It’s maxing out DPS and using classes to their max potential. If you consider that a cheese, please never play another MMO of any sort because everyone will hate you and I don’t want you to have to deal with that. Literally the entire point of games like this are to min max your character and use them to their fullest potential.
Now if you had to glitch something to get it to work, I’d say it’s definitely a cheese. But you don’t have to glitch anything. Just pump out enough DPS with the correct load out.
Edit: as per request I’m clearing something up. I don’t think destiny is a full blown mmo but it is an mmo lite.
Edit 2: to be clear, I consider a cheese anything that glitches the game in some way. For example, pushing atheon of the ledge is a cheese because you skip damage to him. Riven isn’t a cheese because you still have to do the damage to her. That’s just my opinion obviously

***** This post goes out to people like MesaSean's video that are crying because of the Riven Burn AND / OR the "it was designed to do the mechanics" crowd. If you have a woody for mechanics, go back to Leviathan. That was easily the worst raid ever!! **** People say this is a cheese. Well if this is a "cheese" then so was the 2 celestials / 4 non-celestials on Calus at the 335 power to 1 or 2 plate Calus. The way it is set up currently is that you can do either / or. That CHOICE is up to you and your team. Why consider changing that??? If you think this is a "cheese" and are hating on this strat, then dont do it in your fireteam. It really is that simple. If you get an LFG player into your team w a ton of clears already, boot them if all they know is the quick burn and you want to do symbols. It will force that player to learn both styles. But dont come on here and cry because others are not doing it the way YOU prefer. For the players I roll with, some are wanting to get into the raid. Unfortunately their real lives dictate that they cant invest the hours that some can to be 580+ for the end burn (can be done w less power btw). Now they dont complain about the power grind or the masterwork infusing. They just want to have fun. And if a Riven burn is fun for them, so be it. If doing the symbols is what they wanna do, so be it. Personally, I think it's perfect.

11 AntwortenMaxing out DPS and smartly utilizing buffs and debuffs to do astronomical damage isn’t a cheese. It’s playing smart. Going to orbit to despawn adds is a cheese, DDOSing Crota is a cheese, pushing Atheon/Templar is a cheese, despawning the bridge adds is a cheese. Maxing DPS isn’t a cheese. Work smarter, not harder. Do the job as quickly and efficiently as possible. If I’m cutting down a tree in my yard. My ax does 1 DPS. My chain saw does 100 DPS. Which should I use to complete the job quickly and efficiently???

If the first team through used this strat by mistake, we would not even be having this discussion. It would be considered the mechanic to use for that stage.
-
If you don't like the strategy go with another group and you can run around like idiots looking at symbols and shooting arms and all that dumb shit all you want
-
I agree that it's not a cheese, and you're right about using classes and load outs to their maximum potential. However, judging by Bungie's response it's pretty safe to say they didnt really intend for it to be able to cleared that way. What I think they should do is simply give Riven immunity during that phase after a certain health threshold is reached to prevent her from being downed that quickly. That way not much has to change overall and nothing needs to be nerfed.

9 AntwortenIts not an exploit but it is a cheese. Sharp cheddar to be exact. It's a method of completing the encounter in a way not intended by the designers. When they are working on a way to eliminate this method of killing riven, then you know it's wasn't intended to be completed this way.

Thank you, someone that understands dps stacks

15 AntwortenDoing something like stepping into the spot that teleports you to the top is a cheese, destroying the boss as quickly as possible using nothing but raw damage isn’t. In a strike the Warden Of Nothing, Inverted Spire, Arms Dealer, Corrupted, and plenty of others (Those are just the ones that I find easiest to pull of near instant kills) you can easily kill the boss the moment they spawn and never see the rest of the mechanics and phases of the fight. Is that a cheese? No, not really, you’re just pumping out more damage than the boss can handle. Sure, Bungie would probably prefer people to do the encounter properly and see the entire fight, but I’m sure the same can be said for seeing the boss actually move past it’s spawn point in Warden Of Nothing, or seeing the boss anywhere other than the first floor in the Inverted Spire, or seeing the boss use his shields in Arms Dealer, or seeing the stunningly beautiful second phase of the Corrupted boss. Just because there are other phases doesn’t mean you need to actually do them if you have the ability to kill a boss before they start.

