Can I just ask what was the point of his death other than to get people to empty pockets? Cayde saved the franchise twice now and they do him in.
What for?
Was there a legit reason to kill him? Any repercussions. Simple answer really. No.
And the 'Vengeance' part of the DLC is a laugh.

Wasn't really a cash grab. It was done tastefully, for the most part, and effected a lot of characters. There's a void in the vanguard and tower, and actually developed characters. Ikora for example. It did have an impact on the current world and will have an impact on the future world. Trying to say that cayde's death is a cash crab grab is like saying killing cortana off in halo 4 was a cash grab.
-
2 AntwortenMost likely a cash grab. Well that and the fact that nathan didn't want to voice cayde anymore. That said they could have made a really good story out of it. They clearly didn't but the potential was there.
-
7 AntwortenHype to bring people back to spend more money. Nathan clearly didnt want Cayde to die, so he has no part of it. Even says he thinks Cayde might still be alive, but its very clear they've offed him for the sake of $$$$. There was no lead up. There was no foreshadowing. The story gained nothing from it other than a call for revenge, instead of you know... stopping Uldren simply from releasing a terrible evil? It turns Zevala into a little baby. It somehow forced the devs into a corner where they had to let streamers and their teams get away with exploits, and forcing the new raid to jump 30 light levels cutting off the vast majoraty of people who NORMALY take part in first day raid attempts, turning the "worlds first" into a Joke. Whole thing is a mess, and they didnt have to kill Cayde.

1 AntwortenIt was needed
-
IMHO it was necessary. Cayde was the most reckless of the Vanguard. Zavala and Ikora would have taken an more tactical or Intelligent approach respectively. Bungie needed a character to die and chose the best option.
-
4 AntwortenNecessary. Unfortunately. The mood of the game was getting to be like a bad imitation of a high school sports team rather than being part of an army at war. No one loses anything (we care about) so there was no sense of personal jeopardy or risk. Cayde’s death showed us how easily it can all go wrong, and you lose a Guardian permanently. A moment of reckless and bad luck.....and your done. It also makes it clear how much Nolan-bots anxious caution has played a role in our success and making sure there’s a safe way back whenever we die in action.

If they killed anyone else you wouldn't care.

Honestly, I feel it's both. For me the timing of the entire death was very coincidental to when bungie needed to bring people back the most. They wanted a hook and they got it. Cayde died and everyone came back. So yeah cash grab? I agree but also a last ditch effort to save the game. Story wise, I found it extremely cruel to the character how he died, cayde is very tragic, and he got more tragic being killed by the gun that he dedicated to his son (which now we arent sure is real) when he was down and no longer able to fight. Honestly, it could have stopped there and we would have probably gone into the tangled shore. It would have left us with a severely damaged cayde who had no light and a whole lot more development, to add he would not be able to continue working as the vanguard either, it could have gone even darker from there if that was their reasoning. But it's also clear that there was a lot of foreshadowing of his death. Still hard to see him go. My only hope is we still see some more of him in the lore.

1 AntwortenIn-game it is clearly handled as a avenue to explore the cliche western-revenge style of story exploring a lone 'hero' on a quest for vengeance. A character is necessary to be killed off for that kind of story to take place, and I would wager Cayde-6 is the most popular of the known franchise characters, so it makes sense for him to be the one that needs to kick the bucket to trigger the main theme of the story. On the other hand, every piece of advertisement and marketing for Forsaken clearly established his death and attempted to sell his death as a means to garner more attention and buyers. An extremely critical story element was handled in the most absurd and disgusting fashion by making it nearly impossible to be unaware of it going into the expansion. So it feels absolutely like it was used as a potential cash-grab as well.

3 AntwortenWell for the story to work, there had to be some reason for vengeance. And Fillion had scheduling conflicts so it got to be him. Was it done particularly well? Not especially. They had to suddenly backjam a giant pile of off-screen story for both Cayde and Uldren in that felt kind of inorganic. Nevermind the whole "Maybe you're a murderer" trackline while literally forcing your hand (and ignoring the dozens of sentient capable of reasoning aliens we killed on a standard basis.). Repercussion wise. Its also a little soft. Maybe if our new super had arrived post-storyline (or mid-storyline from a different source) that could be worked in, as us embracing a path outside of the Vanguard's rules. Thats kind of where it really falls flat. "Hero" characters who go renegade like that become labelled as loose cannon,s imprisoned, or let go until the next crisis is dire enough. Ours just wanders back in and takes up regular old day to day Vanguard life with barely a sentence from anyone about it.

3 AntwortenPre-planned way before Forsaken, audio files were leaked on the net, before Forsaken was even announced. Bungie had planned to kill off Cayde before Destiny 2 was launched. They already know what is going to happen in Destiny 3, let alone the next expansion after Forsaken.
-
I believe it was an attempt at a stronger, darker story, which, lets be honest, has never really been in-game before. Some people say it worked and some people still say the story is bad but at least bungie is trying.
-
1 AntwortenI wouldn’t say he saved the franchise. Bungie’s writing for him made him a likable character. But killing him off makes great motivation for playing through the story, and gives it more weight than cayde ever could alive. Also, nathan fillion didn’t even want to show up so it’s difficult to keep him around.
-
1 AntwortenI started back with destiny because of caydes death and the queen still alive.
-
1 AntwortenI thought it felt cheap and forced, like it only happened to ratchet up the tension. Killing a main character off, especially a fan favorite, is generally considered to be a bold move, but I dunno it just felt cheap to me. My opinion of course, not knocking anyone else’s.
-
14 AntwortenNot for just a cash grab caydes death meant a lot of things. It means that the one character that we had a connection with is dead which prompted revenge for even players who only played d2. This wouldn’t have worked with any other character. This also means that bungie is done milking caydes humor for cash which could make for better storytelling

This thread is an absolute cringefest, jesus.

7 AntwortenIt was because Nathan Fillion wanted out, so they wrote his character out. They didn't even let him finish the role, getting Nolan North to play Cayde in Forsaken. Whats ironic is I personally think North did a much better job than Fillion, I always found Cayde annoying until Forsaken. So they could have kept the character anyway. But if theres one thing Game of Thrones taught us, killing main characters can help boost a franchise.

1 AntwortenSmh yup just for the story which is barely about Uldren and now he’s gone
-
4 AntwortenEntry level plot which is a bit disappointing. I enjoyed the revenge story quite a bit, but by end game I quickly saw that it wasn't the real main story of Forsaken. The real story happens when you get to the dreaming city. The story of Riven and how he's cursed the dreaming city now and us trying to find a way to bring queen Mara back is the real story. Cayde's death in a way does feel like a cash grab though b/c it took a back seat as soon it's over.
