I've got limited space here, so rather than dissect my entire experience with the beta, beating the dead horse on a NUMBER of known issues that I believe have been fully fleshed out, I'm going to just to discuss the things that I think are most important to hammer home:
First, while I believe the beta is quite possibly the worst thing I have ever seen from modern gaming (the animations from Mass Effect: Andromeda were at least amusing before they were fixed), I do have a couple of positive comments. Bungie's environmental design team, once again, hit it out of the park! They are quite literally the ONLY thing I consider about this company to be AAA+ quality. No matter whether it was the story mission or the strike, the world environments were amazing. And the strike itself, if you removed all of the spongy enemies and the spongie bosses, wasn't half bad. A little long for my taste, but it had its fun moments.
Now, the bad:
1. The weapons - globally, they felt terrible and REALLY weak. It took multiple shots to take down even average red-bar ads. The perks are watered down and unless it was a perk that effected your magazine size or DRASTICALLY effected shot rate, you didn't notice a big difference in performance. Even power weapon performance was comical. I shot Banner the Unbent about 14 times with my sniper, most of the shots being headshots, and it didn't move his health bar below half! Grenade launchers did little to no damage to the boss and were highly inaccurate. Fusion rifles didn't wow me, and shotgun wasn't even playable. I finally got my hands on a RL, but at that point, the beta had already shattered my resolve to try to go back into any activity to test it out.
2. The new loadout: Two primary weapon system SUCKS far more than even I could have imagined. I wasn't a fan of the system when they announced it at the reveal, and have railed on and on about it since that time, and often times I was criticized for judging something I hadn't tried yet. Well I have, and its even worse than I could have imagined. The new system is effectively a WORSE newb combo from Halo - use energy weapon to crack shields, switch to kinetic to finish him off. Except the newb combo was easy and quick to execute and was mostly an insta-kill, whereas in Destiny, you have to plink at the shielded enemy with multiple shots, then switch to your kinetic to whittle away at them some more. Even as a huge Halo fan, I gotta say - this is a poorly executed attempt at replicating that system.
3. Ammo economy: Was terrible. I may have seen more power weapon ammo than most people on here report, but it wasn't MUCH more. Often times, I'd never see a brick drop. And several times I ran out of either energy/kinetic, and was in serious danger to run out of ammo completely.
4. Ability/Super recharge: Again, slow. Bungie's already aware of this, but I doubt a good fix is possible. Armor perks reducing recharge time can only go so far because, due to the unified sandbox, it ALL has to be balanced for PVP - and we now see that PVP will be Bungie's ONLY priority.
5. New supers: They weren't even worth having IMO. They were better used to clear minions than they were to try to do DPS, and you got it so rarely that you might as well have been playing Battlefield 1. Having multiple abilities mapped to the same button is a bad idea in what can often be an action packed shooter. Often I did not use the ability I wanted to, and also wasted my party ability by sliding into cover and then unintentionally deploying it at the end of my slide.
6. Movement: does not feel smooth or natural. Feels very awkward, and ALL characters walk/run really slow. The jumps don't feel natural and often times, you feel like you are fighting your own character to get him to do what you want him to do. If your counting on exploration keeping people intrigued, this system is simply going to hinder their experience. I can't even get close to making jumps I KNOW I could make easily in D1.
7. Enemy health/armor: They're all bullet sponges, even the red-bar ads! Majors have become mini-bosses, and it is so painful to just chip away at the boss slowly with a primary/energy weapon.
Some suggestions and comments:
It is clear to me that Destiny 2 was entirely remade for PVP, and mainly to try to get around having to fully separate PVE from PVP. And it's failed miserably. Bungie, do you realize that there are a lot o shooters out there that feature generic/standardized combat with no super powers and no incredible, high-tech weaponry? Battlefield, CoD, Halo, Gears, etc. If we wanted that kind of play, we would have been playing THOSE games. Instead, we wanted all the power weapons we had, we wanted the space magic in droves! That is the magic that made Destiny so fun and addicting in the first place.
Now I'm aware that your under pressure from Sweaty-McDickface to start remove all those things from the game to make the game "more balanced and competitive" but you have effectively removed all of those things from a game PREDICATED on awesome weaponry and space magic. What do you think is going to keep players coming back? Pretty environments only take you so far.
You can have space magic in PVE and PVP for those who love it and a bland PVP experience for Sweaty-McDickface if you want. All you need to do is make ONE, maybe TWO PVP modes where you MUST use standardized gear, trickle is on permanently, and you have "MLG" versions of those maps so that heavy and special ammo doesn't spawn. THERE! Those who want a boring, primary-based PVP experience can have it. Everyone else can enjoy their space magic and power weapons and everyone's happy. NO remake of the entire game necessary.
You can call the new mode "Hardcore" mode and the weapon/armor pool for that/those modes can be balanced separately from everything else so what players like TripleWreck want will not have any impact on what the rest of the community wants.
Secondly, even with a "hardcore" mode, it is clear you need to separate PVE from PVP. We came to this game for the PVE, not the PVP. I ditched Halo 4 to play Destiny 1 after all! So stop treating us like second or third-priority gamers. We pay the same money that PVP players do, and arguably, we bring in more revenue. PVE players are more likely to recruit new players to this game because PVE content is easier to teach/learn, so it is more accessible to new players. Sweaty-McDickface isn't going to recruit new players to this game - it will take a LONG time for new players to become competent players and assets in PVP.
Finally, streamlining skills for the sake of PVP just doesn't work in this game. The advantage of keeping the old style perk tree would be to simply the control scheme, as the Captain America Shield for the sentinal could replace an under-utilized option, like the standard Ward of Dawn you first unlock (no armor/blessings of light). IMO, the "team ability" is just awkward and wasn't all that useful outside the titan's cover deployment - which was more effective in PVP than in PVE.
I have so much more to say regarding this topic, but only so much space here, so I'll end with this: Bungie just needs to go back to the D1 system for both Skills and loadouts and separate PVE from PVP. Forget the idiots who say "but then its not a new game!" But even the Halo series has enough commonality between the games to feel familiar and at home, whether you pick up Halo CE or you pick up Halo 5. D2 isn't even the same game - its clearly just your average generic shooter with aliens.