5 AntwortenCan you explain the strat for me?
-
There's a lot going on during the cluster bomb strat to be called a cheese. Pushing Atheon off the map is a cheese. Unplugging your Ethernet cable to keep Crota down is a cheese.
-
I just call it a cheese to refer to it lol. I cant say it's a cheese due to fact that it's not exactly a special circumstance in which you have to do unintended things like pulling the ethernet cable from Crota or the bridges where you had to go above the kill area and outside the map. Or Atheon having the grenade fear and templar being pushed off as well with solar. Those are true cheeses because they took advantage of a glitch or the mechanics of the game to cheat. Riven on the other hand is more like a smart strategy. You dont need to pull a cord or back out or anything. All you need is high light and rockets and use the bluffs smart for melting point and well and in a way I can see why people think it's a cheese but it's really not because it's not breaking the actual laws within the encounter. Yes I know 3 people a room but unless the other 3 cant get to said room unless they find a way around the map and break the map kill barrier to get there to have 6 people then no it's not a cheese.
-
are people really saying that cluster bomb riven is a cheese? that’s actually pathetic
-
2 AntwortenI agree. Plus you have to be over 580 to be able to do it. If a team of 560's could do this strat then it would be a cheese
-
4 AntwortenIf my team has to wipe 10+ times until Riven shows up on the rocket side, then its clearly not intended. Sounds like a cheese to me.

8 AntwortenCheese or not, I think the real question is...
Who really cares about how others beat the raid?
-
It's a suuuuper easy raid (thanks to those hard workers who figured out mechanics) Why does anyone care if someone did it easily or super easily?
-
25 AntwortenCheese, no. But Im pretty sure that strat was not intended to be a thing and bungie will fix it. When this happens all the easy moders who cant do the fight as intended will be here bitching about it. I watched the raid completion percent go from .06-.3 (400% increase) overnight because of this. At least I can see this strat for what it is (a short cut for unskilled, lazy, prideless gamers). But this is just my personal opinion.

3 AntwortenThe path of least resistance is always the path that will be taken by most.. Why take more time and effort than necessary to accomplish the same goal.
-
True statement!....beware of the nerfs to our subclasses pending next update
-
6 AntwortenBut dont you have to abuse a 'joining allies' mechanic?
-
21 AntwortenIt isn't a cheese but it is hardly satisfactory when you have to use 0 brain cells to beat the boss of an entire raid. I have not done the cluster strategy yet (and yes I am appropriate P level for it) mainly because I enjoy the raid enough to play it as-intended.
-
Not a cheese but they are still gonna make it invalid soon...I wouldn't want to design a complex and difficult encounter with multiple floors and mechanics just for guardians to step in a room and pull the trigger button 7 times to kill the boss in 10 seconds...have my teams done it? Yeah, it's a strat and not a cheese like you said but I also welcome them making changes to force the legit way too...it's an important part of the experience imo and I haven't even gotten to attempt that because EVERY team wants to do cluster bombs lol...not hating on anyone, do it how you want as long as the method is available but I just want to do it legit at least once and it looks like I'll get to in the near future
-
3 AntwortenThis strategy isn't a cheese, but I would argue that shattering strike is not supposed to affect riven since melting point and tether don't.
-
Strike servitor in POE needs double the amount of health. Melting point and anything else will kill it in seconds. THAT is not a cheese. That Riven thing, thats r3tarded. Sorry. Not sorry. And I havent even done it because I dont care for this raid.
-
Doesn’t sound much more different than having everyone load heavy with their Ghorns and unloading to finish faster. Didn’t Bungie do something to limit that...oh that’s right a senseless nerf. Hopefully the “non-cheddar clusterbuck” doesn’t force some unnecessary nerfs on cluster rockets or power ammo in general. I haven’t even found a rocket launcher in Forsaken yet.
