There is a bit of a strange bug, I would like to bring attention to the attention of developers regarding Destiny 2 on laptops.
I would like to preface this with the specs of my laptop. I currently own an MSI GS63 VR. The specs are as follows: Intel i7-7700HQ; GTX 1060 (MaxQ, so it's a desktop grade) with 6GB of VRAM; and 16GB of RAM. The game is installed on an SSD. I'm attempting to play the game at 1080p with the Medium Preset of graphical options.
Running the game on fullscreen in the native laptop monitor is yielding strange problems. For one, it does not seem to recognize the actual resolution of the monitor. My laptops screen is 1080P, but full-screen mode never renders to that spec.
In fact, I cannot change the rendering resolution in fullscreen, the drop down is unavailable as seen here. The only way for me to change my resolution (seemingly?) is to go to any windowed mode and select the resolution and then return back to full-screen. However, it defaults to strange resolution numbers, like 1920 x 1001 as seen in the previous image.
Now for those who don't know, laptops run a bit differently than desktop PCs. The dedicated graphics card is primarily used for processing and rendering only, it passes off the drawn images to the integrated graphics card that draws the images on the monitor. Essentially, the dedicate GPU does the hardwork and the integrated GPU merely displays it. Now this generally works just fine with most games.
So my laptop display driver is the Intel HD Graphics 630 as seen here.
So I theorized that perhaps Destiny 2 was rendering only via the display drive, which would explain the performance issues and monitor spec recognition problems. I went to the Nvidia control panel and forced the Destiny 2 executable to only process on the dedicated Nvidia GPU, but to no luck. On full screen it would not go to 1080p or achieve frame rates higher than 50fps in game. However, when I switched the game over to windowed mode (any of them), it was suddenly running at 100fps from the 50fps previously. Perhaps windowed mode allowed the game to then process through my GPU?
To test the theory, I plugged in an external monitor via HDMI and set only my second monitor to be on (so basically my laptop screen was not running, and only my monitor was drawing). The external video port on my laptop is both driven and displayed by my dedicated graphics card as seen here.nd
And voila, it's running like butter. Full Screen mode recognizes 1080p as a render option. The game is running at 110-ish frames in normal gameplay and dips to the mid-90s in heavy combat.
So my conclusions:
1) Destiny 2 renders only via display driver when in fullscreen. This is not good for laptops that uses the integrated graphics as the display adapter. I tried another experiment where I set my GPU as the global setting for rendering within the Nvidia control panel, but to no luck in fullscreen.
2) Destiny 2 renders via graphics card when the display adapter is not required. Even in playing windowed mode, the frame rate is significantly lower than when playing on an external monitor.
I hope this gets fixed before the main release. I had such a nostalgia trip back to the days of Halo CE on PC and genuinely had fun with Destiny 2 and can't wait for more.

I am still having this issue, I want to run destiny 2 on my laptop, But It is only using the intel integrated gpu and I want it to use my AMD radeon Gpu , When I play on different games it seems to recognize that the AMD radeon gpu is significantly better than the integrated gpu and therefore uses the AMD radeon gpu. But not for Destiny 2. I am not sure if this is something i can fix or if i just have to wait for them to fix it? None of the above fixes have worked. Please Help!

I am having the same issue, GTX 680M with 64mb of VRAM.

Know it is several months past, But recently Ive noticed this has been happeneing when using my Laptop display in general. It acts like both my 960m and 6700hq integrated graphics are running in a sort of Not functioning explicit multi gpu combo that DX12 supports. Both GPUs run roughly around 50% up to 60% each. Before windowed mode worked and used the 960m well

I do not have this problem but I have some clan mates who do. I have been trying to assist them with the issue. Has/Can anyone try this and let me know if it does/doesn't work: - First, go to Device Manager and uninstall the Nvidia graphics driver. - Next is to open Programs and Features then uninstall anything related to Nvidia. - Once uninstalled, download and install the latest driver. - Here's the link: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx - Reboot the laptop once the latest driver has been installed and set Nvidia again as the default GPU.

Same issue, but for me i can play in windows. But windows-no-border and fullscreen don't work... It's strange, the game work better in beta. xD

2 AntwortenI also had the same problem, except the game ran smothly on luanch day. But then 2 days later it just starts showing in low res and blurry graphics. Bungie PLEASE fix it for us laptop users.

