Bungie had a bunch of missed opportunities with D2. First, I'd like to point out lost sectors. Well, I guess I can't really call them lost sectors since their marked on my map, it appears they're not really lost. Rather than having 5-25 "lost" sectors per map, depending on planet and size, each planet should have had 4-6 LOST sectors. These lost sectors should have been very well hidden, almost to the point where some you just have to happen upon. These lost sectors would grant, by RNG, the possibility of gear. Let me talk about the gear quick. Since each planet has an enemy race that is more prevalent, each planet would have a full set of gear for each class (Titan, Warlock, and Hunter). The pieces of the gear sets would only be obtainable from the chests at the end of the the lost sectors, based off RNG. Sometimes you'd get tokens, but there is a chance for the race specific loot. So this would give credibility as to why there's a swarm of enemies guarding a chest. I mean, let's be honest, I don't think the enemy would be guarding chests of tokens which have absolutely no worth to them. I mean, unless the fallen are gonna go hit up Devrim for a shiny piece of green gear. But, I doubt it. Now, since the amount of lost sectors have been reduced by about 50-70%, we can add some substance to these sectors. Give them story, why are they there? How did they form? Give them mechanics to get to the end of the lost sector. When they were first introduced, they were made to sound like they were gonna be some great feat. But, the truth was discovered in the first week of D2. Run past all the adds then pump the the yellow bar full of power ammo. What should have been epic adventures ended up being patrols inside caves with no story or reason for why we're raiding them. Now back to the design, like I said, give them mechanics, multiple areas of the sectors, maybe keys we need to discover to unlocks doors to even proceed further. Make the boss an actual boss, it doesn't need to be anything crazy but it should make the fight feel fun, not like a chore for a mediocre reward. And finally, each enemy race should have a race specific weapon which would be obtainable through a separate quest. This quest would be obtainable from these chests by way of RNG. By way of doing Lost Sectors this way, would have added a lot more replay-ability. Btw, I thought of this idea in about 10 minutes, your move Bungie.
P.S. Thought of this after typing everything. Each planet should have a planet specific shader which would also drop from the lost sector chests.
TL:DR
Lost sectors were a fail. Should have been like mini strikes. Should have enemy race specific gear sets for each class and one weapon per enemy race, obtainable by the chests in the lost sectors.
I have a lot more ideas for other things I think they could have implemented very well but they came out feeling rushed.
Next up, I will be writing my opinion on how the Flashpoints should have been set up.
Edit: Yes, I know proper writing format was thrown to the wolves here. I'm a full time college student and sometimes it nice to break away from the "this is how you have to do it" style. Think of yourself as my professor, you're looking at my brainstorming 😘

Agreed. I feel lost sectors are a missed opportunity. From the prerelease hype, I expected them to be harder to find (not an icon on my map) and definitely fuller, more challenging, and worthwhile. I don't think the planet specific loot would work in principle because weapons with power types to handle any enemy are literally handed to you everywhere, but using lost sectors to add to the planet's narrative would be cool. Just look at the post- raid area
where racks of emperor robots hang in wait.
A sly narrative bombshell.

Good idea but one problem: there would be a map of all the lost sectors after day one. So maybe add a rotation to them and make some inactive of inaccessible in certain weeks

My reply to this topic is LOST somewhere on this page! Can you find it???
-
Bump for longevity of post.

I agree with everything except they should be well hidden. Bc than everyone would have just looked them up on youtube. I do like the mini strike idea that wouldve been really cool

4 AntwortenThis is what I'm talking about. All you optimists go to great lengths to imagine things that you hear about and come to realize the reality of it. Lost Sectors were stated as dungeons with a boss in it. Nothing more. Don't get upset when your imagination gets the better of you.

6 AntwortenBearbeitet von Spartan-S4B9: 9/26/2017 2:31:04 PMHaving only played D1 when Taken King came out, I have to say that I feel Destiny 2 has gone too far with 'casual' mode. Lost Sectors? How are they lost when they are on the map marked & even in person with the symbols. Hidden chests? Just buy a map from Cayde. Need glimmer, get maxed out so fast that you don't have anything to use it on except more maps/mods. I don't feel any excitement with getting Exotics drops. Everyone has them. Xur sells them. Legendaries drop like candy & are easy to acquire, etc. I'm also disappointed with no random gun perks. I do agree that skill should matter in PvP first but I think some gear should be different & yes help you if you get some amazing piece. I think Bungie is going to have to do a 're-pass' where they add some things back in so people have something to look forward too. Everything is just handed to people now that I can tell people are getting bored already. I foresee a new level of gear that is a orange/red drop that will be above an Exotic. They have to add something like this in the game that is random dropped at such a super low % (raids, nightfall, word events). World of Warcraft did this late Burning Crusade and into WotLK and since where they devalued the 'color' which means that in WoW, purples use to mean something & meant you beat some tough challenges. Then they just started handing them out & then everyone had them. Destiny needs to realize they are doing this non-stop with D2 with Legendaries/Exotics. Devaluing them. Giving them to anyone who can shoot a world event or strike/die 10+ times & still come out with good gear even though they are a bad player. They will have to add some new challenges/make gear drop less & possibly up the light level some to deal with just how easy they've made the game so far. I've barely played and I'm at 20 already and with barely doing much are close to 270+ which seems crazy to me for not doing much strikes/nightfall. Bungie needs to address a bunch of things ASAP.

