After all, AAA Companies are the ones who built the game from the ground up. Console companies like Xbox and Sony don't have any part in making them and therefore shouldn't get to decide whether the games can't enable crossplay or not. You can have an iPhone and text someone with an Android as long as you both have service so why can't an Xbox player play with a PS4 player if they both have the same game?

8 AntwortenIt would be a disaster for xbox players......everyone already knows that PS4 players are more highly skilled on the sticks.
-
5 AntwortenXbox said awhile back that they are fully capable and willing to let their xbox users play with playstation users. Sony is the only reason they are holding it back, now why sony chooses this, idk. But they can, it's their system.
-
No. Because they don't own the networks they are using for console games. Those are owned, operated and maintained by the console manufacturers.
-
IMO I don't really care if there is crossplay or not. Last post IGN had regarding Microsoft and Sony crossplay stated sony was willing to discuss possibility of crossplay but that was few months back.
-
1 AntwortenSeeing as cross play relies on thinngs like the xbox and playstation networks talking to one another, the game developer is the one who has the least amount of say in whether or not something is cross platform. Your example about phone companies is missing one crucial point, if phone companies suddenly decided that those who have a plan with one phone company couldnt talk to people on another they would have a huge variety of issues, such as customers not wanting to use those phone services at all due to the i convenience of it. There could also be legal issues since suddenly groups of people would be unable to communicate with one another. Its is the same reason that one internet provider is not permitted to stop you from connecting with someone who uses a different internet provider. In contrast console makers dont gain a whole lot from allowing cross play, in fact they tend to gain a whole lot more headaches. They get some publicity, and so they kind of look good for allowing it, but it is by no means a necessity. Companies like microsoft can minimize their headaches when it comes to cross play from PC to xbox becauae they have control over both networks, and they can gain a few extra sales typically on the PC side since they demand you purchase the game off of the microsoft store.
-
6 AntwortenThey already can. If a big name franchise were to announce they won't release on any platform that is against crossplay the people standing against crossplay would have a bad time.

Bearbeitet von Cozyman Cam: 3/14/2018 2:15:42 AMI believe both the game devs and the platform devs ought to be required to give cross platform play permission. The platform provider still reserves the right to control how applications function on their platform.

Because economy.

1 AntwortenWasn't there a game a while back that "accidentally" enabled cross-console multiplayer for a few hours between Playstation and Xbox? I think sony should just allow it and stop making up excuses
-
Bearbeitet von Ninja_Lazer: 3/13/2018 1:56:03 PMYou forget that the devs are using development kits and tools that were designed specifically for the console hardware. As well, they are the ones that host the live services. Their toys, their rules. That being said, Sony can grow up and let it happen. People aren't coming to them for online games.
-
Would be nice but unfortunatly no. The infrastructure of the networks is owned by the respective companies. The IOS/Android example does not hold up because the mobile phone network isn't owned by Apple or Google. I also think that the mobile network has some protection against that, if companies could do that something as simple as making a phonecall could get complicated real fast. Plus if you are on Android you still can't play mobile games with IOS AFAIK.

6 AntwortenIts sony that keeps saying no
-
It would be nice but "for the shareholders" Sony is anti gamer, so I don't see it happening. Sad state of gaming we're in when crossplay is being praised for being turned down by a garbage company like that.
-
I would love for this to happen. It would double the population of players on a lot of games.
-
19 AntwortenShould Sony cut the bs and allow crossplay with XBox? Yes
-
lol. No.
-
5 AntwortenNope, it's Sony's and Microsoft's networks. MS didn't want to do cross play during the 360 era, so it's not a huge surprise that Sony doesn't want to during the current console generation.
-
I would say yes because while I’m not a developer, I think it’s safe to assume that designing a port compatible with the software of more than one platform, and then having those platforms cross servers would probably be difficult. But that’s just how I see it
-
12 AntwortenLol, all the eliteists saying no like their opinion matters.
-
Expect they both using the networks of MS and Sony via Xbox live and PSN
-
Poor example. Microsoft operates its own network, and Sony does the same. Neither Apple nor Google do such a thing. Well, they have their own network for cloud services, mobile payments, and stuff but not for voice comms or SMS/MMS.
-
3 AntwortenTheir console, their rules. It would be hard to do anything if you play on PS4 and you find a cheater on Xbox One, Sony can't do anything and Xbox can't check your account or whatever.
-
Legally they are using Sony's or Microsoft's Hardware, which mean they have to abide by the Console Corporations rules. With the consoles in direct competition with each other, removing the barrier between the two systems would lead the consoles to be less competitive. In short
-
Considering every online feature runs off of Sony and/or Microsoft's network, I'm pretty sure they'll want a say in something. Sony are real adamant pricks about having no cross-play with Microsoft, and yet ironically they've had cross-play games with PC.
-
Games run on Sony and Microsoft servers/network? They probably want some say in the matter.
-
The problem is that the games run through their networks, otherwise companies would have just said screw you Microsoft/Sony and had done crossplay. It's not like Sony is against crossplay. They are going to have it with fortnight after all, it's just that PC, Mac and Mobile players will not be able to play with PS4 and Xbone players together in the same match.
