting old save files on the Gamecube memory cards. “One day” I thought “I’ll get those games, and see where the old owners were.” Ha, that never happened.