Well said. I agree.

Spot on....hopefully Bungie read their own forums.

3 AntwortenI don't think there's enough content to conclude D2 is shit. The story mission was great; the strike was better; and PVP balanced. The only thing off is essentially the battle mechanics. But here's the thing, of all functions...battle mechanics is the attribute they can edit the most post-launch. They can change weapon stability values, they can change the aim-assist values, they can give you faster recharge, they can give you different perks. What they can't do is change story campaign, change the strikes (ones already made). From what I've seen of the beta, PVE has improved. Battle mechanics might not be there yet...but it probably won't be any worst than vanilla D1. I think most people are just used to being light 400 killing level 38 or lower mobs. Vanilla destiny wasn't easy. Your blue sniper didn't wreck anything. Anyone remember the spider tank? Remember how long it used to take to kill it? Remember Atheon when you're level 26/27/28? Who knows what difficulty is set for the beta :/ Additionally, Halo 5 felt nothing like Halo 4 or CE. Everything you said that made Destiny Beta bad can be said about Halo 5. I wouldn't say a bad thing but it was just completely different. Aim assist was different, weapons fired faster; movement changed a bunch. And yes, like you, I complained...on the Halo forum. So did everybody and their mother apparently, hence they released functions that let you change deadzones and other sensitivities lol. It was still fun though.

3 AntwortenBearbeitet von blade329: 7/24/2017 4:08:27 PMPretty much spot on!! I too was totally underwhelmed by this beta. I asked some PvP guys why they liked it. The first thing they always say is, "It's great, it's more about gun skill now.". That's it? That was the big improvement? LOL. Is making guns weaker and extending ability recharge rates that development intensive that it needed a whole new version? Am I crazy or is this a totally lazy PvP offering? Nobody is praising the maps, movement, weapons, gear or anything of substance in PvP. Heck, even Call of Duty did a better job of rehashing and recycling the same stuff.

