I wanted poppy yet metal so more people could enjoy it. I listen a lot more real metal than that. Additionally that was like 3 years ago, and I’m a lot older than most people who play this game haha.

In Flames have always been bad but that particular song is among their weeniest tho, you gotta admit :)

Really?. No love for in flames from back in the jester race and lunar strain subterranean era? Still among the founding fathers of the gothenborg melodic death metal scene. Granted everything after colony has been nothing short of complete and utter garbage, but they started out pretty good.

To me the Gothenburg sound will always be defined by the Slaughter of the Soul album. Melodic but still metal through and through. In flames never tickled my fancy, always over the line towards pop music in my ears. And I listen to a lot of pop, but some genres don’t mix well. Plus one of the in flames guys makes a craft beer called Frequency. C’mon guy!

They certainly miss the raw metal edge that at the gates brought and still brings, but i still enjoy listening to the old albums of the more melodic (and poppy if you will) in flames and dark tranquility. Sometimes a little over the top in the melodieous department, but quite enjoyable to me. I saw in flames once live and they were completely upstaged by soilwork, who opened for them. Don't think i've ever seen a concert before and since, where the main act was so much worse than the opening act.

Definitely don’t judge anyone for enjoying that. I love melodies and there’s always some guilty pleasure songs here and there. But my general feeling about in flames is that it’s metal for people who don’t listen to metal :)

Have to agree with you there hehe. might also be a bit of youth sentiment involved for me as well. Bands like this served as a nice introduction in to the more extreme forms of metal music in general. At least for me it did way back in the days. Just like cradle of filth did once when i was young. Now i'm almost ashamed to admit i listened to that crap. Once you delve deeper in to the genre and discover all the great bands that exist within the metal genre. These old albums i bought 20 years ago, don't exactly burn a hole in my cd player anymore. Oh and on topic. The fact that i enjoy a discussion about a metal band on a game forum, more than actually playing the game kind of tells you how bored i am with destiny 2 at the moment.