EPIC FAIL! and a $100 unusable game 10-26-2017. No warrlock, or getting to the things on the right third of the screen. You don't by a new car you can't drive. WTF

Has anyone fixed this yet?? i'm having this problem with my Alienware 17 R4

Did you do something special to get your external display to use your nvida as display adapter and GPU? When I plug in HDMI and set it to display only monitor 2, my shitty Intel is still the display adapter instead of my GTX 970m. Is it a difference in hardware that means external displays use different display adapters or is there something else I can change?

Hey there saw your post and was looking for some help. im using a laptop i5 7200u 8gb of ram and the graphics is Intel HD 620, i know its below specs but am using it till i save for a proper gaming pc desktop. The card says it have 1gb of vram but when im playing it says in only has 128mb. Im playing on low settings and was wondering if i can improve it at all? i am using a monitor which is why im wondering how to get best performance with what i have? Thanks

1 AntwortenAre you having issues with V-sync on your laptop at all? For example I am getting lower performance with V-Sync off in general then with it on. If I run High settings with V-sync at 60 fps it stays at 60 fps with very few dips to 30 fps and the dips last a split second. Then with V-sync off my fps will fluctuate from 40 fps to about 70 fps, but stay below 60 fps the majority of the time. This isn't consistent with itself and I am wondering if other laptop users are experiencing the same thing. My Laptop Specs Dell Inspirion 15 7657 i5-7300 HQ @ 2.5 gHz (w/ Intel Turbo Boost I average about 3.2 gHz) 8 GB RAM Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 4 GB vRAM

1 AntwortenBearbeitet von DaJuan Hoonoks: 8/31/2017 12:54:30 AMWhat if you have an integrated gpu? I keep getting a super low frame rate. I have an intel integrated hd graphics family adapter. I'm will this work at all, all the other specs meet the requirements but im a pc gaming novice so i really have no clue about graphics cards. Turned off Vsync and Went to borderless windows and it was way better but still low frame rates.

4 AntwortenBearbeitet von Orbital Drop Shock Trooper: 8/31/2017 12:04:14 AMMight be a driver problem because I'm playing the D2 Beta on a alienware laptop with a i7 also set to Intel HD use by default and on the Nvidia control panel I set it to use my NV GPU on Destiny 2 and it works great. Just click on 'add' and select the program with the Destiny fidget spinner icon. The list compiled is automatically from previous programs being ran so it can help differ from the confusion of using the GPU on a game launcher as opposed to the actual game.exe for some games.

4 AntwortenI'm having the same issue. I have a dell inspiron with i7-7700hq, gtx 1050ti and 16gb of ram. Full screen is unplayable for me, as it has a very low frame rate, and it won't let me change resolutions properly. Windowed goes beyond the edge of the screen, and full screen windowed has a decent framerate, but the resolution looks dodgy. Monitor looks fine, but I want it to work on my laptop too, if ever I'm out or if my monitor has issues.

Bearbeitet von Lorang1 NOR: 8/30/2017 10:47:50 PMThe scenario you describe has been reported many times. Doesnt seem to mateer if it's laptop or desktop The reports I've seen has all (as I recall) been running Nvidia GPU's Edit: As I don't play D2 on PC, I didn't really read the reports in great detail, but I was curious about the strange behaviour, so Read a few of them. Some was mentioning driver versions, others assumed it had to do with the restrictions they made to avoid code infusion by apps. I would put my money on this being properly fixed before release. This is the main reason we Beta test it for them... Basically slavery; Do their job, but they cash the paycheck ;)

1 AntwortenI'm having the exact same problem here. It only occurs to Destiny 2, I can play smoothly Battlefield 1 on High/Ultra at 1080p 60fps. My specs are: Dell i15-7567-A20P i7 7700HQ Intel HD 630 Graphics GTX 1050 Ti GPU 8GB RAM DDR 4 Please, solve it soon!

2 AntwortenI have a i7 with 1060 also. Can't get it past 30 fps. What can I do?

2 AntwortenBeen having the same issue with my RoG laptop. It has a gtx970m but it says I only have 128m of VRAM. This may push me to play on Playstation.