11 AntwortenMy take on the Beta is a little different. I personally think that a lot of people over think things in this Beta release. We were given a chance to play 4 total things in this Beta, that is it just 4 things. Some people were playing it for hours and hours for some reason or another. I played it on all three characters too and multiple times through each game mode, but I played the Beta for what the Beta offered and I didn't go and look for things to complain about. Just remember people that this game is built for the millions of players that want to play the game and not the hardcore elite minded players that seem to be just throwing hate at Bungie about this Beta game release because it doesn't fit with their standards of a game that they want. Sorry that they have taken away your comfort one hit kill weapons in the game with large amounts of ammo or regeneration ammo to sit back and pad your K/D, or your single jump across the map jumps with exotic armor booster perks that allows you to traverse that map before the opposite team can even leave the room they started in. In conclusion, it is a video game that you have a choice to either play or not to play.

7 AntwortenI don't understand why immunity frames are a thing on bosses. I watched someone use their Dawnblade right after the first drop on the strike and all his hits were immune because i wasn't doing any damage with my primary either. Just like when Valus comes walking out in D1, it feels like he is immune forever until you can start putting in damage on him. I didn't feel all that comfortable pecking away with primaries and the bosses have enough health, i don't think it is overly necessary for them to take no damage at times.

1 AntwortenPretty much all of your complaints will be rectified with the changes Bungie has already acknowledged in the last "This week at Bungie." Except for the new weapon system. I'd agree with this item if Bungie wasn't making the changes they've already stated have been made and/or the game was like D1. Having more frequent and predictable power ammo drops and weapon damage buffs, especially to PVE non player combatants will make the new weapon system just as fun and the enemies a lot less spongy. You have to think that Bungie will have this weapon system in mind when creating the boss encounter mechanics. Your statements in the suggestions section is spot on, though. The main reason I enjoy Destiny's PVP is because it's like super hero PVP. Granted, I think they could tune it back a little from D1's set up. Ability spamming isn't fun either. But, separating PVE and PVP is something that has to happen. And creating different PVP modes will easily settle all the issues with PVP and make everyone happy.

1 AntwortenThe only thing I'll say about this is that every Super at the launch of vanilla Destiny was for trash mobs and majors and not for DPS. It wasn't until tTK that we had Supers for DPS (Shadowshot, Stormtrance, Hammer of Sol). Not sure what you were expecting out of the beta. The issue with multiple abilities mapped to the same buttons is more about thumb skill. I have yet to accidentally fire an ability or super. If you are having those issues it means you were holding those buttons too long in Destiny and need to adjust your thumb skill for Destiny 2.

11 AntwortenNice write-up.
Having multiple abilities mapped to the same button is a bad idea
Glad to see that I'm not the only who sees this as being a bad design choice. Can't tell you how frustrating it was running the Sentinel going to active the shield only to have a Ward of Dawn drop.

Bearbeitet von AngelusDomini: 7/24/2017 4:24:48 PMYour critique is rather conspicuously embellished, and as such can't be taken seriously. I didn't seem to have these problems when I played the Beta that a lot of people are describing here and elsewhere. I was getting my super two or three times during Homecoming (I was even switching between them during the same run to try out different things). I also had ample heavy ammo, provided I used it on the mobs that mattered, as opposed to random trash. I certainly wasn't swimming in heavy drops, but I got enough for my needs. (Emphasis on need as opposed to want.) Enemies, even shielded ones, died rather quickly purely from primary weapon fire. I also love the new weapon load out system. It provides more versatility and utility while being far less limiting than the original system. I loved being able to switch between two different weapons of the same type without having worry about ammo rationing. It was great. About the only thing on which I would agree is that movement, particularly strafing, did feel a tad slow. But I can't say if that's actually the case, or just my perception as I haven't played D1 in some time. Furthermore, I see loads of criticism that D2 is merely the same as D1. I for one don't see the problem with that either. Sure, I'd have liked some new, cooler looking enemies (I think the Cabal are kind of goofy looking and rather boring antagonists). But the reason I quit D1 was the sheer lack of content. WoW Legion has been out for about a year, and has 12 dungeons and 5 raids out, with more on the way. After a year of playing Destiny, there were 4 dungeons and 1 raid (which I grinded to death). There just wasn't anything meaningful to do anymore. So even if D2 is just a massive DLC for D1 with better graphics, I'd be okay with that, because at least that's more content.

