My point is more gamplay-wise and general feeling more than meta game balancing / OPness of the weapon XD. I clearly understand many point of the problematic that will append if such mechanic is implemented. ( That's why I'm not whinning about it ). But as said before, going through the two menu screen to change the element type of Hard Light is kinda bummer and tedious. (You dont need to be a game dev to understand that's not the best practice in term of gameplay <_<)