It's called lost sector cause you lost the will to do it for loot instead now only care about them for a mindless challenge to do to get exp for a bright engram to get a decent shader or weapon mod.

1 AntwortenI agree. I thought Lost Sectors were going to be more like Cauldrons in Horizon: Zero Dawn.
-
I even had empty chests in Lost Sectors yesterday...

13 AntwortenYou guys act like content while leveling doesn’t get outdated the second you hit level cap in any other MMO. AT WHAT POINT WAS THE BARRENS OR STRANGLETHORN VALE RELEVANT AFTER LEVELING In World of Warcraft.... Y’all are pathetic

Bump and support.

I dig it. I was totally looking forward to the lost sectors cuz it would be like the old days of looking for ghosts and finding cool shit along the way but sadly.. they’re kinda boring ..boring in the same way that archon’s forge became. Super locked chests that require the destruction of an ultra annnnd sweet a token ?

Emperor Hedonism Bot agrees with this idea. So long as there is great lore written on the walls about the great Emperor! Maybe the other races cowering in fear of him in cave paintings or cryptic warnings about my rather large chalice! ~ Emperor Hedonism Bot has spoken!

I wonder how lost sectors would work in a procedurally generated infinite forest.
-
What about the lost sector you have to crawl into then u get inside and there is these massive cabal in there, how did they get in, do they have a telaporter ?
-
I agree with everything you said...but in the future please spread your paragraphs out its a pain on the eyes
-
Paragraphs...lost opportunity. It's like words exploded in my eyes.

Not just with the lost sectors but the overworld planet maps in general there is so much possiblity for improvement. As mentioned before having something like lost sectors potentially drop a piece of loot specific to the type of enemy that served as the "boss" in the area and planet specific shaders. Something similar could be done with the public events as well. I also fee like they could add some elements to the general outdoor planet maps with more triggered or random spawn type events and possible strike boss or raid boss level enemies that could spawn just on the overworld that would also have their own unique purple drop. Not like the few minis boss named enemies we have currently but on the level of the ones that could appear on public events in D1 Currently on the overworld its mostly roaming small groups of enemies, random spawn high profile targets that drop a loot box for some glimmer and a token and if lucky you might get an engram sometimes, public events, enemy faction collisions (which atm just seem like a way to kill a lot of enemies in a short amount of time), roaming pikes or interceptors, and a few limited named mini bosses that drop a token when killed. With the tower factions return we have a new overworld thing with supply drops.

I completely agree, lost sectors were certainly hyped differently. When lost sectors were first unveiled, the way bungie described them, led me to think lost sectors would be a big challenge. Not even close and such a big disappointment. Btw, can anyone explain why the companion app has been completely watered done. It is nothing like it use to be, if anything the app should have continued to improve not return to the stone age.

Bearbeitet von Sliceef: 9/27/2017 12:29:34 AMLost sectors mean the sector is lost to the enemy. Not lost as in hard to find. But still they were pretty Garbo tbh.

Bearbeitet von Zeal_Is_Magic77: 9/26/2017 11:18:07 PMI remember how hyped that guy was talking about Lost Sectors on stage like it was the next big thing. Nope, just small caves with chests at the end of them, and usually the payout is underwhelming. "Yeah. Yeah. Lost Sectors. Yeah."

2 AntwortenOverall I'm very disappointed in the minimal way they use these beautiful worlds. It's better than D1 where the planets were 90% empty space. But I want so badly to adventure to a far corner than hardly ever gets visited and find a special mob spawn that had a chance of dropping something special

18 AntwortenI have to disagree by one point. Gamers. Even if you "hid" the lost sectors in ridiculous places and removed them from the map, people would have found them all inside a week and posted maps and youtube guides. Just like the ghosts/calcified fragments/siva clusters, and some of those were just absurd. Like up the wall at the iron temple.
-
I just wanted them to place some lore inside them

Lost sectors a fail? Not at all and it doesnt have to be so black and white. They are a cool idea with exploration in mind , plus they can always add to it. You guys act like everything is an end all be all.