Bearbeitet von RavenousLD3341: 7/24/2017 6:00:43 PMThe mapping multiple things to the same buttons thing was kinda annoying. When running titan there was a few too many times when I wanted my shield, and accidentally deployed my bubble.
-
Honestly, I would be much happier with D2 and have little to complain about if they got rid of the double primaries. I'm going to get the base game, but depending on how it plays that will determine if I bother with the DLCs. That is currently my biggest gripe with the game. I'm not happy about the team shoot mentality of crucible as that's lame as hell to me, but I'm certain I could adjust. Just change the weapon systems back (though I know they won't)

1 AntwortenThere is a comment on this forum i recently read, and guardian said "i will pay a full game price for a Destiny DLC but not for Destiny 2." I am thinking the same. Let's imagine. If they revert back to Y1 sandbox, add 3 new planets, add new patrol areas, add new patrol events, add new story, missions, strikes and raids, it will be much much better than Destiny 2 with lots of contents, guns and fun. My only hope is, people realize this is just another half-made game and cancel their pre-orders. Sadly this is the only way to make things right. Bungie is delusional with e-sports. Without dedicated servers/60fps/100+ tick rates this game can not become an e-sport. We all know this will not gonna happen.
-
For PvP why don't they just pick two generic primaries and have everyone start out with that and then just put more powerful/special weapons scattered throughout maps for people to go for. They could even put vehicles like the bikes with guns on them on the maps that spawn 2/3 times over the course of a match.

How sad is it that the beta was so awful that I didn't have even a moment of actual fun playing it. I would say the best part about it was exploring in the early part of the strike and the farm. Other than that, I actually couldn't wait for it to be over. I can't speak for everyone but I will say that all the friends I played with this weekend had the same exact THIS SUCKS opinion. The guns were frigging awful, I might as well have been throwing frozen peas at the enemies and the abilities charge/recharge was beyond abysmal; why even have abilities if can't use them? I recall Bungie saying the bosses would no longer be bullet sponges... and yet here we have even bigger sponges and now even the little ads are sponges too.... seriously WTF? As if all that weren't bad enough, my characters felt like they were trying to walk around with cement blocks strapped to their feet. It was utterly ridiculous. As a die hard Destiny fan, I sincerely hope they read the feedback and make some serious adjustments to the game... otherwise they've lost me.

I agree with your assessment.

RL is pretty good damage but when you get heavy ammo it only gives you one rocket.

8 AntwortenSo much this. I will say that Bungie does get something else right though, and that is the music. Both their art and music team have always delivered for me

3 AntwortenI dont understand why they dont just leave the weapon system the same as D1 and limit special ammo the same way they limit heavy ammo in PVP.

4 AntwortenWhat an incredible overreaction, it really doesn't feel that different from the first game in PVE and an increase in heavy drops should freshen up gameplay enough with maybe a buff to super trickle rate. Otherwise the game is great, I've played from day 1 of D1 till now and obviously we're gonna get a load of outsiders who played like a month or two when D1 launched or along the way but coming in expecting it to be specically altered to what your vision of what the game should be is unreasonable and unrealistic. If you had fun as I have had for 3 years, I am sure you are in for D2. If the game is 'ruined' because of grenade cooldowns and supers, that I feel is just an overreaction and you trying to force bungie to change the game to suit your playstyle rather than you adapting to the game. We had 3 years of constant grenade and super spam, time for some actual gunskill. It is a shooter afterall.
